Bundesliga Opta Facts - 20-22 March

Sport-Club Freiburg v FC Augsburg

  • FCA have won each of their last three Bundesliga games against Freiburg. Augsburg didn't pick up a single victory from their first four top-flight meetings with SCF (D2, L2).
  • The last meeting in Freiburg saw Augsburg beat SCF away from home for the first time in a competitive game (4-2) - FCA lost their previous eight games there, with a 0-13 goal record.
  • SCF's 3-0 loss in Wolfsburg was their third straight defeat - only newly promoted Paderborn have also failed to register a point in their last three games. Freiburg have never lost four successive Bundesliga matches under Christian Streich.
  • Sixth-placed Augsburg have already suffered 11 defeats in the Bundesliga this season - as many as second-bottom Freiburg. FCA's tally of eight losses away from home is even a league high.
  • Augsburg have failed to score in six of their 12 away games this season - only Hamburg (6) have netted fewer goals on the road than FCA (8, the same as Paderborn), who have lost three of their last four Bundesliga away matches (W1).
  • Freiburg have gone three Bundesliga games or 335 minutes of Bundesliga football without scoring, something they last did in December 2013 (also 3 games). The last time the Breisgau club went longer without finding the net was in the middle of the 2009/10 season (4 games).
  • SCF have won just one of their last seven games at home (D3, L3) - a 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 18. Only Stuttgart (6) have picked up fewer points on home soil than Freiburg (12, the same as Köln).
  • FCA have 38 points on the board after 25 games - they've never had more at this stage of a top-flight campaign before. Augsburg have been in a European spot on each of the last 14 matchdays.
  • Since joining Augsburg in summer 2013, Halil Altintop has scored one goal in each of his three Bundesliga meetings with SCF. FCA have never beaten Freiburg without him.
  • Oliver Sorg could make his 100th top-flight appearance in the game against Augsburg - all 99 of his games so far have come in SCF colours (3 goals). Sorg made his Bundesliga debut in Freiburg's 1-0 win over FCA on 21st January 2012.

Hamburger SV v Hertha BSC

  • Hertha have won each of their last three games against HSV. The previous five meetings between the sides produced three Hamburg wins and two draws.
  • Berlin are unbeaten in their last three games (W1, D2), their longest run in around a year. The last time they went longer than three Bundesliga matches without losing was in late 2013 (4 games between November and December).
  • HSV haven't lost any of their last three home games (W1, D2) and have recently picked up points at home against top sides Gladbach (1-1 draw) and Dortmund (0-0 draw).
  • Hertha are the second-worst away team in the league, having picked up nine points from 12 games (the same as Hamburg, who have a worse goal difference). Berlin, however, are more prolific in front of goal on the road (16 goals scored) than they are at home (14).
  • Only Hannover and Stuttgart (both 9 games) are on longer winless runs than HSV (5 games). Hamburg went six games without winning at the start of the season - the latter three came after Josef Zinnbauer had taken charge.
  • Hamburg's tally of 16 goals scored is the lowest after 25 games in their Bundesliga history (previously always at least 22 goals). The northern club have failed to find the net in 14 matches this season - they have never gone without scoring in more than 14 games in an entire Bundesliga campaign before.
  • Jaroslav Drobny is suspended for the meeting with his former club Hertha. The Czech keeper was sent off for the first time in the Bundesliga in what was his 180th appearance - Rene Adler was then subbed on for the first time in top flight in what was his 203rd Bundesliga game.
  • HSV have lost seven of their last eight Bundesliga games with Adler in goal and have kept just one clean sheet in their last 15 games with him (0-0 draw in Cologne on matchday 1 this season).
  • Änis Ben-Hatira was at HSV between 2006 and 2011 (also on loan at Duisburg during this time) and made 29 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg (3 goals). He scored twice against his ex-club in Hertha's 3-0 win earlier this season.
  • HSV's Ivica Olic, Gojko Kacar and Pierre-Michel Lasogga also come up against their former club - the same goes for Hertha's Per Skjelbred and Sebastian Langkamp.

Hannover 96 v Borussia Dortmund

  • There has never been a goalless draw in the 47 Bundesliga meetings between the two sides. BVB (22) have won twice as many of those top-flight games as Hannover (11).
  • Dortmund have scored at least one goal in each of their last 20 league games in Hannover - the last time they didn't was in a 2-0 loss in August 1966.
  • The match in Hannover could see BVB become the fifth club in Bundesliga history to record 700 wins, while the Lower Saxony club are on the brink of their 200th home victory.
  • Hannover 96 haven't won any of their last nine league games (D4, L5) - their longest winless run since 2009/10 (13 games).
  • Jürgen Klopp's side are unbeaten in their last six games (W4, D2) and have picked up as many points since the winter break as they did in the entire first half of the season (15).
  • The meeting with Köln saw BVB fail to score in a game for the 10th time this season - a first after 25 matchdays in Dortmund's Bundesliga history.
  • 96 have scored just 27 goals this season - the only time their tally was lower at this stage was in their 1988/89 relegation campaign (21).
  • Dortmund have the second-best defence in the second half of the season (5 goals conceded) - only Gladbach have let in fewer goals in 2015 (4). BVB have kept three straight Bundesliga clean sheets for the first time in over three years (second half of 2011/12).
  • Ron-Robert Zieler is the only Bundesliga player not to have missed a minute of the last 133 matchdays (almost 4 seasons). The last game he didn't play the full 90 in was a 4-1 loss in Dortmund on matchday 28 of the 2010/11 campaign.
  • Shinji Kagawa, who has now been waiting 1,173 minutes for a Bundesliga goal, has scored once in each of his two previous away games against Hannover.
  • Sebastian Kehl made his professional debut in Hannover colours in August 1998. The veteran played for the Lower Saxony club between 1996 and 2000 (32 second-division games, 2 goals).

1. FC Köln v SV Werder Bremen

  • The Bundesliga head-to-head record between Köln and Bremen is completely even. Both clubs have won 33 times in 85 meetings (19 draws).
  • Werder last took all three points home from Cologne over nine years ago - Bremen won 4-1 back in December 2005. SVW have faced Köln in four Bundesliga away games since, picking up just two points.
  • The last time that Köln lost a Bundesliga game after being two goals in front was a 3-2 defeat in Bremen on 5th November 2011.
  • The day after Werder's 1-0 loss in the meeting earlier this season, a result which left them without a win after the first nine games of the season (a club record), Robin Dutt had to clear his desk and former Bremen player Viktor Skripnik took charge.
  • Bremen have lost just two of their last nine league games, with both defeats coming against the Bundesliga's current top two: 4-0 against league leaders Bayern and 5-3 against second-placed Wolfsburg.
  • Köln are unbeaten in their last five home games (4 draws and most recently 1 win). The last time the Billy Goats went longer without losing on home soil in the top-flight was in 2010/11, when they went eight successive games without suffering a defeat (W7, D1).
  • Werder haven't scored a second-half goal in any of their last three Bundesliga games. They have netted just one in their last six matches.
  • 24% of Köln's goals have come from long range, a league high. Werder have let in nine goals from distance, also a league high.
  • Franco Di Santo was suspended for the Bayern game but is now available again. The striker has had a hand in half of Bremen's 14 goals since the winter break (6 goals + 1 assist).
  • Köln's Kevin Wimmer has served his suspension after being sent off on matchday 24. He hadn't missed a minute of the Bundesliga season prior to that.

1. FSV Mainz 05 v VfL Wolfsburg

  • Wolfsburg lead the head-to-head between these two sides after 17 Bundesliga meetings, with eight wins to Mainz's five (4 draws). VfL have won each of the last two encounters 3-0 and have also come out on top in four of their last eight games in Mainz (D2, L2).
  • Nevertheless, Mainz have put 28 Bundesliga goals past Wolfsburg, their best record against any top-flight team.
  • With 53 points and a +28 goal difference, Wolfsburg are the best second-placed side after 25 games since the introduction of the three-points-per-win system (1995/96).
  • FSV have picked up seven points from four matches under Martin Schmidt and have won half as many games in that timeframe (2) as they did under Kasper Hjulmand (4 of 21).
  • Wolfsburg are having their best ever Bundesliga season - they even had five points fewer after 25 games in their 2008/09 title-winning campaign (48).
  • 11 of the last 14 Mainz goals have come in the second half. On top of that, FSV are strong towards the end of both halves: The 05ers have scored 18 of their 34 goals in the 15 minutes before either half time or full time.
  • VfL have won eight of their last nine Sunday games (1 draw) and have lost just one of the last 19 (W13, D5) - a 6-2 defeat in Hoffenheim in March 2014.
  • With 10 goals to his name, Shinji Okazaki is FSV's top Bundesliga scorer this season and has netted once on each of the last two matchdays. He previously suffered his longest goal drought in Mainz colours, failing to score in eight consecutive top-flight games.
  • With nine goals and 16 assists, Kevin De Bruyne has been involved in more goals than any other player.
  • Andre Schürrle wore Mainz colours between 2006 and 2011. He became a Germany international in 2010 while at HSV and scored 15 Bundesliga goals in 2010/11. Only Shinji Okazaki has scored as many goals in a top-flight campaign for the 05ers (2013/14).
  • Ja-Cheol Koo made 32 Bundesliga appearances for VfL, before joining Mainz in January 2014.

FC Bayern Munich v Borussia Mönchengladbach

  • The Foals don't like travelling to Munich: Borussia have recorded just two wins from their 46 Bundesliga games away to FC Bayern (in 1995 and 2011 - otherwise D10, L34).
  • However, the record champions have only won the most recent of their last three games against Gladbach in the Allianz Arena - a 3-1 victory in August 2013 (otherwise D1, L1).
  • Only Bayern and Wolfsburg (19 each) have picked up more points in the second half of the season than Gladbach (17). Borussia haven't collected more points in their first eight games after the winter break since the three-points-per-win rule was introduced.
  • Bayern (11) and Gladbach (20) have conceded the fewest goals this season. The Foals have the league's best defence since the winter break (4 goals conceded).
  • Bayern and Gladbach don't just play the most passes in the Bundesliga, but they also have the best pass accuracy (FCB: 87.4%, BMG: 82.4%).
  • Borussia have recorded just one win from their last eight Bundesliga away games - a 1-0 victory over last-placed Stuttgart (otherwise D3, L4).
  • FC Bayern have been in imperious form at the Allianz Arena this season, only dropping points there against Schalke (1-1 draw) - they have recorded victory in all 16 of their other competitive games in Munich.
  • Thomas Müller has had a hand in nine goals in his last five league games (5 goals + 4 assists). The Germany international is just one goal shy of equalling his personal best for a Bundesliga season (13 goals, most recently in 2013/14).
  • The game against Gladbach will be Pep Guardiola's 60th Bundesliga game in the Bayern dugout and he could record his 50th win (D7, L3) - his first Bundesliga victory came in a meeting with Borussia (3-1).
  • Dante comes up against his former teammates. The Brazilian wore Gladbach colours for three and a half years (93 Bundesliga games, 8 goals).
  • Proportionally speaking, Manuel Neuer (81.0%) and Yann Sommer (82.8%) have made the most saves in the Bundesliga this season.

SC Paderborn 07 v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

  • Hoffenheim have won all three of their competitive games against Paderborn without conceding a single goal. TSG won their two meetings with SCP in the 2007/08 second-division campaign (2-0 A, 1-0 H), and Kevin Volland's goal ensured a 1-0 Hoffenheim victory earlier this season.
  • Paderborn have lost each of their last four league games. They have also won just one of their last 15 matches (D5, L9). Only Stuttgart and Hannover have picked up fewer points in the second half of the season (3 each) than SCP (4).
  • TSG have recently picked up 10 of a possible 15 points, with their only defeat in that timeframe a 3-1 loss away to Schalke. However, Hoffenheim still haven't recorded back-to-back Bundesliga wins this season. They last did so within a single campaign in March 2014.
  • Paderborn have scored the fewest goals in the league since the winter break (2) and have failed to find the back of the net in seven of their eight games in 2015. No other side has remained goalless in more than five matches (Freiburg and Stuttgart).
  • The promoted side have conceded the most goals in the second half of the season by far (24) - no other team has let in more than 17 (HSV). SCP have only shipped two goals fewer in their eight games in 2015 than in the entire first half of the campaign (26).
  • Never before has a top-flight side had a goal difference of -22 from their first 8 games in the second half of the season as SCP do at present (2 scored, 24 conceded).
  • Hoffenheim have been seventh since matchday 15 and are just two points adrift of the European spot of sixth (Augsburg). That gap was six points after 20 games.
  • Hoffenheim have won just one of their last 10 Bundesliga away games. They ended the first half of the season with a 5-0 triumph in Berlin, but have collected just three points from their other nine matches on the road in that timeframe (6 defeats).
  • Kevin Volland has had a hand in a goal in each of his last six competitive games (4 goals + 2 assists), a first for him at TSG. Eugen Polanski has scored four goals in his last four matches in all competitions.
  • On-loan Paderborn striker Srdjan Lakic spent the second half of 2011/12 at TSG. He didn't have a hand in a single goal in seven Bundesliga appearances though. Lakic has played Hoffenheim four times in the Bundesliga and has failed to record a single goal or win (D1, L3).

FC Schalke 04 v Bayer 04 Leverkusen

  • This will be the 62nd Bundesliga meeting between Schalke and Leverkusen. The Royal Blues' record leaves a lot to be desired: S04 have only won 16 games against Bayer 04, drawing 18 and losing 27.
  • Schalke have won just one of their last five Bundesliga games (D2, L2) - they beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3-1 in their most recent home fixture.
  • Bayer 04 have won three straight Bundesliga games for the first time this season - and therefore for the first time under Roger Schmidt - and they've done it without conceding a single goal.
  • Leverkusen have let in just one goal in their last six competitive games, but that goal led to them being knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid (1-0 loss a.e.t. - Atletico won 3-2 on penalties).
  • S04 are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga games in the Veltins Arena (W3, D2) and have lost just one of their 13 matches on home soil this season (2-1 to Köln on matchday 15).
  • Schalke captain Benedikt Höwedes picked up his fifth yellow card of the season on the last matchday in Berlin and so is suspended against Bayer 04.
  • Timon Wellenreuther has made four mistakes that have led to goals in his seven Bundesliga games (including 2 recently in Berlin) - only Werder keeper Raphael Wolf has made more (5).
  • Both Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting haven't yet found the back of the net in the Bundesliga in 2015.
  • Leroy Sane has scored one goal in each of his last two competitive games, against Real Madrid and Hertha BSC. The son of Souleyman Sane was part of the Leverkusen youth setup between 2008 and 2011 (won a regional championship with them in 2010).
  • Roberto Di Matteo suffered his first defeat as Schalke boss in the meeting earlier this season (1-0, goal by Hakan Calhanoglu directly from a free kick) in what was his third game in charge - he had previously won two home matches against Hertha (2-0) and Sporting (4-3).

VfB Stuttgart v Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Frankfurt have won just two of their last 15 Bundesliga games against VfB (D3, L10) and haven't kept a clean sheet in any of those fixtures.
  • Stuttgart have been bottom of the table for the last six matchdays and with 20 points after 25 games, they are having their worst ever Bundesliga season.
  • VfB haven't won any of their last nine games (D4, L5) - their last victory was a 1-0 win away at HSV on matchday 16. Only Hannover have been waiting as long for a top-flight win.
  • With six points from 12 games, Stuttgart are the worst home side in the league. They have failed to score in nine of their 12 matches on home soil - only two sides have remained goalless in more home games within a Bundesliga season: Tasmania Berlin in 1965/66 (11 times) and Fürth in 2012/13 (10 times).
  • When converted to the three-points-per-win system, VfB have always collected at least 19 points at home in a Bundesliga campaign (2013/14 and 2012/13) - to do that this season though, they would have to record four wins and one draw from their five remaining home games!
  • The worst home side in the league has been relegated in each of the last 16 Bundesliga campaigns. The last team to stay up despite having the worst home record was HSV in 1997/98.
  • Frankfurt haven't won any of their last six away games (D2, L4). Their last victory on the road was a 3-1 win in Mönchengladbach on Matchday 12.
  • Alexander Meier, who tops the goalscoring charts with 19 goals, has scored more goals away from home (7) than VfB have in their own stadium (6).
  • Nelson Valdez made his Bundesliga comeback from a cruciate ligament injury in Paderborn. He made it 4-0 to Eintracht shortly after coming on, his first BL goal since April 2010 (for Dortmund in a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim).
  • In Thomas Schaaf (504 Bundesliga games as a manager) and Huub Stevens (359), the two coaches with the most Bundesliga experience go head-to-head in this match.
  • Stevens is unbeaten in his last six home games against Frankfurt as a manager (W4, D2). The only home fixture against Eintracht that he has lost was his first one (3-2 defeat with Schalke 04 in May 1999).
