Bundesliga Opta Facts | 3 May

Eintracht Braunschweig v FC Augsburg

  • Braunschweig are still without a win against Augsburg. They have lost three of their five competitive meetings with them (2 draws), scoring just two goals in the process. FCA's 4-1 win earlier this season was the first time they had scored four goals in a Bundesliga game.
  • The side that has been bottom of the table during the winter break has avoided relegation in three of the last five Bundesliga campaigns (Freiburg in 2011/12 and Mönchengladbach twice).
  • However, of the 37 Bundesliga clubs that have had 25 points or fewer after 32 games, only one has survived: FC Homburg (23 points after 32 games) beat FC St. Pauli in the relegation play-off in 1986/87.
  • Braunschweig would be relegated on matchday 33 if Hamburg win and Eintracht fail to collect three points. A Nürnberg win would also spell the end for Braunschweig should they lose.
  • Eintracht have only lost one of their last six home games (W3, D2) - a 2-0 loss to Bayern. The Lions have collected 18 of their 25 points this season in their own stadium.
  • Braunschweig have scored the fewest goals in the league (28), while Augsburg have scored the fewest goals of the sides in the top half of the table (44). Eintracht have lost each of their last three games 2-0 and have failed to score in three successive games for the first time since the end of 2013.
  • In Matthias Henn, Dennis Kruppke, Damir Vrancic and Marco Caligiuri, Braunschweig have four players that have already experienced Bundesliga relegation. Timo Perthel (2012 with Rostock, 2013 with Duisburg) could suffer a third successive relegation.
  • Andre Hahn (11), Halil Altintop (10) and Tobias Werner (9) have scored more goals between them than Eintracht's entire squad (28).
  • Torsten Oehrl was an FCA player for three years (2010-2013) and was promoted to the Bundesliga with Augsburg in the summer of 2011. After 43 Bundesliga appearances (5 goals) for FCA, he joined Eintracht in summer 2013.
  • Never before has an Augsburg player scored as many goals (11), been involved in as many goals (17) or receive as many yellow cards (10) in a Bundesliga season than Hahn before.

SV Werder Bremen v Hertha BSC

  • Hertha have won their last two matches against Bremen, having previously suffered eight defeats in nine meetings with Werder (otherwise 1 other win in April 2009).
  • Bremen have won each of their last five home matches against Berlin. Hertha's last victory in the Weserstadion dates back to March 11th 2006 (3-0).
  • Bayern (33) are the only side Hertha have suffered more Bundesliga defeats against than they have against Bremen (31). Werder are also the side Berlin have suffered the second-most away defeats to (22) - they have lost in Munich 23 times.
  • Bremen may have only lost one of their last six home games (3-1 to Wolfsburg on matchday 27), but they are also one of just three teams, alongside Hamburg and Nürnberg, that have failed to record back-to-back home wins this season.
  • After going nine games without a victory (D4, L5), Hertha got back to winning ways on the last matchday, beating Braunschweig 2-0. However, only HSV (11) have collected fewer points in the second half of the season than Hertha (13).
  • Hertha have collected just two points from their last five away games. However, Berlin were third in the away table after matchday 22.
  • Bremen conceded five or more goals in a game for the third time this season in the match against Bayern - a league high together with Hamburger SV. This has only happened once before in Werder's Bundesliga history - in their relegation season of 1979/80 (7 times).
  • Berlin have only scored six goals in their last 10 games - no other side has scored as few goals in that timeframe. During the game against Braunschweig, Hertha scored two goals in one match for the first time since matchday 22.
  • Werder's last three goals have come from counterattacks. Only Leverkusen (5) have scored more goals on the break in the second half of the season than Werder (4), although only Hoffenheim (7) have conceded more goals from counters than Hertha (4) in that timeframe.
  • Peter Niemeyer made 32 Bundesliga appearances for Bremen from 2007-10 (2 goals). Sandro Wagner scored five goals in 30 Bundesliga games for Werder (2010-12). Bremen's Richard Strebinger and Assani Lukimya used to be Hertha youth players.

Borussia Dortmund v 1899 Hoffenheim

  • Hoffenheim are the only current Bundesliga side that Dortmund don't have a positive home record against (W1, D3, L1).
  • Dortmund will finish a Bundesliga in one of the top two spots for the fourth time in a row, something they've never done before. Schalke will finish below Dortmund for the fourth time in a row.
  • Borussia are unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga games (W5, D2), currently the longest run of its kind in the league. However, four of BVB's last five Bundesliga defeats have come at home.
  • Hoffenheim have won just one of their last nine away games (D4, L4): A 3-2 victory in Leverkusen on matchday 26.
  • Hoffenheim have failed to keep a clean sheet away from home in almost 14 months (3-0 win at Greuther Fürth on March 9th 2013). Since then, they have conceded 49 goals in 21 away matches, an average of 2.3 per game.
  • Klopp's side have collected one point more on the road (33) than they have at home (32). The last time BVB ended a season with more success away from home was in 1999/2000, when they collected 19 points at home and 21 away - they finished that campaign in 11th.
  • Hoffenheim saved themselves from relegation on matchday 34 last season, winning 2-1 in Dortmund to secure a place in the relegation play-offs (16th), where they were able to overcome Kaiserslautern.
  • Marco Reus has been involved in 16 of BVB's last 19 goals in all competitions (84%), scoring 10 himself (6 assists). On top of that, Reus has been involved in two goals in each of his last six competitive matches.
  • This match is a meeting between the Bundesliga's top three points-scorers (goals + assists): Marco Reus (28 scorer-points), Robert Firmino (25) and Robert Lewandowski (24). Reus (12 assists) and Firmino (11) are also the league's top assist providers.
  • Four of the league's five most regular shooters could feature in this fixture: Robert Lewandowski (109 shots) and Marco Reus (105) hold the top two spots. Roberto Firmino (88) and Kevin Volland (85) follow the soon-to-be Dortmund player Adrian Ramos (90).

Eintracht Frankfurt v Bayer 04 Leverkusen

  • This is the 58th Bundesliga meeting between Frankfurt and Leverkusen - this fixture has never ended goalless (an average of 3.1 goals per game).
  • With a nine-point lead over the relegation play-off place, Eintracht Frankfurt can now start planning for a third successive Bundesliga season.
  • Bayer 04 Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last 11 Bundesliga games under Sascha Lewandowski (W8, D3).
  • Eintracht have already collected six points more in the second half of the season (21) than they did in the whole of the first half (15). It's the first time since 2003/04 that Frankfurt have been better after the winter break in a Bundesliga campaign.
  • Leverkusen haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last 12 Bundesliga games - the last time Bayer 04 went longer without one was in 2008/09 (a run of 14 games).
  • Kevin Trapp has saved three penalties this season (against Hunt, Huntelaar and Roberto Firmino), while Ibisevic put his penalty against Trapp wide. Only Bernd Leno has saved more penalties in the league this season (5).
  • Stefan Kießling is the only Bundesliga player to have featured in each of the last 118 matchdays - he is out for the rest of the season though after suffering a muscle tear in his left thigh.
  • Marco Russ' last Bundesliga goal came against Leverkusen - he headed in a 61st-minute goal in Frankfurt's 1-0 win earlier this season.
  • Roberto Hilbert conceded a penalty for the fifth time this season on the last matchday - no other player in the league has conceded more than two. No player has reached this tally before in a Bundesliga season since Opta started collecting detailed statistics in 2004/05.
  • The Leverkusen game will be Armin Veh's final home match as Frankfurt manager - he has been at Eintracht since 2011, celebrated Bundesliga promotion with them in 2012 and also led the Eagles into Europe in the following campaign.
  • With an average of two points per game, Sascha Lewandowski is Leverkusen's best Bundesliga manager of all time (at least 9 games in charge required).

Freiburg v FC Schalke 04

  • Schalke have won five of the last seven meetings between these two sides (2 Freiburg wins), including the last two. On matchday 34 last season, Schalke secured fourth place after a 2-1 win in Freiburg. This time, S04 could wrap up third place.
  • Freiburg have only won one of their last five home games against Schalke (D1, L3).
  • FC Schalke 04 celebrates its 110th anniversary on the day after the match. The club was founded on May 4th 1904 under the name "Westfalia Schalke".
  • Freiburg have collected the most points from the last eight games (17, the same as Dortmund) and have scored the most goals (19). Their current ranking of 12th is their best of the season.
  • SCF have won their last four home games, something they last did between April and July 2001.
  • Freiburg have been 1-0 down at half time in each of their last two games but have gone on to win four points. SCF have collected 13 points from losing positions this season, the fifth-best amount in the league and more than they did in the whole of the last campaign (12).
  • Schalke have lost their last two games, a run they last suffered on matchdays 2 and 3. The last time they had a longer string of defeats was from April to August 2011 (5 defeats).
  • Julian Draxler can become the youngest player in Bundesliga history to make 100 appearances in the game against Freiburg (would be 20 years, 7 months and 13 days old). The current record holder is Charly Körbel (20 Y, 11M, 28D), who is the Bundesliga's record appearance holder with 602 top-flight games under his belt.
  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is set for his 100th Bundesliga game too (58 goals in 99 games). Freiburg's Karim Guede could also make his 50th appearance in Germany's top flight.
  • The Freiburg game will be Jens Keller's 50th as Schalke manager. Only Mirko Slomka (1.85) and Ralf Rangnick (1.82) have averaged more points per game than Keller (1.80; managers with at least 20 games in charge).
  • Admir Mehmedi scored his 12th goal of the season in the match against Augsburg. Only Uwe Spies (13, 1994/95), Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso (16, 1994/95) and Papiss Demba Cisse (22, 2010/11) have scored more goals in a Bundesliga season for Freiburg.

Borussia Mönchengladbach v 1. FSV Mainz 05

  • Gladbach haven't lost any of their last five Bundesliga games against Mainz and have collected 13 of a possible 15 points from those matches. FSV's last win against Borussia came in April 2011 (1-0 at home).
  • Mainz have lost their last three away matches, conceding an average of three goals per game in that timeframe. FSV's last six matches have alternated between home wins and away defeats.
  • Nine of Mainz's last 11 goals have come before half time - FSV have only scored 10 times before the break in their first 26 league games this season.
  • Gladbach only committed one foul against Schalke - that has never happened before in a Bundesliga game since Opta started collecting detailed statistics in 2004/05. That solitary foul was committed by Roel Brouwers in the 90th minute.
  • Mainz's tally of 11 clean sheets this season is only topped by Bayern (16) and Schalke (13).
  • Shinji Okazaki set a new record for Japanese players in the Bundesliga by scoring his 14th goal of the season last week against Nürnberg. 10 of his 14 goals have come away from home - only FCN's Josip Drmic has scored as often on the road this season.
  • Okazaki is the only Bundesliga player to have scored five braces this season. Four of them have come away from home - no one has ever scored at least two goals in five different away games within a Bundesliga season before.
  • Max Kruse has assisted 94 shots this season - no other league player has assisted more than 83. He has equalled his personal high from last season - Tiffert and Sahin in 2010/11 were the last players to have more (104 each).
  • Branimir Hrgota scored three goals in Gladbach's 4-2 win in Mainz on matchday 33 last season. He became the youngest Bundesliga player to score a hat-trick on their starting debut (20 years, 3 months and 29 days old back then).
  • Loris Karius has saved 88 shots in his 21 appearances this season, more than any other Bundesliga goalkeeper in that timeframe. Only Manuel Neuer and Ralf Fährmann (both 79.3%) have a better save percentage than Karius (76.6%, the same as Marc-Andre ter Stegen).

Hamburger SV v FC Bayern München

  • Hamburg have lost their last four competitive matches against FC Bayern with a goal record of 3:20. Their last win was a 1-0 victory in September 2009. Since then, HSV have recorded two draws and seven defeats in nine competitive meetings.
  • HSV have only collected four points from their last seven games and each of their last three matches have ended in defeat.
  • Hamburg are having the worst Bundesliga season in their history. Their lowest ever points tally (36, 2011/12) can no longer be reached. They have also never lost 19 games before - their previous record was 16 defeats within a season.
  • With 68 goals conceded, Hamburg have the league's leakiest defence and have already equalled their club record (68 goals conceded in 1987/88). Bayern have scored the most goals (89) and have conceded the fewest (22).
  • Of the 14 Bundesliga teams that have had exactly 27 points at this stage of the season, only one has avoided relegation - Hannover in 2009/10 under current HSV manager Mirko Slomka.
  • Bayern only need to score one goal in this game to match Bremen's record for the most away goals scored in a Bundesliga season, set in 2006/07 (43). FCB have currently scored 42 away goals (the same amount as last season).
  • With 21 Bundesliga goals from headers, Bayern have equalled the record tally since data collection began (2001/02) - it's a record they now share with Bochum (2003/04) and Schalke (2007/08).
  • Rene Adler has made mistakes leading to seven goals this season (most recently against Augsburg on the last matchday), a season high since Opta started collecting this statistic in 2007/08.
  • Manuel Neuer could make his 250th Bundesliga appearance, Dante his 150th and Diego Contento could play his 50th top-flight game.
  • Claudio Pizarro has scored 18 goals in 21 Bundesliga games against HSV. Against no other club has the striker scored anywhere near as often. However, he has only scored four of those 18 goals in Hamburg, with the last one coming in November 2006.

1. FC Nürnberg v Hannover 96

  • Nürnberg squandered a three-goal lead for the first time in their Bundesliga history during the meeting earlier this season (3-3 draw). As a result, Hannover are undefeated in their last six matches against FCN (W4, D2), who last beat 96 in December 2010 (3-1 at home).
  • The overall head-to-head record between these two teams in the Bundesliga is exactly level. Both have celebrated 11 wins, while there have been 13 draws. Even the goal record is equal: Nürnberg and Hannover have both netted 56 times in meetings between the two.
  • With a nine-point lead over 16th place, Hannover's Bundesliga status is secure. Nürnberg, on the other hand, still have a chance of finishing 15th, but are just one point behind HSV, who currently occupy the relegation play-off spot (16th).
  • If HSV beat Bayern and Nürnberg also lose to 96, then FCN would be relegated. If Hamburg win and Nürnberg only draw, survival would be mathematically possible.
  • Nürnberg have lost nine of their last 10 games (1 win), including each of the last five. The last time they had a run like that was in 2009/10 (November to January), with a longer string of defeats last coming 30 years ago (10 successive losses at the end of their relegation campaign in 1983/84).
  • Hannover have collected 10 points from eight away games under Tayfun Korkut (W3, D1, L4). That's as many as they collected in their last 24 away games under Korkut's predecessor Mirko Slomka (W3, D1, L20).
  • FCN have conceded 24 goals from set-pieces (league high). They only conceded 11 goals from dead-ball situations in the whole of last season.
  • Raphael Schäfer, once a Hannover youth player, could play his 250th Bundesliga game for 1. FC Nürnberg (plus 23 for Stuttgart in 2007/08). Only Thomas Brunner (328) and Andreas Köpke (280) have made more Bundesliga appearances for FCN.
  • Meanwhile, Hannover's Leon Andreasen could make his 100th Bundesliga appearance.
  • Nürnberg's Hanno Balitsch (2005-10, 150 Bundesliga games and 12 goals) and Emanuel Pogatetz (2010-12, 57 Bundesliga games and 1 goal) used to play for Hannover.
  • 96 will be without Marcelo (fifth yellow card) and Andre Hoffmann (red card) due to suspension.

VfB Stuttgart v VfL Wolfsburg

  • Stuttgart can secure their Bundesliga status with a win against Wolfsburg. However, VfB have lost their last three matches against VfL and have only recorded one win in their last seven meetings (D1, L5).
  • VfB have lost just one of their last 13 Bundesliga home games against the Wolves (W9, D3) - a 1-0 defeat in August 2012.
  • Stuttgart have collected eight points from their last four games (only BVB have collected more, 10) and have the best defensive record in that timeframe (2 goals conceded).
  • Wolfsburg have lost just one of their last eight Bundesliga matches (W4, D3) and will be back on the European stage next season for the first time since 2009/10 (in the Champions League back then).
  • VfB have already kept more clean sheets under Huub Stevens (3) than they did in their previous 24 league games this season (2).
  • Ricardo Rodriguez is one of two outfield players yet to miss a minute of the 2013/14 season. The Switzerland international has been involved in the most goals amongst defenders (5 goals, 8 assists).
  • Ivan Perisic has scored five goals in his last three games and has set a new personal season best with nine goals this campaign.
  • This will be Dieter Hecking's 50th Bundesliga game in the Wolfsburg dugout. He took over 15th-placed Wolfsburg during the 2012/13 winter break and they are currently fifth.
  • Daniel Didavi scored nine goals in 23 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2011/12 season under Dieter Hecking.
  • Christian Gentner played for VfL Wolfsburg between 2007 and 2010 and won the Bundesliga title with them win 2009, just like he did with Stuttgart in 2007.
