The Ashes Day Three - Betting updates and blog

Day three is underway and England will be hoping for quick wickets with the new ball to get back into the game.

You can check back here for updates of the match situation, the odds and the best in-running bets available. Let's hope Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad can get rid of Hussey and the tail cheaply.

23:30 We're underway thirty minutes early to make up for lost time and England have the new ball. They need to get rid of Hussey before he bats them out of the game, he's 2/7 to get the first century of the series. Australia 1/2 Draw 11/2 England 13/5

23:43 Hussey is rapped on the pad by Jimmy Anderson and umpire Aleem Dar raises his finger for LBW. It's referred though and the ball pitched just outside leg stump, Not out. Massive moment in the match. The Aussies have had the better of the referrals thus far. If you fancy them to survive the next referral it's 9/4.

23:55 Anderson bowling brilliantly and he has two more LBW appeals against Hussey turned down. The first one is not out but the second was hitting middle stump, half way up. England playing well without getting their rewards. If you fancy that to change and Anderson to dismiss Hussey soon it's 9/4 he fails to get to his ton.

00:20 England bowling well but not finding the edges. Australia 1/2 Draw 9/2 England 3/1 The drinks are on and whilst there have been no wickets in the first hour the good news is the Australians haven't managed many runs. Anderson the pick of the bowlers again, he is tied on 2 wickets with Finn, Anderson is 11/8 to get the most in this innings, whilst Finn is 2/1.

00:45 Still no wicket for England despite putting up a good performance. Australia 2/5 Draw 4/1 England 4/1 We currently have Australia first innings runs at 382.5 (17/20 over or under). That would give them a lead of 122.

The scores are now level at 260, Australia with a five wicket advantage.

01:06 Hussey gets to his 100 and Australia move on to 280/5. This could be the match winning innings. Australia 2/5 Draw 4/1 England 9/2 Both these players looking solid now and England starting to look forlon. It's 4/7 that Haddin is next man out, 13/10 Hussey.

01:25 Getting a bit frustrating watching this. Aussies going along nicely. Collingwood comes into the attack and Brad Haddin tries to hit him out the ground, he's nearly caught by Cook though. Two balls later he connects much better for a thumping four. Looks like Haddin is on the attack, he is 11/8 to get a ton. Game drifting away from England pretty quickly. Australia 4/11 Draw 4/1 England 11/2

Australia runs market now at 435.5 (over/under is 17/20). Surely that would put England out of the game. Something needs to happen quickly if that's not to be the case. At times like this on the last tour I would sleep for an hour and hope that would bring a wicket.

01:40 Swann bowling quite well but still no breakthrough, the lead is 51. England now the biggest price they have been all match at 6/1.

01:50 Everything going the Aussies way, Hussey plays a loose swipe and edges it high into the air, that could have gone anywhere but goes to the boundary. It's been a long morning for all England fans and it's difficult to see a way back into the game now. Australia 1/3 Draw 10/3 England 8/1 Looks like Swann will be the main man after lunch, he's now 9/4 to be top wicket taker in this innings. For Australia Mike Hussey is now odds on to get to 150, 8/13 yes, 6/5 no.

02:00 Two and half hours of torture for England fans. The only positive is that the bowlers weren't bad, a mixture of bad luck and good batting meaning there was no wickets in the first session of day three. The key moment of the session and most probably the match was the LBW appeals against Mike Hussey, one of which was wrongly given not out.  Australia 1/3 Draw 3/1 England 9/1 Don't worry, 9/1 shots win every day.

Come back for the second session when hopefully England will have all the luck. I'm going for the 20/1 that the next dismissal is a run-out.

02:40 Back underway at the Gabba. Swann twirling away and forcing a couple of false shots from Brad Haddin. Looks like Australia are taking a more aggresive approach. That could lead to chances for England. We have the fall of next wicket at 363.5 (17/20 over or under). The optimist in me would back on the unders.

02:45 These two have been batting since 04:10am on Thursday morning. Anyone backing on the next man out market made to wait for a result. It's 4/7 for Brad Haddin, 13/10 Hussey still.

02:55 It really is one of them days for England. Brad Haddin hits it into the air and it drops a few yards short of the fielder. Swann looks the most likely wicket taker at the moment, he's 7/4 to take the next wicket.

Australia 338/5, Haddin closing in on his century on 87.

03:00 Ok, I give up on England winning, I will take a draw at 10/3.

Anderson has bowled 34 overs in this innings, with figures of 2/84. A fine effort but he's getting tired now as Hussey takes ten from the over and the projected score for Australia is a huge 490.5 (over or under is 17/20). Australia 1/4 Draw 10/3 England 14/1

03:15 The Aussies are toying with England now, Brad Haddin goes from 94 to 100 in one lusty blow. He is 7/2 to top score in this innings, Hussey 1/6. Australia 364/5.

03:25 The Aussies becoming more aggresive, England more defensive. You can get Even money for over 3.5 runs in each over at the moment, that's a good bet with these two so well set. 380/5.

03:30 Hussey on to 147 and he's 6/5 to get a double century. It's nearly 24 hours since the last wicket.

03:35 England bowling wide balls to a defensive field, "boring, boring" chant the Aussie crowd.

03:40 Drinks. Australia 2/9 Draw 7/2 England 14/1. Ok, I am trying to think of a scenario where England can win the match, this is what I have come up with. Swann finds some turn in the next hour or two and we bowl the Aussies out with a deficit of 170. Strauss comes out and hits a double ton as England make 420. The pitch breaks up and Swann comes into his own as the Aussies are bowled out on the last day for 176. England win by 74 runs. I think I'm getting tired.

03:50 Broad peppering Haddin with short balls and he knocks one up in the air to Anderson who drops a fairly easy catch. England looking tired in the field now. Haddin is 4/7 to go next. Broad 5/2 to take the next wicket. Both bets should have been paid out there.

03:56 Hussey gets his 150. He is 6/5 for a double ton. His first ball landed a few inches short of the slip, he was given out early on today only for the decision to be overturned. He's making the most of it now though as he puts England to the sword.

The draw is shortening as there hasn't been a wicket for nearly 80 overs. It's 7/2. That would be a fine result for England, the Aussies are 2/9 and for the optimistic amongst you England are 14/1. The 400 is up for Australia.

04:10 24 hours since the last wicket. Broad beats the edge of Hussey, he's 5/2 to be the next wicket taker. Whenever that may be....

Don't forget there are £50 of free bets available each day of the test in our Ashes prediction competitions. Check the news page for details later today.

04:20 This is the highest Australian partnership ever at the Gabba. We think it's got another few in it yet, we have the next wicket at 453.5 (17/20 over or under).

Some greating sporting action later today with the Premier League (check out our enhanced odds bet bundles - I particularly like Bolton, Man United and Everton) Rugby Union internationals including England against the world champions South Africa and the Premier League Snooker finals. Ronnie is my bet of the weekend to win the competition at 10/11, he has been superb recently. Then we have the X Factor, surely time for Kate to go, she's 11/8. Rebecca Ferguson is 4/1 to win, surely some mistake? She's the best singer by far.

Meanwhile at the Gabba, England are now 20/1 to win. I am starting to worry about the long term damage this day will do to England's morale. Australia now odds on for the series at 8/13. If England can somehow escape with a draw though, that will give them a massive boost going to Adelaide. England 9/4 for the series.

04:35 The last time England took a wicket JLS topped the charts with 'Love you more'. Swann is back on, can he work some long awaited magic? He's 9/4 to take the next wicket.

TEA Third consecutive session without a wicket and Australia are 436/5. Reminds me of a day I spent at Headingley watching Pakistan bat without losing a wicket. They lost three or four in the last hour whilst I was on the train home. We now have the Australian first innings runs at 552.5 (over or under is 17/20). It's 7/1 for a wicket in the first over after tea. Australia 2/9 Draw 7/2 England 20/1

7/2 for the draw looks the only punt left for England fans, possibility of showers on Monday afternoon could help - Brisbane Weather

05:00 We're back. Don't forget we currently have 25 markets in-running on this game so if you don't want to bet on the final outcome of the match there are things like next over runs, whether a boundary will be hit in the next over, player runs, next wicket taker and 2nd innings markets you can get your teeth into, check it out William Hill 1st Test betting

05:15 300 partnership up, 448/5. The prices are holding firm waiting for the match to enter it's next stage Australia 2/9 Draw 7/2 England 20/1.

05:20 A WICKET!!! Australia 452/6 - Swann gets the edge from Brad Haddin and Collingwood takes a smart catch. Haddiin made 136, well played. Mitchell Johnson is in. England are 190 runs behind and still need four more wickets. No change in the match prices as a result of that wicket. Swann now 10/11 to be top England bowler in this innings, currently tied on two wickets with Finn and Anderson.

05:40 ANOTHER WICKET!!! Just like buses......Mike Hussey gets a short ball from Finn and pulls it high in the air but Cook is under it and takes an easy catch. Australia now 458/7. Australia 1/4 Draw 7/2 England 12/1

05:50 Drinks. Finn took his third wicket when dismissing Hussey, he'll be pleased with that. Doherty and Johnson the men in for Australia. It's 4/6 Doherty next man out, 11/10 Johnson.

06:00 FINN GETS ANOTHER!!! Good bowling from Steven Finn and he's sent Mitchell Johnson back for a duck. He now has four wickets. If only this spell of wickets happened first thing this morning England would be favourites. It wasn't to be. Some positives at least for the Three Lions. Australia 1/4 Draw 7/2 England 12/1

06:07 WELL BOWLED STEVEN FINN!!! Australia 472/9. Finn has a five wicket haul on his first appearance in an Ashes test match. A bouncer is too good for Peter Siddell and the ball ends up in the slips after looping up off his bat. Australia 2/7 Draw 5/2 England 12/1

Thoughts turning to the England 2nd innings. I fancy Strauss to put in a good effort this time around. He's 7/2 to top score.

06:20 WICKET!!! Australia all out after Steven Finn get's a six wicket haul, they lost their last five wickets for 31 runs once the breakthrough was eventually made. Unfortunately, for England it was about six hours too late. Australia 2/7 Draw 5/2 England 12/1

There is around an hour's play left today. England will be praying they can come through it unscaved. Strauss was out for a duck in the first innings, he's 5/1 to get a century this time around.

06:35 Strauss opens the batting and he's whacked on the pad first ball without playing a shot, looks out at first look, Aleem Dar says not out and the Aussies refer it. It's too high though and Dar's orignial decision stands. That was close. Strauss looks nervy after his first innings duck. His runs are set at 33.5 (under or over at 17/20). If he goes early it will be a long road back for England. Australia 2/7 Draw 3/1 England 12/1

07:00 England 9/0 with half an hour left of today's play. Xavier Doherty is stretching, he's 6/1 to take the next wicket.

07:20 England 18/0 and Marcus North is bowling, he's 5/1 for the first wicket. The Barmy Army in good voice. Ten minutes to survive for England. Australia 3/10 Draw 11/4 England 14/1

07:30 England survive a tricky hour and the pitch still looks good for batting. The draw is 11/4 now and there is still hope for England fans. Australia are 3/10 and an unlikely England win is 14/1.

Enjoy the sporting day, the action restarts at midnight. Let's hope England can do us proud with the bat.
