Flintoff tips England 1st Test - KP 10/1 duck, Cook 10/3 top bat

William Hill ambassador Freddie Flintoff has tipped England to kick off the 2013/14 Ashes with victory over "nervous" Australia in Brisbane.

The tourists begin their defence of a trophy they have held since 2007 at the Gabba - and are 2/1 with William Hill for a first Test victory.

Flintoff said: "The Aussies are going to be up for it, but I think that will work against them ... they've just been beaten 3-0, they're going to be nervous.

"England will win the first Test - it is going to be hard fought, but I think in the last session on the last day England will win."

The hosts are slight favourites to win the opener at a ground seen as a fortress in Aussie cricket. William Hill have them 7/4 to take a 1-0 lead.

Elsewhere Aussie hate figure Kevin Pietersen - in hot water with Brisbane's media this week after calling the city ‘boring' - is 10/1 to start his Ashes with a duck ... but we have him at 5/1 to hit a century in his first innings.

Captain Alastair Cook is our favourite to be best English batsman after the first innings at 10/3 - and Flintoff agrees.

He added: "I'm expecting the skipper to score big runs. I'm going to put my neck on the line here; he'll get 100, it's just whether he gets 200 - he is going to score BIG!"
