CSKA Moscow v Bayern Munich

This will be the third European meeting between these two sides, after they also met in the 2013-14 Champions League group stages.

Bayern won both games against CSKA last season, netting three goals on both occasions - 3-0 at home, 3-1 away.

Arjen Robben scored in both of Bayern Munich's Champions League meetings with CSKA Moscow last season.

Just four of the previous 20 Champions League meetings between Russian and German clubs have been won by the Russian side (W4 D3 L13). Three of these four victories have come in Russia.

CSKA Moscow have lost seven of their last eight Champions League matches (W1), including the last five in a row.

German champions Bayern have won just three of their last eight Champions League matches (W3 D2 L3).

BATE Borisov have lost all eight of their previous European encounters with Spanish sides, failing to score in six of these games.

Athletic Bilbao have won just one of their last 11 Champions League/European Cup matches (W1 D6 L4).

Athletic Bilbao have scored just one goal after half-time in their previous seven Champions League games.

Overall, BATE have won just two of their previous 19 Champions League games (D5 L12).

Maribor have scored only one goal in their four previous European games against German clubs (D2 L2).

Schalke have won only one of their last seven Champions League matches (W1 D2 L4).

The Germans have scored only one first half goal in their last six Champions League games at the VELTINS-Arena, with eight of their nine goals in this period coming after half-time.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has scored in six of his 10 Champions League appearances since the turn of 2012.

Maribor are yet to score a goal in the first half of a Champions League game, despite this being their eighth game in the competition.

No side made fewer touches in the opposition box than Schalke (5) on MD1 of the 2014-15 Champions League.

Manchester City have lost three successive Champions League matches; their worst-ever run in European competition.

Man City have won just one of their last seven European meetings with Italian sides (L4 D2).

Roma have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine Champions League matches, conceding an average of two goals a game during this run (18 goals conceded).

Roma's 5-1 win over CSKA Moscow on MD1 was their best-ever victory in the Champions League.

Three of Manchester City's last four European meetings with Italian clubs have ended 1-1.

Sergio Aguero has averaged a goal every two games in the Champions League for Manchester City (nine goals in 18 appearances).

Aguero has scored five goals in his last five Champions League appearances at the Etihad Stadium.

Ashley Cole could become only the 11th English player to play for a non-British side in the Champions League.

Porto are unbeaten in their four previous European meetings with Shakhtar Donetsk (W3 D1).

With his treble against BATE Borisov, Yacine Brahimi became the seventh player to score a hat-trick on his CL debut and the first since Wolfsburg's Grafite in September 2009.

FC Porto have lost more games in the Champions League than any other team (50).

Shakhtar have failed to find the net in four of their last five Champions League games, but have also kept a clean sheet in three of their last four.

Jackson Martinez has scored only one goal in seven CL apps away from home, compared to five in eight at Estadio do Dragão.

 

Sporting Lisbon v Chelsea

This will be Sporting Lisbon's first Champions League home game in five and a half years (since Feb 2009). They lost their last one 0-5 versus Bayern Munich.

In fact, Sporting Lisbon have conceded exactly five goals in their last two Champions League home matches (2-5 v Barcelona in Nov 2008 and 0-5 v Bayern Munich in Feb 2009).

Sporting have won their last three European matches at Estádio José Alvalade against English sides, keeping a clean sheet on each occasion.

Chelsea have failed to win their last three Champions League matches (D2 L1) - they have never failed to win four successive games in the competition.

There have been four meetings between English and Portuguese clubs in the Champions League since the turn of 2012, with the English clubs winning all four games.

João Moutinho has had a hand in five goals (three goals, two assists) in his last five Champions League appearances.

Hulk has scored in three successive Champions League appearances for Zenit. He has never scored in four successive CL games.

Just 39.4% of Zenit's passes versus Benfica were in the opposition half; a lower proportion than any other side on MD1 of the 2014-15 Champions League.

 

Arsenal v Galatasaray

This will be only the second occasion that these two sides have met in a European game - the first being the 2000 UEFA Cup final that ended 0-0 before Galatasaray won 4-1 on penalties.

Excluding penalty shootouts, Arsenal have never lost a game against a Turkish opponent (W5 D4), keeping a clean sheet in eight of these nine games.

Atlético Madrid v Juventus
Juventus have won four of their previous five meetings with Atlético Madrid (L1), but these matches were all played between 1963-1965 in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Atletico have lost their last two games in European competition - they have not lost three European matches in succession since October 1984.

Los Rojiblancos have won their last five European encounters with Italian sides (Milan twice, Lazio twice and Udinese)

Juventus have kept a clean sheet in six of their nine European matches in 2014 so far.

Juve have received more red cards in the Champions League than any other team (20), but they have only been given one in their last 23 CL games.

Atletico Madrid have played more Champions League games without having been given a red card than any other side (36 games).

Leverkusen have scored only two goals in their last six Champions League matches.

Benfica have met Bayer Leverkusen on four previous occasions, winning two and drawing two.

Benfica have failed to score in three successive European games - they haven't failed to score in four consecutive games in Europe since September 1977.

The Eagles have won just one of their last nine Champions League away games (W1 D3 L5), but this victory came in their last game on the road in the competition (3-2 v Anderlecht in Nov 2013).

Stefan Kießling has averaged a goal every 179 minutes in his Bundesliga career for Bayer Leverkusen, but in the Champions League this ratio is a goal every 412 mins.

Club captain Luisão made his 43rd Champions League appearance for Benfica on MD1; more than any other player for the club. This is his eighth CL campaign at the club.

Benfica goalkeeper Artur Moraes was sent off on MD1 against Zenit - the first goalkeeper to be sent off for the club in the history of the Champions League.

 

FC Basel v Liverpool

FC Basel have lost last two European matches, conceding five goals in both matches. They have not lost three European games in a row since October 2008.

Basel defeated fellow English side Chelsea both home and away in the 2013-14 Champions League group stages.

These two sides have met just twice before, these coming in the 2002-03 Champions League: they played out two score draws (1-1 and 3-3).

Liverpool have not lost any of their last nine matches against Swiss opponents (W6 D3).

The last five European games that Liverpool have played against Swiss teams have seen 29 goals scored; an average of 5.8 goals per game.

Mario Balotelli only managed two goals and didn't assist a single goal in the 2013-14 CL for AC Milan. He already has one goal in one CL app for Liverpool.

Balotelli has 10 touches in the opposition box on MD1 - no player managed more than this.

Breel Embolo (17y 214d) was one of only two 17 year olds to play on MD1 of the Champions League this season.

 

Ludogorets Razgrad v Real Madrid

This will be Ludogorets eighth game in the Champions League already this season, having come through three qualifying rounds to get to the group stages.

Of these previous seven games, Ludogorets have only won two (D3 L2).

Bulgarian sides have played seven games in the Champions League; losing on all seven occasions and scoring only two goals.

Real Madrid have won both of their previous two European games against Bulgarian sides; defeating Levski Sofia 1-0 away and 2-0 at home in 1979.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 68 goals in 104 Champions League appearances - three away from Raul's CL record of 71 goals.

Anicet is only the second Madagascan player to play in the Champions League, after Franck Rabarivony for Auxerre in 1996-97.

There have been 13 games played by Swedish teams in the Champions League since 1999-2000 - only one of these has ended in victory (W1 D3 L9).

Olympiakos have won three of their last four Champions League matches (L1).

Kostas Mitroglou has scored nine goals in his last 13 Champions League appearances.

Malmo are the only one of the 130 different teams to have played in the Champions League yet to score in the competition.

Anderlecht v Borussia Dortmund

Anderlecht are on a run of nine successive European matches without a victory (L6 D3).

Borussia Dortmund lost their only previous away trip to Anderlecht; 0-1 in the 1990-91 UEFA Cup.

No German side has lost against Belgian opposition in the Champions League (W9 D3).

In the 12 previous Champions League meetings between Belgian and German sides, the German side has always scored.

Dortmund have lost just two of their 13 CL group stage games since September 2012 (W9 D2).

Borussia Dortmund attempted more shots (21) than any other side on MD1 of the 2014-15 Champions League.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang attempted more shots than any other player on the opening matchday of the 2014-15 Champions League (6) and also more than six teams overall.
