Bothroyd gets call-up in experimental England squad
Fabio Capello has named his squad for the forthcoming friendly against France this week, and it's fair to say it is an unusal set of players!
Jay Bothroyd is the most surprising of additions to the squad, the Cardiff striker has been in excellent form in the Championship this season but even after scoring 15 goals he can't have expected to be wearing international colours.
His cause has been helped by the growing list of injured strikers currently unavailable to the Italian.
One name that isn't a surprise to the squad is Andy Carroll, the Newcastle man has enjoyed his second stint in the Premier League after scoring bags full in the Geordies title winning season last year.
With striking options thin on the ground, Kevin Davies will feel a bit miffed to have been over-looked after performing well this season.
Jordan Henderson has been on great form for Sunderland this year and is deserving of a chance to impress.
Despite not starting a Premier League game for Manchester United, Chris Smalling has recieved his first call-up.
The squad in full:
Foster, Hart, Green
Gibbs, Cole, Terry, Jagielka, Lescott, Richards, Ferdinand, Smalling
Walcott, Wilshere, Young, Gerrard, Barry, Johnson, Milner, Henderson
Agbonlahor, Bothroyd, Carroll, Crouch.
