Barclays Premier League Opta Facts – February 22-23

 

Chelsea v Everton

Chelsea have lost none of their last 18 Barclays Premier League home games against Everton (W9 D9).

Steven Naismith has scored in two of his three Barclays Premier League appearances against Chelsea.

The Londoners have won just three of the last 11 Premier League games against the Toffees (W3 D4 L4).

There have been four goals in the opening 15 minutes of the last four meetings between Chelsea and Everton.

All six of Samuel Eto'o's Premier League goals for Chelsea have been scored at Stamford Bridge.

Everton have scored 10 goals through defenders this season in the Premier League, more than any other side. Their opponents Chelsea have seen six goals from defenders (third most).

Six of Everton's last 11 Premier League goals have been scored from outside the box; three of which have been netted by Kevin Mirallas.

Jose Mourinho's side are on the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League currently (11 games - W8 D3).

Mourinho's unbeaten home record as a Premier League manager now stands at 73 games (W57 D16).

Arsenal v Sunderland

Arsenal have lost just one of their last 20 Barclays Premier League games against Sunderland (W12 D7 L1).

Sunderland have not won away at Arsenal in the league since November 1983, losing 10 of the 14 visits since.

Despite Sunderland not scoring in four of the last five visits to the Emirates Stadium, the Black Cats have taken points three times in those encounters with 0-0 draws.

Mesut Ӧzil made his debut in the reverse fixture earlier this season and set up Olivier Giroud's opening goal.

Sunderland have gone six on the road without defeat in the Premier League (W3 D3 L0) - this after winning just one point in their eight PL away games (D1 L7) prior to this run.

Adam Johnson has scored or assisted eight goals in six PL apps so far in 2014, one more than he was involved in over 2013 as a whole (seven in 35 apps).

The Gunners have lost just one of their last 17 Premier League games in the month of February (W13 D3 L1).

Arsenal have not conceded a Premier League goal at the Emirates Stadium for seven hours and 36 minutes.

All five of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain's Premier League goals and all five of his Premier League assists have come at the Emirates Stadium.

Cardiff City v Hull City

Cardiff City have failed to score in 14 Barclays Premier League games this season; more often than any other team.

Hull City have lost just one of their last five league meetings with Cardiff City (W2 D2).

As a team, Hull City have made just 371 touches in the opposition box this season - fewer than any other side in the Premier League.

Cardiff City have scored the fewest (5) and have conceded the most goals (21) in the first half of Premier League matches this season.

The Bluebirds have conceded a higher number (18) and proportion (41%) of goals in the final 15 minutes of Premier League games this season than any other side.

However, Hull have netted only three goals in the final 15 minutes of Premier League games this season; fewer than any other side.

David Marshall is the only player to have made over 100 saves in the Premier League this season (104) - 17 more than any other 'keeper.

Steve Bruce needs one more victory to reach 100 Premier League wins as a manager.

Former Hull City loanee Frazier Campbell is the only player to have scored more than once at the Cardiff City Stadium for the Bluebirds this season in the PL (4).

Manchester City v Stoke City

Man City have won all five Barclays Premier League home games versus Stoke without conceding a single goal, with four of the matches ending 3-0.

Stoke have failed to score in six of their last 11 league games against Man City and just one goal in each of the other five.

Mark Hughes was Manchester City manager between June 2008 and December 2009 winning 22 and losing 20 of his 55 games in charge.

Sergio Aguero has scored three goals against Stoke in two appearances against the Potters at the Etihad Stadium.

There have been 10 instances of a Stoke player making an error leading to an opposition goal this season; more often than any other team.

Yaya Toure has scored with seven of his eight attempts from a dead ball situations this season - 3/3 penalties, 4/5 direct free-kicks.

Overall, Toure has scored 12 goals from just 16 shots on target in the top-flight this term.

Manchester City have not lost back to back Premier League home games since December 2008.

Since the start of their title winning season in 2011-12, Manchester City have conceded only four goals in the opening 15 minutes of Premier League games.

Stoke City have averaged 385 passes per game in the PL this season; at least 62 more per game than in any season under Tony Pulis. They have also completed a higher proportion of their passes (76.3%).

 

West Bromwich Albion v Fulham

West Brom have failed to score in the first half of 14 of the 15 Barclays Premier League meetings with Fulham.

Fulham have lost none of their last six Barclays Premier League games against West Brom (W3 D3).

The Baggies have drawn 12 of their 26 Premier League games this season; at least three more than any other side.

Fulham have already used a league-high 34 players in the Premier League this season; five more than they did in the whole of 2012-13 (29).

West Bromwich Albion have seen 16 different players net a goal for them in the Premier League this season; more than any other side.

Claudio Yacob has made a league-high 98 tackles this season in the Premier League.

New Fulham boss Felix Magath will be the first German manager to take charge of a Barclays Premier League game.

Magath is vastly experienced in Germany and has managed seven different clubs and taken charge of 495 games in the Bundesliga (winning 231 - 46.7%).

Fulham have conceded the first goal of the game on 19 occasions this season in the Premier League; more often than any other club.

West Ham United v Southampton

West Ham have won just one of their last eight league meetings with Southampton (W1 D4 L3).

Southampton have won back-to-back away games in the Barclays Premier League - they have never won three in a row in the competition.

The Hammers have won three successive Premier League matches - the longest run of its kind in the competitions currently.

West Ham have kept four clean sheets in a row for the first time in Premier League history - they haven't kept five in a row in the top-flight since December 1985.

Only one player has made more tackles than Morgan Schneiderlin this season (91), but the Frenchman has been given a yellow card in half of his 12 PL away apps this term (6).

No side has lost more points from winning positions than West Ham United (14) in the Premier League this season.

Four of the six Premier League goals that Southampton have netted in February so far have been scored (2) or assisted (2) by Rickie Lambert.

22 of the 28 goals that Kevin Nolan has scored in the Premier League since the start of 2010-11 have been netted in home games (79%).

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Crystal Palace have scored the highest proportion of goals from set-piece situations this season in the Barclays Premier League (44%).

Manchester United have won nine and lost none of their last 11 league meetings with Crystal Palace.

No Crystal Palace player has assisted more than one goal in the Premier League this season.

David Moyes has not named the same starting XI in any two competitive games this season, with this being his 40th match in charge of the Red Devils.

Manchester United are yet to lose a Premier League game that they have been leading in this season (W12 D3) - one of only three sides to manage this (alongside Swansea and Spurs).

However, no team has lost as many points from goals conceded in the final 10 minutes of Premier League games this season than Man Utd (7).

Palace have recouped just one point from a losing position in the Premier League this season; a joint league low.

Since Tony Pulis took charge of his first Palace game in the Premier League on November 30th 2013; the Eagles have won just two points fewer (19) than Manchester United (21), but have played one game less.

Only bottom side Fulham (18) have lost more Premier League games than Crystal Palace (15) this season.

Liverpool v Swansea City

Daniel Sturridge is the first Liverpool player to score in seven successive Barclays Premier League appearances.

Swansea have won two and lost just one of their last six meetings in all competitions with Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers was manager of Swansea City before moving to Liverpool in the summer of 2012. He won 43 of his 96 games as boss of the Welsh side.

Swansea City (33 goals) have scored exactly half the amount of goals in the Premier League this season as Liverpool (66 goals).

Just 25% of Swansea's passes have been in the attacking third of the pitch this season; a lower proportion than any other side.

The Reds have made the most through-balls in the Premier League this season (44).

Swansea City's Ben Davies has created the most goalscoring chances without having assisted a goal in the Premier League so far this season (27).

Steven Gerrard has assisted seven goals from set-piece situations in the PL this season; three more than any other player.

Despite scoring eight Premier League goals this season, Wilfried Bony is yet to score one in England.

Swans boss Garry Monk made 45 league appearances for Swansea during the two seasons that Brendan Rodgers was manager of the club in 2010-11 and 2011-12 (excl. play-offs).

Newcastle United v Aston Villa

The Magpies are unbeaten in the last seven league games against Villa at St James Park (W4 D3) and in the last five home and away (W3 D2).

Christian Benteke has scored in each of his two Barclays Premier League games against Newcastle United.

Benteke has scored the most headed goals (4) and has attempted the most headed shots (20) in the Premier League this season.

Hatem Ben Arfa has scored in both of his Premier League appearances against Aston Villa.

The last time Aston Villa won at St James Park, the Magpies had three players sent off, including Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer for fighting each other in April 2005.

Aston Villa have played the highest proportion of their passes long in the Premier League this season (16.7%).

Cheick Tioté has attempted more shots at goal without scoring this season in the PL (23; excl. blocked) than any other player.

Newcastle United have now failed to score in seven of their last eight games in the Barclays Premier League.

Alan Pardew's side have not scored in any of their last four Premier League games at St. James' Park. The last time they went longer without a goal was August 2007 (six games).

The Magpies have not seen a single English player score a goal for them in any of their last 45 Premier League matches.

Paul Lambert has a lower win percentage in the Premier League at Aston Villa (26.6%) than he did at Norwich City as manager in the competition (31.6%).

 

Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur

None of the 63 substitutes to have played for Norwich City in the league this season have scored or assisted a goal for the Canaries.

Tottenham have won six and lost just one of their last 10 Barclays Premier League games against Norwich City.

Spurs have won four and lost none of their six Premier League trips to Carrow Road.

Since Tim Sherwood took charge of his first Premier League game on December 22nd 2013, Spurs have won 23 points - only Chelsea (24) have won more.

In the 10 Premier League games under Tim Sherwood, Tottenham have found the net on every occasion and averaged over two goals a game (2.1).

Norwich City have scored just five goals in their last 11 Premier League matches and never more than once in a game during this run.

Norwich City summer signings Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Johan Elmander have produced just one goal and six shots on target between them this season, despite playing a combined tally of 1961 minutes of Premier League football.

Emmanuel Adebayor has scored eight goals from 13 shots on target in just 908 minutes of Premier League football this season, averaging a goal every 114 mins.

Adebayor has scored or assisted 14 goals (11 goals, three assists) in his last 17 Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.

If Tottenham win this match, they'll equal their best points tally after 27 games of a Premier League season (53 in 2011-12).
