Bundesliga Opta Facts : Oct 3 - 5

Hertha BSC - VfB Stuttgart

  • The away team won the two meetings between these sides last season: VfB won 1-0 in the German capital on matchday 5 (goalscorer: Gentner), before Hertha claimed a 2-1 victory in Stuttgart on matchday 22 (goalscorers: Boka - Kobiashvili, Wagner).
  • With just one win, two draws and three defeats each, Hertha (14th) and Stuttgart (15th) currently find themselves in the bottom third of the BL standings.
  • Berlin have won just two of their 11 BL home games in 2014 (D3, L6). Their most recent home victory came on matchday 5, when Salomon Kalou's first goal in Germany's top flight ensured a 1-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg.
  • VfB have been waiting 13 BL games for an away win (D5, L8) - only HSV are currently on a longer streak without winning on the road (14 games). Stuttgart's last away win came in a 3-1 victory in Freiburg in November 2013.
  • The two worst tackling sides over the first six matchdays go head-to-head: Hertha have won just 47% of their challenges, while VfB have come out on top 48% of the time.
  • Daniel Schwaab ensured VfB's first win of the season on matchday 6 - it was his first BL goal in his 134th top-flight appearance! Prior to that, he had made the most appearances of all current BL outfield players without scoring.
  • Christian Gentner has assisted three of Stuttgart's four league goals this season - only Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne has assisted as many goals in the 2014/15 BL campaign.
  • Thorsten Kirschbaum, the new first-choice keeper at VfB, is still unbeaten after four Bundesliga appearances (W2, D2).
  • Armin Veh's then Frankfurt side lost 6-1 in Berlin on matchday 1 in 2013/14 - it is his second-biggest BL defeat to date.

FC Bayern München - Hannover 96

  • Bayern have won each of their last six competitive matches against Hannover, recording an impressive goal record of 23-3 in that timeframe.
  • Hannover have only recorded one win against Bayern in 25 Bundesliga away games (D2, L22) - 96 won 1-0 against Bayern in November 2006 thanks to Szabolcs Huszti's goal in Munich.
  • Table-toppers Bayern are already seven points clear of Dortmund. The record champions also had a seven-point gap after six games in 2012/13 and ended up 25 points clear of BVB by the end of the season - a Bundesliga record.
  • Bayern haven't lost any of their last 13 BL games during Oktoberfest (W10, D3). Their last defeat during the Bavarian festivities came on 3rd October 2010 in Dortmund (2-0).
  • FCB have conceded just twice this season and have gone 388 minutes without letting a BL goal in - the only time they have conceded fewer after six games was in 2011/12 (1, they have let in 2 goals 4 times before).
  • Hannover are still without an away win this season (1 point) and have failed to score on the road in their last three games on the road. 96 didn't get on the scoresheet in their first four away games in 2013/14 (as well as in 1971/72) - they have never gone longer without an away goal at the start of a season.
  • Pep Guardiola is the first Bayern manager to have celebrated his 50th win after 65 competitive games (2-0 against Köln). His 50th victory as FC Barcelona coach came in his 71st competitive fixture.
  • Xabi Alonso had over 200 touches of the ball in Cologne (216) - no other BL player has done the same since detailed statistics started being collected in 2004/05 for the BL.
  • With four goals to his name, Mario Götze is Bayern's top scorer in the Bundesliga. He had previously never reached that tally before matchday 12 (2011/12 and 2012/13).
  • The two managers Pep Guardiola and Tayfun Korkut were on opposing sides as players almost exactly 13 years ago: Pep's FC Barcelona beat Korkut's Real Sociedad 3-0. The 4-0 loss to Guardiola's Bayern in February is Korkut's biggest BL defeat as a coach.

Borussia Dortmund - Hamburger SV

  • Borussia Dortmund have lost three of their last four matches against HSV, conceding 12 goals in the process. Against no other Bundesliga side have BVB got a similarly worse record in that timeframe.
  • BVB hosted the side bottom of the table in their last home game too (2-2 draw with Stuttgart). Dortmund's most recent home defeat to a side last in the standings was almost 10 years ago - a 2-0 loss to HSV in October 2004.
  • HSV's first goal this season came on matchday 6 after 507 minutes of football, setting a new BL record. Their tally of just one goal after six games is also a new negative record.
  • Hamburger SV are without a win in 14 competitive fixtures (D5, L9), equalling their club record from the 2006/07 season.
  • BVB had the same points tally as they do at the moment (7) after six matchdays in 2011/12. They remained unbeaten for the rest of that campaign and ended up comfortably winning the title.
  • HSV have collected just two points from their last 14 BL away games - their last win on the road came at the end of October 2013 in Freiburg (3-0).
  • Borussia Dortmund have made the most errors leading to goal in this BL campaign (4). HSV made the most errors that led to goals last season (15).
  • Jürgen Klopp and HSV coach Josef Zinnbauer played together at Mainz 05 in the 1995/96 second-division campaign.
  • New HSV signings Lewis Holtby (for VfL Bochum in March 2010) and Nicolai Müller (for Mainz in September 2011) both scored their first Bundesliga goal against Borussia Dortmund.
  • Roman Weidenfeller has the second-worst save percentage this season (60.9%) - only Bremen's Raphael Wolf has been worse (54.5%). The World Champion has also kept out just one of the nine clear-cut chances he has faced.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen - SC Paderborn 07

  • This is the first ever competitive meeting between Leverkusen and Paderborn.
  • Paderborn had eight points on the board after four matchdays and were unbeaten at the top of the table. The newly promoted side since have slipped to 11th after back-to-beat defeats.
  • Bayer 04 haven't lost any of their last seven Bundesliga home games (W4, D3), scoring 15 goals in the process.
  • Leverkusen failed to score a BL goal for the first time under manager Roger Schmidt during the 0-0 draw in Freiburg. They had scored in 16 straight BL matches prior to that. Their tally of 11 goals scored this season remains a league high (together with FC Bayern).
  • Bayer 04 are unbeaten in their last 18 home matches against promoted sides (W16, D2). Their last defeat to a newly promoted club came in a 4-1 loss to Bochum in April 2007.
  • Leverkusen have hit the woodwork seven times in 2014/15 - a league high. No other side has hit the woodwork more than four times (Augsburg).
  • Roger Schmidt played for TuS Paderborn-Neuhaus from 1990-95 and also SC Paderborn 07 in 2002/03. He was the SCP coach in 2011/12 and led them to an impressive fifth-place finish in the second division, before joining Salzburg.
  • Moritz Stoppelkamp has had a hand in three of the last four SCP goals (2 goals, 1 assist), making him Paderborn's top points-scorer together with Uwe Hünemeier and Elias Kachunga.
  • Emir Spahic was sent off for two bookable offences after just 28 minutes in Freiburg and is unavailable against Paderborn. Two Leverkusen players have been sent off in the club's last three BL games - Giulio Donati was shown red after just seven minutes against Wolfsburg.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - FC Schalke 04

  • Hoffenheim are unbeaten at home against Schalke (W2, D4). There have been 11 goals in the two most recent meetings between the sides in Sinsheim (3-3 draw in September 2013 and a 3-2 win for TSG in November 2012).
  • TSG are unbeaten after six matchdays for the first time in their Bundesliga history (W2, D4). However, four of their last five games have ended in a draw.
  • Including last season, Hoffenheim are without a loss in their last seven BL games (W3, D4) and are on the brink of equalling their club record (8 straight games unbeaten between April and September 2010).
  • Hoffenheim are also unbeaten in their last seven BL games at home (W4, D3) and have in fact lost just one of the last 13 games in their own stadium (4-2 to Mainz in March; otherwise W7, D5).
  • After previously failing to win on the first four matchdays, Schalke have now secured back-to-back league victories, seeing them climb from 16th to 10th - their best position so far this season.
  • Hoffenheim's Kevin Volland has failed to score in the six BL games this season. The 22-year-old netted 11 times in 2013/14, with four of those goals coming in the first six matches.
  • Schalke goal-getter Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hasn't found the back of the net in 332 BL minutes. Since scoring on matchday 1 against Hannover, he has failed to find the target in four appearances. However, he did assist two goals in the 3-0 win over Bremen in his side's last away match.
  • Huntelaar has scored six goals in six BL games against TSG - he has only scored more top-flight goals against HSV (10 in 7 matches). ‘The Hunter' netted a hat-trick in Schalke's 4-0 win the most recent meeting between the sides (8th March 2014).
  • Julian Draxler is available again following his suspension. Schalke recorded their first two wins of the season on the past two BL matchdays without World Champions Draxler and Benedikt Höwedes in the squad.

SV Werder Bremen - Sport-Club Freiburg

  • Against no other Bundesliga team have Freiburg conceded more goals than they have against Bremen. In 30 meetings with Werder (W7, D4, L19), SCF have had to pick the ball out of their own net 74 times (an average of 2.5 goals conceded per game).
  • Winless sides go head-to-head: SV Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg are both still waiting for their first win of the season (the same as HSV). SVW are 17th with three points, one position below SCF (4 points).
  • If you exclude matchday 1, Bremen are in a direct relegation spot for the first time in almost 14 years. Werder were 17th after matchday 11 in November 2000.
  • 1970/71 was the only time that SVW have had fewer points after the first six matches (2) than they have at the moment (3). Bremen have never conceded more goals on the opening six BL matchdays than they have this season (15, as they have 3 times before).
  • Just like last season, Freiburg haven't won any of their opening six matches. Their first victory in 2013/14 came on matchday 11 (3-0 at Nürnberg). Including the last campaign, SCF are without a win in nine BL games (D5, L4).
  • Werder are without a win in seven games for the first time under manager Robin Dutt (D3, L4). That last happened for SVW at the end of the 2012/13 season (a run of 13 matches without a win).
  • Christian Streich is unbeaten in three BL meetings with Robin Dutt (W2, D1). Streich's Freiburg side beat Dutt's Leverkusen team 2-0 away from home on 31st March 2012. One day after the loss, Robin Dutt was relieved of his duties at Bayer 04.
  • With Pavel Krmas' red card in the 0-0 draw in Leverkusen, a Freiburg player was sent off for the second competitive game in a row. Vladimir Darida was shown a straight red in the 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim.
  • Bremen's Raphael Wolf has saved just 54.5% of the shots on his goal this season, the lowest rate of all regular goalkeepers in the league.

Eintracht Frankfurt - 1. FC Köln

  • Frankfurt have been waiting almost nine years for a BL win against Köln, ever since a 6-3 victory in October 2005. In seven top-flight meetings since then, there have been four draws and most recently three straight wins for the Billy Goats.
  • Frankfurt have only lost one of 31 games against Köln in which they have taken a 1-0 lead. That was a 2-1 away defeat in April 1991.
  • Köln have won just one of their nine Saturday evening matches in the Bundesliga (D3, L5) - a 3-0 victory over Bremen in January 2011. Their last three matches in that timeslot have seen them concede nine goals.
  • Including past campaigns, Köln have won just one of their last 10 away games in the Bundesliga (D2, L7) - the 2-0 victory in Stuttgart at the end of August.
  • In the history of the Bundesliga, only HSV's tally of one goal scored after six games this season is lower than Köln's haul of two at this stage of a campaign (the same as 11 other teams).
  • Köln's tally of just three goals conceded after six games is the second-best record in their BL history. They were only better in 1987/88, when they had let in just two goals after six matches and ended the campaign in third.
  • 1. FC Köln are the only side yet to score a second-half goal in the Bundesliga this season.
  • Frankfurt's tally of six goals scored before half time is a league best together with Bayern.
  • There have only been five goals scored in Köln's six games this season - a new Bundesliga low at this stage of a season.
  • Timothy Chandler is set for his 100th BL appearance. He played 95 top-flight games for 1. FC Nürnberg (4 goals) and has featured in four BL matches for Eintracht this season.
  • Thomas Schaaf has collected 22 of a possible 24 points in eight home games against Köln. He has lost just two of his 16 meetings in total with the Rhineland club (W10, D4).

VfL Wolfsburg - FC Augsburg

  • Augsburg will go into this meeting with their neighbours in the table full of confidence (FCA 8th, VfL 9th): Wolfsburg have never beaten FCA at home in the Bundesliga. They have recorded one defeat and most recently two draws.
  • Two of the league's top three tackling sides meet in this fixture: FCA are the best in the Bundesliga after the first six matchdays with a 53.4% tackle-success rate. VfL Wolfsburg are behind Dortmund (53.3%) having won 52.6% of their challenges.
  • Wolfsburg have already scored three goals in the opening 15 minutes of matches (league high together with Bayern) - Augsburg have already conceded three goals in that timeframe, with only Paderborn letting in more (4).
  • Including last season, VfL are unbeaten in eight BL home games (W5, D3). Their last home defeat came in March 2014 when they were thumped 6-1 by Bayern.
  • Wolfsburg have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 20 league games - a club record in the Bundesliga. On top of that, no side has been waiting longer than VfL for a clean sheet in the top flight.
  • However, the Wolves have scored in each of their last 16 home games. The last time the Lower Saxony club failed to find the back of the net at home was in October 2013 when they were beaten 2-0 at the Volkswagen Arena by Eintracht Braunschweig.
  • Ricardo Rodriguez is in scintillating form - The Swiss full back has had a hand in five of the Wolves' last seven competitive goals (4 goals, 1 assist).
Wolfsburg's Maximilian Arnold made his BL debut on matchday 14 of the 2011/12 season against Augsburg at the age of 17 years and 183 days, making him the youngest VfL player ever to feature in Germany's top flight.
  • VfL coach Dieter Hecking has faced FCA in eight competitive games as a manager (6 times in the BL, twice in the BL relegation play-off) and hasn't lost any of those matches (W4, D4). His sides have conceded just three goals in those eight games.

Borussia Mönchengladbach - 1. FSV Mainz 05

  • Mainz have collected just one point from their last six meetings with Gladbach (5 defeats), scoring just three goals to Borussia's 13 in the process. Mainz's last victory in this fixture was a 1-0 home win in April 2011.
  • Gladbach remained unbeaten in their first 10 competitive games of 2014/15 (W6, D3), something they last managed 39 years ago (1975/76). The last time then went on a longer run without a loss at the start of a season was in 1972/73 (11 competitive games).
  • For the second time in their BL history, 1. FSV Mainz 05 are unbeaten after six matchdays (W2, D4). The only previous occasion was in 2010/11, when they won each of their first seven games (finished in 5th).
  • This fixture between Gladbach and Mainz sees two of the four unbeaten teams in the BL this season go head-to-head (Bayern and Hoffenheim are the other sides without a loss).
  • Gladbach have conceded just three goals in 2014/15, giving them the second-best defence in the league together with Köln (Bayern 1st with 2 goals conceded). The Foals have thus equalled their club record from 1989/90 and 2011/12, having never let in fewer goals after six matchdays.
  • Mainz have also matched their club record in terms of defensive stability. They have conceded just five goals after six games, their lowest ever tally (also 5 in 2010/11).
  • New Gladbach signing Yann Sommer has the best save percentage in the league (89.7%, at least 2 appearances required). He has also made the most saves in the division (26).
  • With 30 top-flight goals to his name, Shinji Okazaki (Mainz) is the most prolific Japanese player in BL history and also leads the goalscoring charts this season with five league goals.
  • Branimir Hrgota could make his 50th BL appearances. None of his 49 so far have seen him play the full 90 minutes, something that's never happened before in Germany's top flight. His first ever BL start came in May 2013 against Mainz - he scored three goals in a 4-2 win.
