Barclays Premier League Opta Facts – March 16-17

 

Everton v Manchester City

  • Everton have won five of their last seven Barclays Premier League encounters with Manchester City (L1 D1).
  • Roberto Mancini has lost to David Moyes more than any other manager in the Premier League (5).
  • Carlos Tevez has scored in his last four appearances for Manchester City (six goals); he has never scored in five consecutive appearances since moving to England (all comps).
  • Everton have kept only two clean sheets in their last 23 Premier League games.
  • Both teams have scored in 22 of Everton's 28 Premier League games this season.
  • Man City have kept six clean sheets in their last eight league games.
  • Everton have made fewer substitutions than any other Premier League team this season (67), Man City the most (83).
  • No team has hit the woodwork more than Everton (19) and no team has had more shots cleared off the line (10) than the Toffees.
  • Leighton Baines is one of only three outfield players to play every minute of every game for his side this season.
  • Since August 2010 Joe Hart has kept 48 clean sheets in the Premier League, 13 more than any other goalkeeper.

 

Aston Villa v Queens Park Rangers

  • The last three Barclays Premier League meetings between Aston Villa and QPR have ended as score draws.
  • Villa have taken 13 points from their five Premier League home games against Queens Park Rangers.
  • Queens Park Rangers have not won three Premier League games in a row since March 1995.
  • Despite a shot conversion rate of 23% in their last game (three goals from 13 shots v Sunderland), QPR still have the lowest shot conversion rate in the Premier League (9%).
  • QPR have not won a Premier League game north of London since beating Stoke in November 2011.
  • Christian Benteke has scored seven goals in the Premier League so far in 2013, but has also picked up four yellow cards in his last six Premier League appearances.
  • Aston Villa haven't won consecutive Premier League games for 67 matches (last did so in May 2011).
  • Stephan Mbia has picked up six bookings in his last 11 Premier League appearances.
  • QPR have scored the fewest goals in the first half (9), Villa the joint-fewest in the second half (13).
  • Aston Villa have conceded more goals after half-time than any other team (36). If Premier League games ended at half-time this season, Villa would be eighth in the table.

 

Southampton v Liverpool

  • Southampton have won three of their last four Premier League home games against Liverpool, with all three wins ending 2-0.
  • The Reds have scored only four goals in their last six top-flight encounters with the Saints.
  • The Saints have won only one of their last eight Premier League games (W1 D4 L3).
  • Luis Suarez has scored nine goals in the Premier League 2013; two more than any other player.
  • When Stewart Downing has scored or assisted a Premier League goal this season, Liverpool have always won (five games).
  • Liverpool have not won four Premier League games in a row since February 2011.
  • The Reds have conceded either no goals or two goals exactly in their last 10 league games (five times each).

  • Stoke have taken 16 points from their seven Barclays Premier League meetings with WBA.
  • Stoke average 2.29 points per game against the Baggies in the Premier League, only against Blackburn (2.38) do they have more.
  • Stoke have lost seven of their last nine Barclays Premier League games (W1 D1).
  • Stoke City have managed to score just once in the first half of their nine Premier League games in 2013
  • The Potters have gone eight Premier League home games without a clean sheet after keeping four in a row in September-November.
  • Stoke have scored the highest proportion of goals in the opening 15 minutes of Premier League games this season (22%).
  • If the Premier League had started on January 1st 2013, Stoke would be bottom of the table with just four points.
  • 37% of Stoke's Premier League goals this season have come from corners or throws.
  • WBA are one of only two teams (along with Wigan) not to score from a free kick (either indirect or direct)
  • Five of Stoke's last six Premier League home games have gone over 2.5 goals with four of them going over 3.5 goals.

 

Swansea City v Arsenal

  • This will be the fourth competitive meeting between Arsenal and Swansea already this season, with both teams having a W1 D1 L1 record.
  • Six of the seven goals scored in games between Arsenal and Swansea this season have come in the closing 10 minutes.
  • Michu has scored three of Swansea's four goals against Arsenal this season.
  • Swansea have conceded a higher proportion of goals from set pieces than any other team in the PL this season (50%).
  • Swansea are looking to win four Premier League home games in a row for the first time.
  • Arsenal have averaged 58.5% possession this season, higher than any other team (Swansea are sixth - 55.6%).
  • Ki-Seung Young has had more shots (inc. blocked) without scoring than any other Premier League player this season (36).
  • Arsenal (14) have picked up only one more point than QPR (13) in 2013, while Swansea (12) have one point fewer than the bottom of the league side.

Manchester United v Reading

  • The two competitive games between Man Utd and Reading so far this season have produced a total of 10 goals.
  • Reading's only competitive win against Manchester United came back in 1927.
  • Wayne Rooney has been involved in a Premier League goal (scoring or assisting) every 75 minutes this season, his best-ever rate in a league campaign.
  • Reading have let 23 points slip from winning positions in the Premier League this season, only Southampton (27) have lost more.
  • Man Utd have come from behind to win more points than any other Premier League team this season (27).
  • Reading have fewer points after 29 games (23) than in either of their previous Premier League campaigns.
  • Reading are on the longest current run of consecutive defeats (4) & have the longest overall run in the Premier League this season (7).
  • Robin van Persie's conversion rate in his past nine games is 5% (all comps), compared to 27% in the 28 games before that.
  • Reading have only won one of the games in which Adam Le Fondre has started but three when he has come on as a sub.
  • Man Utd have scored the most headed goals this season and the most from corners (both 13).


Sunderland v Norwich

  • Five of the last six goals scored in Sunderland v Norwich games have come before half-time. Norwich have, however, scored only one first half goal in their nine Premier League games in 2013 so far.
  • Norwich have failed to score in six of their last eight Premier League games.
  • Norwich have drawn six games 0-0 this season, more than any other Premier League side, Sunderland, meanwhile, have four.
  • Steven Fletcher has scored the first goal of a game on seven occasions in the Premier League this season, more than any other player.
  • Norwich have scored more direct free kicks than any other team this season but all four came in a spell between November 28 and December 29.
  • Norwich (10) have scored five times as many headed goals as Sunderland (2) in the Premier League this season.
  • Robert Snodgrass has picked up four bookings in his last seven Premier League appearances.
  • Danny Graham has gone 294 minutes without a Premier League goal.

Tottenham Hotspur v Fulham

  • Tottenham have won their last six Barclays Premier League games in a row against Fulham, this after winning only five of the previous 17.
  • Fulham have scored a total of only two goals in their last eight top-flight games against Spurs.
  • Spurs have scored more long range goals than any other Premier League team this season (11).
  • Fulham have only ever won 21 of their 104 Premier League London derbies.
  • Tottenham have scored 249 goals in Premier League London derbies.
  • Spurs have fashioned 31 chances from counter-attacks this season, more than any other size.
  • Fulham have taken only five points from six London derbies this season, while Spurs have 16, more than any other capital club.
  • Gareth Bale has taken more direct free-kicks than any other player in the Premier League this season (19) but has scored with only two.

Chelsea v West Ham United

  • Three of the last four Barclays Premier League games between Chelsea and West Ham have gone over 3.5 goals.
  • West Ham have not won a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge since September 2002.
  • The two players to have scored the most goals without assisting a single one in the Premier League this season are Demba Ba (15) and Frank Lampard (11).
  • Fernando Torres has gone 11 hours and 22 minutes since last scoring a Premier League goal.
  • But Torres has scored six goals and has three assists in seven Premier League games against the Hammers. Against no other Premier League opponent has he scored more often.
  • West Ham's nine London derbies this season have produced a total of 35 goals (3.89 per game).
  • Chelsea have won their last three Premier League games at Stamford Bridge.
  • West Ham have scored in seven successive Premier League games, the last time they had a run of this length was November 2009 (10 games).
  • Matt Jarvis has created more chances without recording an assist than any other player (29).

Wigan Athletic v Newcastle United

  • Wigan average 2.5 points per Barclays Premier League home game against Newcastle, more than they do against any other team they've played more than twice.
  • The Magpies have scored just two goals in six trips to the DW Stadium.
  • Newcastle have used more players than any other side in the Premier League this season (31).
  • Three of Yohan Cabaye's six Premier League goals this season have been scored from outside the box.
  • Newcastle have played the highest proportion of long passes in the Premier League this season (16.5%).
  • Callum McManaman has played more sub appearances without ever starting than any other player in Premier League history (17).
  • Emmerson Boyce has misplaced more passes in his defensive third than any other Premier League player this season (28).
  • Wigan have conceded more goals in 2013 than any other Premier League side (20) and have the fewest home points this season (10).
  • The Latics have conceded more penalties than any other Premier League team this season (7).
