A legend returns to test underdog Khan
There are some truly sensational boxing matches already lined up for this year and there will surely be more to follow.
With the Hatton v Pacquiao fight unfortunately dead in the water we can now look forward to Amir Khan taking on boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera on 14 March.
This is one of the most eagerly anticipated matches in years and odds of 8/11 say Barrera can return and win with Khan at even money.
See below what our boxing expert Sam Foulkes has to say about his truly fascinating fight.
"The 2009 calendar is already shaping up nicely, last week I was truly gob smacked to hear the news that
Amir Khan had signed to fight Marco Antonio Barrera!
All credit to Frank Warren, what a tremendous piece of matchmaking, my immediate thoughts on this one were that Barrera would knockout Kahn.
I looked into this match more closely, I caught the tape of Barrera's last match in China and read about his new five year contract with Don King.
I read Amir's trainer Freddie Roach's thoughts that Barrera was shot and considered the factor that the patriotic British punters would put money on Khan almost regardless of what price I put out.
All things considered, I stuck out odds of 1/2 Barrera v 6/4 Khan, we were knocked over by bets on Khan at this price, five figures worth in just a few hours.
It turned out that the industry are pretty split on the outcome of this one, in fact all of the smaller firms had Khan as favourite, just William Hill going on the side of the Mexican.
The bookies aren't always right of course and in this case some of us are wrong for sure, we'll find out on March 14th anyway, I cannot wait for this one."
There will be more to come from Sam as the fight draws nearer and won't miss an ear being chewed or a punch being thrown with William Hill.
