Brits on their bikes to start gold rush early

Mark Cavendish will be trying to start the GB Gold Rush when he mounts his bike on Saturday morning and William Hill make the Manx man 11/10 to win the Road Race and offer the same odds that he will scoop the first gold of the Games for GB.

"Cav did not have the best of times in the Tour de France although by his own admission, he was ‘dragging' Bradley Wiggins around and now he can focus all his attentions on proving that he is the fastest man on two wheels," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Bradley Wiggins is the 8/11 favourite to win the individual time trial and Hills offer 11/4 that the two British cyclists scoop a double gold triumph.

Adlington's Golden Smile to Light Up Pool

Rebecca Adlington is Team GB's golden girl of swimming and William Hill expect her to come away smiling with at least one gold medal in London 2012. She is 8/13 to win one gold, 9/2 for two and 2/1 for none as she battles in the 400m and 800m freestyle swimming events.

Adlington is the odds-on favourite to win the 800m at 4/9 with likely challenges coming from Denmark's Friss at 2/1 and Ledecky of the USA at 9/2. Camille Muffat is 1/2 to win the 400m freestyle which will seemingly prevent an Adlington clean sweep.

"Rebecca Adlington proved in Beijing how good she is but will have a tricky test against Muffat if she wants four individual gold medals in two Olympics," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
