Edinburgh Derby betting preview
The Edinburgh derby is always a cracking match and this one should be no different as both sides look to come out with the bragging rights and move up the table.
Hibernian (9/5) have really turned around their form since losing 1-0 at Tynecastle on New Year's Day and although they are still ninth in the table, they are on a six match unbeaten run and confidence will be high.
However, Hearts (8/5) will hold no fear as they travel to Easter Road. Although they have stuttered recently and failed to put a real run of wins together, they are still twelve points clear in third place which means European football next season.
Hearts also rule the roost when it comes to playing their Capital rivals, they have won the last four meetings between the sides and Jim Jefferies' men will be doing all they can to make it five.
Hibernian haven't actually beaten their Edinburgh rivals in the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League since May 2009 but Hearts know they are playing a different side to the one they have met previously this season -boss Colin Calderwood has brought in some players and they are in a totally different mind-set.
With home advantage with Hibernian, the squad nice and rested having not played since 5th March and the team on a great run of form - I don't see Hearts making it five wins in a row against them.
I think they look a decent bet at 9/5 as realistically, despite league position, there isn't a whole lot between the two squads. I am slightly wary of the draw (21/10) so I think backing Hibernian OR draw in the double chance market looks a great bet at 1/2.
Kevin Kyle was the hero for Hearts in their 1-0 win on New Year's Day and if you fancy him to score first in this match you can get 6/1. If you also like the look of another 1-0 to the Jambos then that is also 6/1 or you can get 35/1 on the scorecast of Kevin Kyle first and Hearts 1-0.
If, like me, you think The Hibees will do well then goals have mainly been coming from one place - Derek Riordan. The lethal striker has banged in 10 of Hibs' 31 league goals this season and if he scores, they generally win matches. You can back Riordan to score first at 11/2 or 6/4 for him to score anytime.
Hibernian will take confidence from the fact that The Jambos have failed to score in four of their last five league games on the road. If you think they will fire a blank again you can get 7/4 on Hibs to keep a clean sheet or 3/1 on them winning the match to nil.
Hearts have conceded exactly twice in their last three SPL matches which makes the 2-0 and 2-1 to Hibs scorelines look like value bets at 14/1 and 10/1 respectively.
Hearts may be higher in the table and hold the recent history between these two sides but Colin Calderwood has turned things around for Hibernian, they are on red-hot form and fully rested to prepare for this huge match which is why I think they will win.
It should be a fiery affair so take a look at our range of card markets such as 10/3 on the first card coming in the 1st to 15th minute.
