Champions League Opta Facts - 12-13 April

Manchester City - Paris SG

o   Only 18% of teams drawing 2-2 at home in the first leg of a Champions League game have gone on to progress to the next round, that's two out of 11 (AC Milan against Bayern Munich in April 2007; Manchester Utd against Porto in April 2009).

o   The two previous encounters between Manchester City and Paris SG both ended in draws: 0-0 in the UEFA Cup group stages in December 2008 and 2-2 in this season's quarter final first leg.

o   The last three Champions League knockout encounters between Ligue 1 and Premier League clubs have all seen the French team eliminate their English counterpart.

o   Manchester City have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history. However, they have won only one of their seven games in the knockout stages (D2 L4), including none at the Etihad (D1 L2).

o   Manchester City have kept fewer clean sheets than any other of the 2015/16 quarter-finalists in this season's Champions League (1 in 9 games).

o   Manchester City's last seven Champions League goals have been scored by seven different players.

o   Paris SG have been knocked out in the quarter finals in each of the last three campaigns. Their last (and only) Champions League semi-final appearance to date was in 1994/95.

o   Paris SG have won only one of their seven away games against English opposition, it was on their last trip to Chelsea in March (2-1).

o   Paris SG have scored at least two goals in each of their last five Champions League games.

o   Paris SG recorded 67% possession in the first leg against Manchester City, their highest ratio in a Champions League knockout game since their return to the competition in 2012/13.

o   Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored in each of his last five Champions League games. He's never gone six in a row in the competition.

o   Ibrahimovic has scored/assisted six of PSG's last eight Champions League goals.

o   Sergio Agüero has scored 16 goals in his last 19 Champions League starts.

o   Fernandinho has been directly involved in Manchester City's last three Champions League goals (2 assists followed by 1 goal). He's also conceded more fouls than any other player in this season's competition (26, but only one yellow card).

o   Joe Hart has saved the last three penalties he's faced in the Champions League.

Real Madrid - Wolfsburg

o   In 15 previous occurrences of teams losing 2-0 away from home in the first leg of a Champions League game, only twice have teams managed to progress to the next round: Barcelona in February 2013 (v AC Milan) and Manchester Utd in February 2014 (v Olympiakos).

o   In the first leg, Real Madrid suffered their biggest defeat in a Champions League game since April 2014, it was also against a German side (0-2 v Borussia Dortmund).

o   Real Madrid only had three shots on target in the first leg against Wolfsburg, their lowest tally in a Champions League game since October 2012 (2 v Dortmund).

o   Real Madrid have progressed in each of their last four Champions League knockout encounters with German clubs. Borussia Dortmund were the last German side to eliminate the Merengues, back in the 2012/13 semi-finals.

o   Real Madrid have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in each of the last five seasons.

o   Real Madrid have won 29 of their last 34 Champions League games at the Bernabéu (D3 L2).

o   Real Madrid are the only team yet to concede a goal at home in the Champions League this season.

o   Real Madrid's last nine Champions League goals have all been scored after half-time.

o   Real Madrid's last defeat at the Bernabéu in the Champions League was against a German team (3-4 v Schalke in March 2015).

o   Wolfsburg - who are in the quarter finals of Europe's top club competition for the first time in their history - have won their last five Champions League games, their best ever run and the longest current streak among teams left in the competition.

o   Wolfsburg's last knockout encounter with a Spanish club saw them eliminate Villarreal in the 2009/10 Europa League round of 32 (6-3 on aggregate).

o   In their 15 Champions League games, Wolfsburg have lost only twice by more than one clear goal.

o   Only one of Wolfsburg's 15 games in the Champions League has ended in a draw, it was against Besiktas in October 2009 (0-0).

o   Four of the last five goals conceded by Wolfsburg in the Champions League have come in the final 15 minutes.

o   Wolfsburg are the only team left in the quarter-finals who have averaged under 50% possession in the Champions League this season (47.7%).

o   No side has produced more goalscorers than Wolfsburg in this season's Champions League (9, level with Bayern Munich).

o   Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 37 goals in 35 Champions League games at the Santiago Bernabéu. He has scored/assisted 74% of Real Madrid's goals in this season's competition (17 out of 23).

Atlético Madrid - Barcelona

o   52% of teams who have won 2-1 at home in the first leg of a Champions League game have gone on to progress to the next round (11 out of 21), including the last four.

o   Barcelona have won their last seven games against Atlético Madrid in all competitions.

o   All three encounters between Atlético and Barcelona this season have all followed the same template: Atlético score first and Barcelona win 2-1.

o   Atlético have picked up five red cards in their last five competitive games against Barcelona, whilst the Blaugranas haven't received a single one.

o   However, Atlético and Barcelona's only previous encounter on the European stage before this season saw the Madrid side progress 2-1 on aggregate in the 2013/14 Champions League quarter-finals. Atlético's 1-0 win at the Calderón in April 2014 (second leg) is the last time they beat Barcelona.

o   The last time Barcelona failed to score in the Champions League was in April 2014 against...Atlético Madrid at the Calderón (1-0 defeat).

o   The first leg at the Camp Nou produced 10 cards (9 yellows and 1 red), the most for a 90-minute game in this season's Champions League.

o   Atlético's two shots on target in the first-leg (goal included) occurred before Fernando Torres' red card in the 35th minute.

o   Atlético have scored fewer goals than any of the other quarter-finalists in this season's Champions League (12 goals in 9 games).

o   Diego Simeone has won 11 of his 15 Champions League games at the Calderón as Atletico manager (D3 L1).

o   Atlético have kept a clean sheet in 12 of their last 14 Champions League matches at the Calderón.

o   Barcelona have only kept one clean sheet in 13 Champions League/European Cup games against Spanish opposition, that was against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in April 2011.

o   Meanwhile, Atlético have never scored more than one goal in their nine Champions League/European Cup encounters with Spanish clubs.

o   Barcelona have progressed to the Champions League semi-finals in seven of the last eight campaigns, the only exception coming in 2013/14 when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by...Atlético Madrid.

o   Barcelona have won the Champions League in four of the last 10 seasons. They could become the first team since AC Milan to win back-to-back European Cup/Champions League titles. The Rossoneri did it in 1989 & 1990.

o   Barcelona are the only club still unbeaten in the Champions League this season. They have won 18 of their 22 games in the competition since last season (D2 L2), scoring in all 22 games.

o   Atlético Madrid have only made it to the semis once since the Champions League format was introduced in 1992/93 (finalist in 2013/14).

o   Gabi has assisted the last three Champions League goals scored by Atlético Madrid players at the Vicente Calderón.

o   Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have scored 44 of Barcelona's 53 Champions League goals since last season (83%).

o   Suarez has scored 15 goals and delivered six assists in his last 17 Champions League games.

o   Messi has scored 25 goals in 29 games against Atlético Madrid, his favourite opponent alongside Sevilla.

o   Ivan Rakitic has scored/assisted four of Barcelona's six goals away from home in this season's Champions League, more than any other player.

Benfica - Bayern Munich

o   68% of teams who have won 1-0 at home in the first leg of a Champions League game have gone on to progress to the next round (19 out of 28).

o   Bayern Munich have knocked out Benfica in each of their three previous home/away encounters in European competition (1975/76 European Cup, 1981/82 European Cup, 1995/96 UEFA Cup).

o   In each of those previous encounters, Bayern Munich then went on to reach the final that same season, winning the European Cup in 1976 and UEFA Cup in 1996 whilst losing against Aston Villa in the 1982 European Cup.

o   Bayern Munich have made it to the Champions League semi-finals in five of the last six seasons.

o   Meanwhile, Benfica haven't made it to the semis of the Champions League/European Cup since 1989/90.

o   Benfica have won only one of their seven Champions League games against German sides (D1 L5), it was against Kaiserslautern in November 1998 (2-1).

o   Benfica's home record in the Champions League against German sides is perfectly balanced: one win, one draw and one loss (3 goals for, 3 conceded).

o   Bayern Munich have scored twice as many goals as Benfica in this season's Champions League (26 to 13). The Bavarians had six shots on target in the first-leg to Benfica's one.

o   Benfica have scored in all four of their Champions League home games this season (6 goals in total).

o   However, Benfica have scored more than two goals only once in their last 39 Champions League games (v Anderlecht in November 2013).

o   Bayern Munich are winless in their last six away games in the Champions League knockout stages (D3 L3).

o   Bayern Munich's last Champions League trip to Portugal ended in a 3-1 defeat against Porto in last season's quarter final first leg. They were unbeaten in their previous four away games against Portuguese sides in the competition.

o   Five of Bayern Munich' last 10 Champions League goals have been headers.

o   Nicolas Gaitán has been directly involved in Benfica's three goals in this season's Champions League knockout stages (1 goal, 2 assists).

o   Robert Lewandowski has failed to score in six of his last seven Champions League games outside the Allianz Arena.

o   Pep Guardiola has reached the quarter-finals in each of his seven seasons as manager in the Champions League.
