Eintracht Frankfurt v SpVgg Greuther Fürth

  • It's the first ever BL meeting between last season's strongest teams in the Second Division. They have taken vastly different paths as promoted teams this BL season: While Frankfurt are third in the table, Fürth are bottom of the table with only one win and six points gained.
  • The team ranked bottom of the table at the start of a matchday has only lost once this season (four wins, three draws): Augsburg lost 1-3 at Leverkusen on MD5. Fürth have gained four points from two games when ranked last in the table.
  • Frankfurt have lost only one of their last eight games v Fürth in all competitions (five wins, two draws): 1-2 at Fürth in a Second Division meeting in October 2004. They are unbeaten against Fürth in their last four duels on home soil (three wins, one draw).
  • Frankfurt's only home loss v Fürth in all competitions was more than eleven years ago (1-4 in September 2001) - that game, however, was Frankfurt's worst ever home loss in the Second Division.
  • Frankfurt have the best home record of all BL teams: 13 points from five games. Fürth, on the other hand, have gained five of their six points away from home, and have lost only one of their four away games (one win, two draws).
  • The team with the second most goals (Frankfurt, 20, like Dortmund) will meet the team with the second fewest (Fürth, six, like Wolfsburg). Eintracht's Alex Meier alone has scored as many goals as all Fürthers.
  • Frankfurt have the second highest average possession in the league (56.5%), while Fürth have the second lowest (42.4%).
  • Frankfurt have scored the most headed goals (seven, like Bayern), while Fürth have scored the fewest (one, like Augsburg).
  • Armin Veh was Fürth manager from June 1996 to October 1997, guiding the club from the Third League (then Regionalliga) into the Second.
  • Frankfurt's Olivier Occean, last season's joint top goalscorer in the Second League (17 goals, with Fürth), and  Martin Lanig used to play for Fürth. Fürth's Kevin Kraus, on the other hand, played junior football with Eintracht, joining Fürth in 2011 from Frankfurt.

Borussia Dortmund v VfB Stuttgart

  • The two teams' last meeting (4-4 on MD28 of 2011/12 at Dortmund) was last season's highest scoring BL game. Dortmund took a 2-0 lead, before Stuttgart went ahead 3-2, only for the game to end 4-4.
  • Stuttgart have earned 38 BL wins vs Dortmund - only against Schalke have they won more BL games (39).
  • The two teams' last three meetings have all ended in draws - it's currently Dortmund's longest winless run against any BL team!
  • Dortmund lost their last BL home game to Schalke (1-2) and have since won all three of their games in all competitions (2-1 v Real in the Champions League, 2-0 at Freiburg in the League and 4-0 at Aalen in the Cup). A win v Stuttgart would be their third within a week against a team from Germany's South Western province Baden-Württemberg.
  • Stuttgart have lost only one of their last seven BL games (three wins, three draws) and have won their last two away games in the league without conceding a goal.
  • Dortmund have fired 141 shots, only Bayern have fired more (172). Stuttgart, on the other hand, have faced the most shots on target (57).
  • Stuttgart's Vedad Ibisevic has ten goals in 13 games in all competitions this season (as for before the Cup game v St.Pauli). The Bosnian striker will now face his favourite opponent: He has scored six goals in six BL games against Dortmund!
  • Julian Schieber came to Stuttgart from Dortmund this summer. Last season, he scored twice in Stuttgart's BL visit to Dortmund (4-4, see above).
  • Marco Reus has contributed to more league goals than any other Dortmund player this season; four goals and three assists. All three of his assists have come via free-kicks.
  • Stuttgart director of sport Fredi Bobic used to play for both clubs : For Stuttgart from 1994 to 1999 (148 BL games, 69 goals), and for Dortmund from 1999 to 2001 (56 games, 17 goals).
  • Jürgen Klopp was born in Stuttgart on June 16 1967.

Borussia Mönchengladbach v SC Freiburg

  • Freiburg have won only one of their eleven BL visits to Gladbach (five draws, five losses) - 2-1 in April 1995.
  • Freiburg, however, have lost only one of the two teams' last seven meetings in all competitions (four wins, two draws) - 0-2 at Gladbach in May 2011.
  • Freiburg have drawn nine BL games against Gladbach - the most draws against any team in the top flight.
  • All three of Gladbach's BL wins this season have come on a weekend after they had played in European competition - before the game v Freiburg, both teams have Cup games in mid-week.
  • Gladbach have lost only one of their last seven BL home games (three wins, three draws) - 2-3 v Nürnberg in September. They have kept four clean sheets in those seven games.
  • Freiburg have won only one of their last six BL away games (two draws, three losses) - 2-0 at Wolfsburg in their last trip.
  • Freiburg have scored seven goals following set-piece situations, the most in the league. Gladbach, on the other hand, have conceded six goals that way (like Wolfsburg), only Hoffenheim more (nine).
  • Gladbach's 18 league goals conceded are second only to Hoffenheim's 20. Last season, Borussia conceded their 18th BL goal on MD27!
  • Freiburg have conceded only one BL goal this season to a striker, the fewest in the league. That goal was scored by Bremen's Joseph Akpala in a 1-2 home loss in September.
  • Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to make his 50th BL appearance (all for Gladbach). This season, his GAA is 1.8 pg - before this season, it had been 0.67!
  • At Hannover (3-2), Gladbach's Juan Arango became the first BL player this season to score his 2nd direct freekick goal. The Venezuelan has had a hand in seven of Gladbach's twelve league goals this season (three goals, four assists).

Hannover 96 v FC Augsburg

  • Augsburg and Hannover have met only four times in all competitions - last BL season and in 1982/83 in the Second League. All four of those meetings ended in draws.
  • Augsburg's only BL win this season was a 3-1 v Bremen on MD7, apart from that they have lost five and drawn three games.
  • Hannover are winless in four BL games now (one draw, three losses) - the last time this happened to them was between October 2011 and January of this year (eight games).
  • Augsburg have won only one of their last 16 away games in the league (2-1 at Wolfsburg in April), apart from that they recorded seven draws and eight losses. Having gained only two points away from home, they are the worst away team this BL season.
  • Overall, Augsburg have recorded only two away wins in the top flight, both of them last season (their first ever, 1-0 at Mainz and 2-1 at Wolfsburg). Apart from that, they have drawn nine BL games and lost ten on foreign soil.
  • For the first time in Augsburg's short BL history, they have recorded two clean sheets in a row on foreign soil (0-0 at Hoffenheim as well as at Nürnberg).
  • Hannover currently rank tenth in the table, their worst ranking since MD11 of 2010/11 - it was also tenth place then.
  • Augsburg have scored only five league goals this season, the fewest of all teams.
  • While Augsburg's shot conversion rate of 6.1% is the worst in the league, Hannover's (22.8%) is the best.
  • Hannover's nine BL games this season have seen a total of 34 goals scored - an average of 3.8. Augsburg's games, on the other hand, have seen the fewest (18, an average of two).
  • No team has lost more points from leading positions than Hannover (eight, like Freiburg). Augsburg, on the other hand, have yet to gain a point from losing positions (like Nürnberg and Hamburg).
  • Hannover's Szabolcs Huszti has had a hand in ten BL goals (three goals, seven assists), only Bayern's Thomas Müller has contributed more (six goals, five assists). The Hungarian has dished out the most assists of all players, but hasn't had a hand in a goal in his last four BL games.

1. FC Nürnberg v VfL Wolfsburg

  • In the two teams' BL record against each other, Nürnberg have the upper hand with nine wins (six losses, five draws). Wolfsburg, however, won both meetings last season (3-1 A, 2-1 H).
  • Ambitious Wolfsburg have gained only eight points from the first nine games, equaling their worst record since 1998/99. Wolfsburg finished that season ranked sixth, qualifying for the following season's UEFA Cup competition.
  • Nürnberg (ranked 15th) as well as Wolfsburg (16th) are only two points away from last place in the table.
  • Nürnberg have gone winless in six BL games now - their last victory was a 3-2 at Gladbach on MD3. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, have won only one of their last eight (two draws, five losses) - the latest at Düsseldorf (4-1).
  • Wolfsburg have gained seven of their eight points this season away from home. They have also scored five of their six goals in away games.
  • Nürnberg, on the other hand, have gained only two of their eight points at home.
  • Nürnberg have gone scoreless for four games and more than six hours now. The last time this happened to them was in 2009/10 (five games), and then-manager Michael Oenning got the sack after the fourth of those games.
  • Nürnberg lack a goal scoring threat: All nine of the team's goals in all competitions have been scored by different players.
  • Last time out at Düsseldorf, Diego had a hand in a goal for the first time this BL season - he scored one himself and assisted another one.
  • New Wolfsburg manager Lorenz-Günther has the best points average of all Wolves managers in BL history (former manager Magath had recorded an average of 1.55 in his two tenures, the first of which culminated in the club's first ever Championship).
  • Wolfsburg's Jan Polak used to play for Nürnberg (2005 to 2007), while Nürnberg's Alexander Esswein played for Wolfsburg from 2008 to 2010. Sebastian Polter is out on loan from Wolfsburg to Nürnberg.

1899 Hoffenheim v FC Schalke 04

  • Hoffenheim are unbeaten at home against Schalke in all competitions (one win, three draws, all BL). Last season's duel in Sinsheim ended 1-1.
  • Hoffenheim are enduring their worst ever BL season having gained only eight points from the first nine games - their previous low had been 13 points.
  • Schalke's record of 20 points is their second best after nine games - their best (24 in 1971/72) led them to a second-place finish.
  • Hoffenheim have conceded the most goals in the league (20) and have got the worst goalkeeper (Tim Wiese, 43.3% save percentage).
  • Nine of Hoffenheim's 20 goals conceded have come from set-piece situations, the most in the league.
  • Schalke have lost only one of their last twelve league games (eight wins, three draws) - 0-2 v Bayern on MD4.
  • Schalke have scored at least once in 19 of their last 20 BL games (42 overall), and at least twice in each of their last five away games.
  • Hoffenheim have won only one of their last six home games (two draws, three losses) - 3-1 v Hannover on MD4.
  • With new signing Tim Wiese in goal, Hoffenheim have neither won a game in all competitions (one draw, five losses) nor kept a clean sheet (3.5 goals conceded on average).
  • Hoffenheim manager Markus Babbel and Schalke director of sport Horst Heldt used to play for Stuttgart together (2004 to 2006). During Babbel's tenure as Stuttgart manager (November 2008 to December 2009), Heldt was director of sport before becoming a member of the executive board of the club.
  • Hoffenheim director of sport Andreas Müller used to play for Schalke (1988 to 2000) and also was director of sport for the Royal Blues (2006 to 2009). He won the UEFA Cup in 1997 in current manager Huub Stevens's first tenure as Schalke manager.

Hamburger SV v FC Bayern München

  • Hamburg are unbeaten v Bayern at home in the top flight in their last five games, and in almost six years (two wins, three draws). Their last home loss against Bayern was a 1-2 in November 2006.
  • Bayern have scored a total of only one goal in their last four away games v HSV.
  • Bayern's current BL away record of four wins in four games, twelve goals scored and none conceded is the best ever in the German top flight at this time of the season.
  • Only once have Bayern scored more than their current total of 27 goals in their first nine BL games of a season - in 1976/77 they had 29, but ended that season ranked only seventh in the table.
  • Hamburg have conceded only one goal in their last four BL games - Vedad Ibisevic's goal in a 0-1 loss against Stuttgart.
  • At least one of Rafael van der Vaart (one goal, four assists), Art­joms Rudnevs (three goals, two assists) or Heung-Min Son (five goals) has had a hand in each of their team's eleven goals this BL season.
  • Bayern's Mario Mandzukic has scored the most goals in the league (eight) as well as the most headed goals (four).
  • This is a meeting of the two best goalkeepers of this BL season: Bayern's Manuel Neuer has a save percentage of 81%, while Hamburg's Rene Adler has 79%. Adler was also Neuer's predecessor as the number one goalkeeper of the national team.
  • Bayern's Claudio Pizarro has scored 14 BL goals in 20 games v Hamburg - the most goals he has scored against any team in the top flight.
  • Hamburg manager Thorsten Fink used to play for Bayern, appearing in 150 BL games (four goals) between 1997 and 2003. In 2001, he won the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup; he also was a member of four Championship-winning teams and three Cup-winning teams for Bayern.
  • Jupp Heynckes hasn't lost a BL game to Hamburg in more than 21 years - his last loss against HSV was a 0-1 in September 1991 in his first tenure as a Bayern manager. Since then, he has recorded five wins and five draws with different teams.

Bayer Leverkusen v Fortuna Düsseldorf

  • Düsseldorf have won only one of their 13 BL visits to nearby Leverkusen (seven draws, five losses) - that was their last in August 1996 (1-0).
  • None of the two teams' last nine meetings has seen a total of more than two goals scored - overall, there were only 13 in those games.
  • Seven of the last ten BL meetings between the two teams have ended in draws (two Fortuna wins, one Bayer victory).
  • Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last seven home games in the league (four wins, three draws). The last time they had a longer run of this kind was between January and August 2011 (nine home games, seven wins, two draws).
  • Düsseldorf have lost only one of their last seven games away from home in all competitions (four wins, two draws) - 0-1 at Mainz on MD7.
  • Newly-promoted Düsseldorf, however, have lost their last three BL games and won only one of their last eight in the league (four draws, three losses).
  • On a Sunday, Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last five league games (two wins, three draws), with their last loss on that day of the week coming on MD 10 of last season (0-1 at Schalke on October 23 2011).
  • Bayer have lost only one of their last ten BL games against newly-promoted teams (seven wins, two draws) - 1-2 at Frankfurt on MD1 of this season.
  • Kießling has scored 19 BL goals in the year 2012, more than anybody else. He has also netted four of Bayer's last six goals. Only one of Kießling's last nine goals have come at home, however (in a 2-2 vs Mainz in Bayer's last home game).
  • Andriy Voronin played for Bayer from 2004 to 2007, scoring 31 BL goals in 92 games.

Werder Bremen v 1. FSV Mainz 05

  • Bremen have lost only two of their last eleven BL games against Mainz (seven wins, two draws), but those two were the last two at home (0-2 in September 2010 and 0-3 in March of this year).
  • Those two wins at Bremen were Mainz' only victories in their last 21 trips in the top flight (eleven draws, eight losses).
  • In their BL history, Werder have scored a total of 2,799 goals and are thus set to become the second team after Bayern to reach the 2,800 mark.
  • In the year 2012, Werder have gained the fewest points of all BL teams (24 in 26 games, excluding relegated and newly-promoted teams). They are the only team with an average of less than 1 ppg (with 0.92).
  • Mainz are unbeaten in their last four BL games (three wins, one draw) and have the best record of all teams in the top flight in that timespan (ten points, +six goal difference).

  • Young v old: Bremen's roster is the league's youngest (average age: 23.1 years), while Mainz' is the oldest (26.9).
  • Last season's BL team with the most points lost after taking the lead (28), Mainz have squandered only two points from five leads this season.
  • Mainz new signing Ivan Klasnic played for Werder from 2001 to 2008, scoring 49 goals in 151 BL games and winning the Championship and the Cup in 2004.
  • Mainz' Adam Szalai scored all three goals in his team's 3-0 v Hoffenheim last time out, recording his first multi-goal game in the German top flight, and only the second hat-trick ever by a Mainz player.
