Battle Of Britain all set for another English win
One of the most anticipated matches of the first round of group matches sees Scottish giants Rangers travel to Old Trafford to try and cause a huge upset and return north of the border with something to show for their efforts.
Manchester United (2/11) are obviously massive favourites to win this match, they have lost just one their last 26 home Champions League matches. There is some cause for concern though as the Red Devils have thrown away leads in two of their last three league matches to late goals.
Rangers (18/1) will do well to keep the score respectable against a free-scoring United side. They haven't been able to win any of their last 10 Champions League matches and they could be in for a long night at Old Trafford.
Rangers have historically struggled to score against English sides in Europe too, they haven't bagged a goal in six of their previous 12 matches against a team south of the border and when these two sides met in the 2003/04 Champions League, Man Utd won both legs and didn't concede a goal.
The Gers should come in to this match with some confidence though, they have won all four league matches so far, two home and two away.
I don't for one minute think Rangers are pushovers and with Kenny Miller and James Beattie up front, they could finally get a goal against a United side that have conceded five goals in two matches. If you fancy them to score then the 'both teams to score' market is worth a punt at 13/8.
If you think Rangers barren run in front of goal will continue then I personally prefer the 8/13 on Man Utd to be the only team to score.
The good news for Manchester United fans is that Wayne Rooney was back in training ahead of the match after his shock omission from the squad that faced his old club Everton. That means Rooney is likely to start and he could be keen to prove Sir Alex wrong for leaving him out and is 9/4 to score first.
Dimitar Berbatov seems to be in decent scoring form with two already this season and has looked bright, I fancy him to bag a couple in this match and I prefer the 9/2 on him to score 2 or more any time than the 4/1 to score first.
To get more value out of backing the home side you really need to decide how many goals you think they will realistically be able to put past Rangers. Then you have to head straight for the match handicaps, I personally fancy the Man Utd -2 goals at 7/5 but you can get -1 goal at 1/2 and -3 goals at 7/2.
If you think Rangers can get away with a point or even all three, then the best place to go is the Rangers Or Draw market in the double chance at 18/5.
The Match Winner offers on this match have a more than likely chance of coming in at some decent prices. You can back Kenny Miller to score anytime and Rangers to win by any means at 25/1 or you can back Wayne Rooney to score first and Man United to win 3-1 at 40/1.
