Barclays Premier League Opta Facts –December 3-4

Crystal Palace v West Ham United

  • Crystal Palace have won just four of 24 Barclays Premier League London derbies on home soil (L12 D8).
  • West Ham have won just two of their last 20 Barclays Premier League away games (W2 D6 L12).
  • Jerome Thomas has scored three goals in four Barclays Premier League appearances against West Ham - against no side has he scored more often.
  • Palace have failed to score in three of their last four Premier League games at Selhurst Park, netting just once in the other game within this run.
  • The Hammers have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League away matches, but have kept four clean sheets in the last six.
  • This is Crystal Palace's worst points tally (7) after 13 games of a Premier League season and they have been relegated in all of the previous four top flight campaigns.
  • The Eagles have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games, losing eight in that run.
  • Palace have scored just three goals in their last 10 Premier League matches, despite attempting 67 shots at goal (excl. blocked) in these games.

  • Arsenal have lost just one of their last 15 Premier League games at the Emirates Stadium (W11 D3 L1).
  • The Gunners have scored five headed goals from just seven headers on target in the Premier League this season.

  • Arsenal have conceded just 15 goals in their last 23 Premier League games, only one team has scored more than one in a match against them in that run (Aston Villa in August - 1-3).

Liverpool v Norwich City

  • Liverpool have won seven and lost none (D1) of their last eight Barclays Premier League games against Norwich City.
  • Norwich have won just three of their 25 Premier League away games under Chris Hughton (W3 D7 L15).
  • Luis Suarez has scored seven goals in his last three league games against Norwich, with four of them coming from outside the box.
  • Of Suarez's seven goals against Norwich City, just one has been scored at Anfield. The other six came in two games at Carrow Road (two hat-tricks).
  • Liverpool have won eight and lost just one of their last 12 Premier League home games (D3).
  • Brendan Rodgers' side have shipped just three goals in the last eight league matches at Anfield.
  • Norwich City have scored just eight goals in the last 14 away games and failed to score in eight of those 14 matches.
  • Norwich have only won back to back Premier League games once since December 2012.
  • Liverpool have only kept one clean sheet in their last 10 Premier League matches - this after keeping six in their previous seven games.

Manchester United v Everton

  • Chelsea (twice) are the only team to prevent the Red Devils from scoring in their last 74 league matches at Old Trafford.
  • Everton have won none of their last 20 Barclays Premier League away games at Old Trafford (W0 D4 L16).
  • Robin van Persie has scored six goals and assisted five more in 10 Barclays Premier League starts against Everton.
  • Everton have won just two of their last 14 league matches away from home (W2 D7 L5), but both of those victories have come this season.
  • Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini netted 25 league goals for Everton including three in this fixture against Manchester United.
  • The last time Romelu Lukaku faced up against Manchester United, he scored a hat-trick for West Brom in May 2013.
  • Romelu Lukaku is one of only three players to score a Premier League hat-trick against Manchester United (after Dirk Kuyt and David Bentley).
  • Manchester United have scored more goals against Everton than any team against any single opponent in Premier League history (84).

Southampton v Aston Villa

  • Rickie Lambert scored three goals in the two Barclays Premier League meetings with Aston Villa last season.
  • Aston Villa have drawn the most away matches in Premier League history (129) including the last three in a row.
  • The Saints have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League games at St Mary's (W6 D4 L1), including winning the last four in a row.
  • The last time that Southampton won five successive Premier League home games was back in March 1999.
  • Mauricio Pochettino's side have conceded just one goal in their last five Premier League home matches.
  • Southampton have allowed their opponents just 13 shots on target at St Mary's this season - fewer than any other team at home.
  • In Villa's last 10 Premier League games they have either kept a clean sheet (five times) or conceded exactly two goals (five times).
  • Paul Lambert's side have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League games, but scored exactly two in each of the other two games.
  • Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches; keeping three clean sheets in the process, but three of those matches have been draws (W1 D3).

Stoke City v Cardiff City

  • Stoke have won four and lost none of their last six meetings in all competitions against Cardiff City (W4 D2 L0).
  • There have been just five goals scored in the last five Barclays Premier League matches played at the Britannia Stadium.
  • Jonathan Walters has scored three goals in his last four appearances against Cardiff City in all competitions.
  • Cardiff City have committed just 111 fouls this season - fewer than any other team in the top flight - while only Southampton (178) have conceded more than Stoke (177).
  • Stoke City have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games (W1 D4 L5).
  • Cardiff have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches (W1 D2 L4).
  • Stoke are one of three teams yet to score a headed goal this season along with Spurs and West Ham.
  • In fact, Stoke have mustered the joint-fewest headers on target in the top flight (4) along with Fulham and Crystal Palace.
  • In contrast, no team has conceded more headed goals than Stoke City (six, along with Fulham and Newcastle).
  • Only Fulham (83) have allowed more shots on target against them than Cardiff City this season (81).

 

Sunderland v Chelsea

  • Sunderland have scored just 12 goals in their last 14 Barclays Premier League matches at the Stadium of Light.
  • Chelsea have won 16 and lost one of their last 17 Barclays Premier League games against Sunderland.
  • Fernando Torres has scored six goals in seven Premier League starts against Sunderland - against no side has he netted more in the competition.
  • Torres has scored three goals in his last three Premier League appearances at the Stadium of Light.
  • Chelsea have only won back to back Premier League away games once in 2013.
  • Sunderland have attempted fewer shots on target than any other team in the top flight this season (30) and attempted just one in their last PL game versus Aston Villa at the weekend.
  • Chelsea have scored three times in each of their last two games, they have not managed 3+ in three successive Premier League games since October 2011 and have only done it four times in total so far.
  • Sunderland have conceded more own goals than any other Premier League team this season (3).
  • Against Villa at the weekend, Sunderland became only the second team in Premier League history to name four Italians in the starting line-up (after Chelsea in 2000).
  • Chelsea have been caught offside more often than any other Premier League side this season (43 times).

 

Swansea City v Newcastle United

  • Swansea City have won just one of their last 11 league matches at the Liberty Stadium (W1 D5 L5).
  • Newcastle have alternated between wins and defeats in their last seven league away games (W4 L3).
  • Going further back, Newcastle United have won just five of their last 26 (W5 D7 L14) away from home in the Premier League.
  • Three of the four goals scored in the league meetings between these sides last season were netted in the 85th minute or later.
  • Loic Remy has scored eight goals in his last nine Premier League appearances and also assisted a goal in the weekend victory over West Brom.
  • Of the 10 players to have scored more than five PL goals this season, only Aaron Ramsey (33.3%) and Romelu Lukaku (36.4%) have a better shot conversion rate than Remy (29.6%).
  • Yoann Gouffran has scored in three of his last four Premier League appearances, while he assisted a goal in the other appearance during this run.
  • Only Fulham and Crystal Palace (both four) have picked up fewer home points than Swansea (6) this season.
  • 18 of Newcastle's 19 Premier League goals this season have been scored by Frenchmen.

  • Fulham's win at White Hart Lane in March 2013 ended a run of six straight defeats for the west Londoners against Spurs.
  • This will be Tottenham's 100th London derby played away from home and so far they have won just 25 of the previous 99.
  • Fulham have scored just three goals in their last nine Premier League meetings with Tottenham.
  • Fulham have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games at Craven Cottage (W1 D1 L8).
  • Martin Jol's side have scored exactly one goal in each of their last seven Premier League games on home soil.
  • Tottenham have kept four clean sheets in their last six Premier League away games, although they conceded six last time on the road when they lost 0-6 to Man City.
  • Fulham have mustered fewer shots (inc. blocked) than any other team in the top flight this season (106) - 25 fewer than any other side.
  • The West Londoners have also allowed their opponents more shots on target against them than any other team in the top flight (83).
  • Spurs have gone four Premier League games without a win (W0 D2 L2) - they haven't gone five without a victory since March 2012 (under Harry Redknapp).
  • Tottenham have scored with a lower percentage of their shots than any other team in the top flight this season (6.3%).

 

West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City

  • The Baggies have mustered just one goal in their last six Premier League games against Manchester City.
  • There have been four red cards in the last five meetings between Man City and West Brom at the Hawthorns, three of which have been given to the Citizens.
  • Compared to at home; where they have won all 21 possible points, Manchester City have picked up just four points from six Premier League away games this season (W1 D1 L4).
  • The Citizens have already lost the same number of Premier League away games this season (4) as they did in the whole of 2012-13 (4).
  • West Brom have won just two of their last 10 Premier League games at the Hawthorns (W2 D4 L4), but are unbeaten in the last four (W2 D2).
  • West Brom have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches (W1 D4 L2).
  • Manchester City are looking to win three successive Premier League games for the first time since mid-April.
