Bookies Bowled Over By Saints Sacking...

Nigel Adkins' departure from St Marys may have come as a shock to most football fans around the country, but not to the bookmakers. William Hill saw the former Southampton boss backed in from 5/1 to 1/4 in the space of a few short hours on Friday morning, with the biggest bet being a £150 wager from Christchurch at 5/1. Paul Lambert is now the 7/4 favourite to become the next Premier League boss to leave his job while Martin Jol is just behind at 2/1.

Southampton are 7/4 joint fourth favourites to be relegated this season.

"We saw a rush of bets early on Friday morning that saw Adkins' odds collapse and it looks as though a few people have stolen a march on us," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Given Luis Suarez's recent admission that he perhaps fell to the floor a little easily against Stoke last year, the diving debate has once again come to the fore. William Hill are offering 8/13 that any player this weekend is booked for simulation during this weekend's Premier League fixtures.
