The Ashes - 2nd Test Day Four - Betting updates and blog

An exciting day in prospect as England look to force a victory in Adelaide. They have decided to bat on and the sun is shining. Quick runs then a declaration is the order of the day.

23:30 KP hits a boundary in the first over as England bat on. I think they'll bat an hour maximum. Australia 150/1 Draw Evens Away 8/11

23:45 KP GONE!! 568/5 Pietersen caught behind off Xavier Doherty. Plenty of spin there for Doherty and Swann will be itching to bowl on this pitch as soon as possible. Swann now 5/6 to be top wicket taker. Matt Prior the new man in, he'll be looking for quick runs. No change in the match prices.

Bell shows his intentions with a big six, he moves onto 49.

23:55 Bell reaches his fifty, all England's batsman in fine form with the exception of Paul Collingwood, it's hard to imagine losing a match in the series at the moment - SERIES BETTING: Australia 3/1 Draw 5/2 England 8/11

Katich doesn't look at all fit, limping about in the field, will that effect his batting?

00:05 600 up for England, it's easy forget when worrying about declaration and the match situation just what a great batting effort this is, 600 in Australia for the loss of just five wickets after bowling Australia out for 245. It would be a travesty if the weather saves Australia. It will need a captain's innings from Ponting if it doesn't, he's 3/1 to top score.

England continuing to hit boundaries, declaration could be imminent....

00:10 There is the declaration after 40 minutes of play. England have a lead of 375 after declaring on 620/5. Can Swann and co. bowl England to victory? Australia 150/1 Draw 11/10 England 4/6

I think England will win this today. Let's hope so!

00:20 Lancashire's finest Jimmy Anderson opens the bowling. Katich won't be going for any quick singles today I'm sure. He's 4/5 to be first man out, could be a good bet.

00:40 Nothing for the quick bowlers yet, time to get Swann on? Australia 66/1 Draw 10/11 England 10/11

00:55 Australia move on to 35/0 and you can now get Evens on England which I think is a great bet, still lots of time left in the game and a wicket or two before lunch will see them heavily odds-on again. Katich mistimes a pull shot up into the air but gets away with it, he then slices another one for four. A feel a wicket coming.....

01:00 Swann is on! How well he bowls could well determine whether England win. He's 8/11 to be top wicket taker. Broad bowling from the other end is 5/1. Australia 66/1 Draw 8/11 England Evens

01:30 Swann getting turn and bounce and the runs drying up for Australia, still no wicket though. Australia 56/0. Steven Finn comes on to bowl, he's 6/1 to be the top wicket taker. England now 11/10 to win.

01:50 England keeping it tight but desperately need a breakthrough. There's ten minutes till lunch, Swann continuing to bowl well. Both batsman into the thirties, Watson 7/4 to top score, Katich 15/8 Australia 100/1 Draw 4/7 England 13/10

LUNCH Australia survive the session without loss, still all to play for, England have a lead of over 300 and the pitch is turning, I still fancy England to win this, they're currently 11/8.

02:40 We're back after lunch and Katich hobbles his way to the wicket, Swann opens the bowling. Early wicket please!

02:55 HERE HE IS!! Swann gets Katich caught behind and that's the breakthrough, loads of time left in the game and if it doesn't rain England will be confident of victory. Ponting comes in on a king pair.Key session this.

Australia 100/1 Draw 8/13 England 6/5

03:00 Three maidens and a wicket as England build the pressure on Australia. Ponting still on 0, he's 17/20 to be out for 41 or less, looks a bet the way Swann is bowling.

03:20 PONTING GONE!!! That's the big one, Swann gets Ricky Ponting to edge one behind and Australia now on 98/2. It brings Michael Clarke to the crease and he's totally out of form. Swann is bowling brilliantly and England in charge. Australia 100/1 Draw Evens England 8/11

You can get 4/6 on Michael Clarke NOT score a fifty. I would recommend that one. 2nd innings runs set at 340.5 for Australia (17/20 for over or under), that would give England a victory unless it was the weather that curtailed the innings.

DRINKS A good hour for England with two wickets, one or two more is needed before tea to put them in control of the match. Still some concerns over possible rain later today and tomorrow meaning it's hard to judge the match but if the rain stays away England should win. Australia 100/1 Draw 10/11 England 10/11

WICKET!!! Steven Finn gets Watson out caught behind, Strauss taking the catch, just what England needed and Watson again fails to convert a fifty into a big score. Great stuff this and a couple now and you'd expect England to wrap this one up today. Am I being too optimistic? Time will tell. Hussey comes to the wicket, need to get him early on. England now 8/13 Draw 6/5

England need to get Hussey before he starts batting like god again. Rain building to the north of Adelaide, apparantley that's where it came from yesterday. Drama indeed. It's 10/11 Hussey is next man out, he's 7/4 to top score.

TEA Australia 200/1 Draw 19/20 England 4/5 A good session for England and Australia are 160/3 still trailing by over 200 runs. Hussey and Clarke batting well but they can never be too comfortable with Swann getting good spin. Talk of thunderstorms on the way but it's clear for now. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Hussey is 8/11 to score a fifty. Clarke, currently on 36 is Evens to top score.

05:00 Back after tea and it's getting a little darker in Adelaide, that's effected the prices draw now slight favourite at 4/5, England 19/20.

05:20 England not looking too threatening since tea and Clarke moves on to 41, he's 1/6 to get a half-century, 7/2 not to.

Anderson getting a little swing though which will enourage England, looks like rain is on it's way though, crying shame for England fans and backers. Good if you backed the draw though, it's 1/2 now, England 6/4.

The players are off after the promised rain and bad light appears. There's a bit of wind so hopefully that will blow the clouds away but the forecast for the rest of the day and tomorrow isn't good.

05:55 RAIN STOPPING :) Possibility of more play today yet, fingers crossed. Australia 200/1 Draw 8/15 England 11/8

06:00 COVERS COMING OFF!! Draw 8/13 England 6/5

Play will resume in 20 minutes at 06:25 and can carry on until 8am if the light holds, one hour and 35 minutes of possible play.

06:25 We're back, Anderson to Clarke. Let's hope the weather holds for an hour at least.

06:35 Clarke gets to 50 but on the bright side for England fans the weather looks good for the rest of the day. Australia 200/1 Draw 8/13 England 6/5

06:50 England claim for caught behind off Clarke and it's given out but overturned on review as he didn't hit it. You could have got 9/4 on the original decision being reversed. The next over Hussey edges one past the slips. England looking threatening at the moment and are 11/8 to win.

07:20 England rattling through the overs now with Swann taking up one end, the pitch is breaking up but they've not had any luck at the moment. Just four overs remain. Interestingly, the new ball will become available first thing tomorrow morning which will give the visitors renewed hope. It will be all about the weather though it seems, if it stays dry England will be confident of forcing the win. Australia 200/1 Draw 4/7 England 13/10

KP on to bowl as the day draws to a close.....

MASSIVE BOOST FOR ENGLAND! KP takes a wicket with the last ball of the day, Michael Clarke hits one to the fielder and it's caught, he appears to walk off but the umpire doesn't raise his finger. England refer it and it hit the middle of the bat, that's out! Four wickets down with one day to play. Should be a cracking final day, weather permitting. Australia 200/1 Draw 4/5 England 19/20

That's it for the day, England will have the new ball tomorrow. We'll back tonight, it's another early start at 11.30pm.
