Bookies embrace the start of the NFL season
William Hill are looking forward to the start of the NFL season this year and hope that the increased interest carries over.
"Last year we took just over £5 million over every market and despite the uncertainty surrounding the start of the season, we are looking at up to a 20% increase once again this season," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
The season kicks off on Thursday as last season's Super Bowl winners, the Green Bay Packers, take on the winners of Super Bowl XLIV, New Orleans at Lambeau Field. The Packers are 5/11 to start the season with a win, while the Saints are 9/5. The two sides are 7/1 and 16/1 respectively to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy this season.
The New England Patriots start the season as the 5/1 favourites, while Philadelphia Eagles are 8/1. Hills offer 20/1 that Super Bowl XLVI is the exact same line up as XLV with Green Bay facing Pittsburgh, although the most likely final looks like it will be New England vs Green Bay at 10/1.
Saints slinger Drew Brees is the 5/1 favourite to accumulate the most regular season passing yards followed closely by Chargers QB Philip Rivers at 6/1. At the top of the betting for the most regular season rushing yards there is a three way tie with Arian Foster, Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson all offered at 5/1.
"In accordance with the interest being shown year on year for in NFL betting, we are offering more markets than ever and have seen plenty of money for Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers to get the most passing yards as well as a six figure sum already staked on the Super Bowl market," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly.
