Damaged Aussies are dangerous

Fifty runs off five overs from South Africa's tailenders Albie Morkel and Johan Botha gave the Proteas a thrilling 1st one day international victory over Ricky Ponting's Australia at the MCG.

The target set at 272 by the home team was chased down by South African captain Botha and Albie Morkel as they overcame Australia's pace attack of Nathen Bracken and Ben Hilfenhous with three balls to spare.

With this, the Proteas furthered their perfect ODI record at Melbourne with a sixth win from six MCG appearances.

However... a wounded Australia are a dangerous Australia and for that reason should be backed for the 2nd of the series at 4/9, as they're sure to come out fighting. This would appear more tempting than the 13/8 about South Africa.

Michael Clarke won't play a part in any of the remaining matches due to an injured thumb and will be replaced by "big hitting amateur" David Warner who will look at this as an opportunity to highlight his international ability and furthermore, cement a possible position in the team.

In the betting for the top batsman markets, newbie Warner can be found at 9/2 to achieve the highest figures, however Ponting and Hussey are both found higher up the prices at 7/2 and 4/1 respectively for the Aussies. There may, however be some value in our match bets where Shaun Marsh who scored 79 in the first ODI can be backed to beat team mate Mike Hussey who only managed to gain six runs, 5/6 each of two.

South African headliner Duminy is favourite in the betting at 7/2 to reach the top South African score, only slightly ahead of Kallis (4/1) and Amla (9/2). Albie Morkel can be backed at 5/1 for top bowler.
