Adams hoping to turn that frown upside-down
Tony Adams will be hoping his Portsmouth side can restore some pride and justify odds of 8/11 about a win over Dutch side Heerenveen in the UEFA Cup.
Neither side can qualify for the knockout stages making this an ideal stage for Adams to give some of his fringe players a run-out.
Heerenveen are 19/5 outsiders for the match having lost all three of their UEFA Cup group matches while Pompey have just the one point from their draw with AC Milan. If you fancy the same outcome the draw is available at 13/5.
Portsmouth should win the match comfortably with Heerenveen being no big-hitters in the poor Dutch league and are likely to field some fringe players also.
Nwankwo Kanu will be likely to get a rare start with Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch unlikely to feature early on. The Nigerian knows where the goal is and can get things going for Pompey at a tasty 5/1 to be first scorer.
Arnold Mvuemba is likely to start and will be looking to push for a regular first team place. He has already scored in this UEFA Cup campaign so is of some interest at 16/1 to bag the first goal.
A possible danger is former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gerald Sibon who is 8/1 to score first for Heerenveen.
Although the match has little relevance to either side Adams will want to get a win to restore some confidence after Pompey were humiliated 3-0 by Newcastle last weekend.
Heerenveen are very poor and a correct score of 3-0 to Portsmouth at 11/1 is feasible as Adams will be looking for a solid defensive display while attacking players will be looking to impress with goals
Arnold Mvuemba to score first - 16/1
