Rod's Odds - Premier League Darts Week 3
Last week saw the wind swept south coast town of Bournemouth host Round 2 of the Premier League Darts, with the big double and treble coming flying in.
The other couple of bets that I thought would come up, went down. Barney lost from a 5-2 lead against Newton and a very out-of-sorts Simon Whitlock losing to Gary Anderson when I thought it would be closer. Peter Wright drawing with Dave Chisnall was always on the cards.
This week sees the first night off mainland Britain as we head to Belfast. The Odyssey arena will be packed to the rafters with screaming Irish fans.
First match of the night sees the two Scots Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton go head to head. Although Thornton is as solid as it gets, Anderson is playing some of his best darts for a while and there are signs that his prolific scoring power is coming back. I think he is playing well enough to take the win.
I'm going for an Anderson win (11/10) and over the 3.5 180s for him again this week (5/4).
Second match has the newly crowned Dutch Master, Michael Van Gerwen, taking on Dave Chisnall. Although Chizzy is brilliant on the treble twenty, it has been taking him to long to get started and this is a match where he can't let that happen.
Mighty Mike is flying at the moment, World No.1, World Champion and he has won both of his Premier League games - including a whitewash of Phil Taylor. It doesn't get much better for the young Dutchman, and the way he played in the final on Sunday when beating Mervyn King, he'll come into this match feeling great. I think he will get in front very early on, and hold the lead to beat Chizzy.
Van Gerwen win (4/9), also Michael for the most 180s (6/5) and highest checkout (1/2) which William Hill have in a special Match Treble, priced at 7/2. This is probably the only time I'll back against Chisnall on the 180s, but Chizzy will have to pick his form up considerably to get anything out of this game.
Peter Wright verses Phil Taylor is going to be a hard match to call. Again, last week Phil was out of sorts and made it quite easy for Adrian Lewis to get the win. Wright is playing some great darts at the moment, and it may be because Phil and I go back a long time, but it seems hard to go for a Wright win, however, all the form says he should and he's 9/4 if you fancy it.
The bet for me in this match is over 10.5 in legs (8/13). That would be the only one that stands out, apart from Wright being the most colourful! What will he wear this week? My bet is on lots of red.
Wes Newton v Adrian Lewis could be the closest game of the night. Although Adi beat Phil last week, let's not write Wes off, as he put in a strong performance also when beating Van Barneveld.
The main bet for me is over 120.5 on the checkout (5/6). Apart from that hold onto your money, I do think Adi will win (1/2), but Newton is sneaking up in matches at the moment and is dangerous. Wes +2.5 legs is 5/6.
I always say it's hard to back against Barneveld in any game, but at the moment it's hard to back him at all given last week, losing from 5-2 up. Saying that, he is playing a very below par Simon Whitlock at the moment.
Going on the Whitlock form I have to go for a Barney win (8/13) and again like the game above, over on the checkout looks good (Over 121.5 at 5/6).
BETS OF THE WEEK
My banker double this week is on Anderson and Van Gerwen to win their matches. Pays just over 2/1.
The treble is those two plus Barney for an almost 4/1 bet.
