Bayern will win the battle but lose the war

Most people would not have predicted either of these sides in this year's Champions League semi-finals but both sides have proved they are forces to be reckoned with.

Bayern Munich (4/6) produced two stunning performances against Man Utd in the quarter-finals which saw them progress on away goals.

Bayern are hoping to qualify for their first Champions League final since 2001 when they managed to beat Valencia on penalties. If you believe in omens, Bayern actually overcame Man Utd in the quarters that year too.

Lyon (9/2) are in unchartered territory having never managed to get this far in the history of the Champions League. They are clearly underdogs against a much more experienced Bayern side, but write them off at your peril. This side has already seen off Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bordeaux to get this far.

Lyon might also be encouraged as the team they saw off in the last round (Bordeaux) actually beat this Bayern side home (0-2) and away (2-1) in this year's group stage.

In their respective leagues, Bayern are arguably having the better season. They are two points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. They are on for a big treble, they are top of the table, in the domestic cup final and

Their form looked to be dipping somewhat with just one win in four matches but they seem to be back on track after they smashed Hannover 4-0 in their last match with Arjen Robben bagging a hat-trick.

Lyon on the other hand are third in Ligue 1, nine points off the top spot. They have drawn their last two league matches, which has been their major problem. They have lost just six matches all season but somehow managed to draw eleven.

A massive boost for Lyon is the return of striker Lisandro Lopez from suspension. He is their main threat up front and scored two in the previous round. He is 7/1 to open the scoring at the Allianz Arena.

The home side have their own big guns up top, Mario Gomez (4/1 first goal) should lead the line with Ivicia Olic (4/1) and Arjen Robben (11/2) either side of him and main man Franck Ribery floating around (7/1 first, 2/1 anytime) so goals can come from anywhere.

I think Bayern have a lot more quality spread across the team than Lyon but I also find it hard to discount how well Lyon have performed when they have been written off in the past.

I personally think Bayern will win this match but could really struggle in the reverse leg. The prices for a team to qualify for the final are 8/13 on Bayern and 6/5 on Lyon.

I think this match will end 2-1 to the home side (7/1) which gives Lyon the upper hand with an away goal and I think the French side will qualify overall.
