QPR v Rochdale

o   QPR's only win in their three previous meetings with Rochdale was a 3-0 victory back in April 1959 in Division Three, drawing one and losing the other.

o   Rochdale won the last meeting between these sides, 2-0 at Loftus Road at this stage of the League Cup in August 2011.

o   The Hoops have fallen at this stage in each of the last three seasons, each time against opposition from a lower tier.

o   The only time Rochdale have reached the third round of the League Cup since they reached the 1962 final was in 2011-12 - after beating QPR in round two.

 

Scunthorpe v Bristol City

o   Scunthorpe have only progressed from two of their last 12 League Cup ties against higher ranked opposition (vs Blackburn in 2014-15 and Derby via penalties in 2012-13).

o   The Robins have won their last four meetings with Scunthorpe in all competitions, winning each game by a 2-0 scoreline.

o   The Iron haven't reached the third round of the League Cup since the 2010-11 season, where they eventually lost to Manchester United.

o   Bristol City have reached the third round of the League Cup in just one of the last 12 seasons (2013-14).

 

Watford v Gillingham

o   The last meeting between these sides was their only previous meeting in this competition - Watford won 3-0 in a first round tie in August 2007.

o   Gillingham's last win at Vicarage Road in all competitions came in a second tier league meeting in March 2003 (1-0), losing two and drawing one since then.

o   The Hornets have reached the third round of the League Cup in just one of the previous seven seasons (2013-14).

o   Meanwhile, Gillingham haven't progressed past the second round since 2005-06, beating Portsmouth 3-2 at Priestfield - which was also the last time they beat Premier League opposition in the competition.

 

Peterborough v Swansea

o   This will be the fourth tie between these sides in the League Cup, with the Posh progressing on two of the previous three occasions.

o   However, Swansea won the last meeting between the sides, 3-1 in the third round in September 2010, thanks to a Scott Sinclair hat-trick.

o   Peterborough have lost seven and drawn one of their last eight League Cup games against top-flight opposition, seeing them eliminated from six ties. Their last win came against Liverpool in 1991-92.

o   Meanwhile, 2013 winners Swansea were knocked out by lower league opposition in last season's tournament, going down 1-0 against Championship Hull.

 

Everton v Yeovil

o   This will be the first meeting of any kind between these two sides.

o   Since beating Sunderland in the 1949 FA Cup fourth round, Yeovil have lost all 12 of their meetings with top flight opposition in all competitions.

o   Everton have progressed from 15 of their last 17 League Cup ties against lower tiered opposition, losing out only to Brentford in 2010-11 and Leeds in 2012-13.

o   The Glovers have never progressed past the second round of the League Cup.

 

Millwall v Nottingham Forest

o   These sides have played each other four times across three League Cup ties previously (one replay), with Millwall progressing on two occasions.

o   However, Forest won the last such meeting, winning 2-1 at this stage in the 2013-14 campaign.

o   The Lions have lost their last two Round 2 ties, last reaching the third round back in 2011.

o   Nottingham Forest have won their last four away League Cup ties against lower ranked opposition.

 

Sunderland v Shrewsbury

o   Sunderland have never lost against Shrewsbury, winning six and drawing two of their eight second tier league meetings between 1979 and 1989.

o   This will be Shrewsbury's 31st consecutive League Cup tie against higher ranked opposition. They've won five of their last seven, with both defeats coming against Premier League clubs.

o   The Black Cats have reached the third round in seven of the last eight seasons, including reaching the final in 2014.

o   Indeed, David Moyes' last games in the League Cup were with Man United in the 2014 semi-finals - losing out to Sunderland on penalties.

 

Luton v Leeds

o   This will be the fourth meeting between these sides in the League Cup, with Luton winning the most recent clash 2-0 back in November 1988, en route to reaching the final (L2).

o   Leeds haven't won at Kenilworth Road since December 1991, in a top-flight clash the season Leeds were crowned champions (D2 L1 since).

o   The Hatters have won five of their last seven League Cup ties against Championship sides, with both defeats coming against Reading (2005 and 2008).

o   The Whites are unbeaten in 13 League Cup ties against fourth-tier opponents, winning the last 11 in a row (D2). Their last defeat was against Mansfield in September 1994.

 

Chelsea v Bristol Rovers

o   This is the first time Chelsea have played in Round 2 of the League Cup since the 1996-97 season, where they beat Blackpool 5-4 on aggregate before losing out to Bolton in Round 3.

o   The Pirates won the last meeting between these sides, in a Division Two match back in March 1981 (1-0).

o   The Blues have won their last eight League Cup ties against lower ranked opposition, since losing on penalties to Burnley in November 2008.

o   Bristol Rovers haven't reached Round 3 of the League Cup since 2000-01, where they eliminated Premier League side Everton at this stage via penalties.

 

Burton v Liverpool

o   This will be the first ever meeting between these sides.

o   Liverpool have lost none of their last 12 League Cup games against lower ranked opponents (W8 D4), though one of those draws ended in a shootout loss to Northampton in September 2010.

o   Burton have faced Premier League opposition in two of the previous three League Cup campaigns, beating QPR in 2014-15, but losing out on penalties to Fulham in 2013-14.

o   Liverpool have reached the semi-final in three of the last five League Cup campaigns, including reaching the final twice (winning in 2012 but losing on penalties to Man City last season).

 

Blackburn v Crewe

o   Blackburn won the only previous League Cup meeting between these sides, 1-0 back in October 1998 courtesy of a Chris Sutton goal.

o   Crewe have scored just one goal in their last six meetings with Blackburn in all competitions.

o   Rovers have been eliminated from five of their last six League Cup ties against lower ranked opposition, the exception being their first round win against Mansfield.

o   The Railwaymen haven't won a Round 2 League Cup tie since 2008-09, when they beat Bristol City before being knocked out by Liverpool in Round 3.

 

Burnley v Accrington

o   This will be the first ever meeting between these two sides.

o   Stanley have never beaten Premier League opposition in any competition (D1 L3). They also lost on penalties following the solitary draw, against Watford in the League Cup in September 2006.

o   Burnley have failed to score in their last three League Cup games. They've never gone four games without a goal in the competition.

o   Accrington have never progressed past the second round in League Cup history.

 

Crystal Palace v Blackpool

o   Palace have never lost a League Cup match against Blackpool (W2 D1), winning the most recent meeting 3-1 in October 2003.

o   However, since that defeat, Blackpool have lost just one of their 10 meetings with the Eagles in all competitions (W3 D6).

o   Alan Pardew's men have won their last three League Cup games lower tiered opposition, netting 11 goals in the process.

o   Blackpool have progressed from three of their last five League Cup ties against Premier League opposition.

 

Morecambe v Bournemouth

o   Morecambe have faced Premier League opposition on two occasions in the League Cup, losing both encounters in the second round of the competition, 2-0 at Sunderland in 2012 and 2-0 at home to Newcastle in 2013.

o   Bournemouth reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup in 2015; their best ever run in the competition before losing 3-1 at home to Liverpool.

o   This will be the first time Morecambe and Bournemouth have met in a domestic cup competition.

o   Morecambe's Jack Dunn is the current League Cup top goalscorer with three goals.

Preston v Oldham

o   Preston have never made it beyond Round 4 of the League Cup.

o   Oldham reached the final of the League Cup in 1990 but were defeated 1-0 by Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest.

o   These sides have met once before in the League Cup, in 1969, when Preston progressed to the second round after beating Oldham 1-0 in a first round replay.

o   Preston won both League One meetings between the two sides in 2014/15, with an aggregate score of 5-0. PNE also defeated Oldham 10-9 in the EFL Trophy on penalties.

 

Oxford v Brighton

o   This will be the second League Cup meeting between the two sides. The first was a 2-0 first round home win for Brighton in 1968.

o   Oxford won the 1986 League Cup, beating Queens Park Rangers 3-0 in the final.

o   Brighton have never progressed beyond the quarter-final of the League Cup.

o   Oxford are unbeaten in their last eight matches against Brighton (W5 D3).

 

Reading v MK Dons

o   The only two previous meetings between these two sides came in the Championship last season. MK Dons were relegated but were unbeaten against Reading during the campaign (W1 D1).

o   MK Dons' first ever League Cup match was a 3-0 away win against Peterborough in 2004.

o   Reading have never scored against MK Dons, in two previous meetings.

o   Reading 5-7 Arsenal in October 2012 holds the record for the most goals in a single League Cup match, along with Brentford 6-6 Dagenham and Redbridge in August 2014.


Fulham v Middlesbrough

o   Fulham and Middlesbrough have only ever met once in a cup competition, the final of the 1975 Anglo-Scottish Cup. Middlesbrough won 1-0.

o   Fulham have failed to score in four of their last five matches against Middlesbrough.

o   Middlesbrough reached back to back League Cup finals in 1997 and 1998 but lost both to Leicester City and Chelsea.

o   Middlesbrough won the League Cup in in 2004 with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.

 

Newcastle v Cheltenham

o   Newcastle have played Cheltenham just once in their history, a 2-0 fourth round FA Cup win in 2006.

o   Newcastle have won their last nine consecutive League Cup Round 2 matches.

o   Cheltenham have never won a second round League Cup match (L5).

o   Cheltenham's first second round League Cup match was a 7-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in 2002.

 

Exeter v Hull

o   The second ever meeting between Exeter and Hull was a second round League Cup match in 1963/64 (Hull won 1-0).

o   Hull have won five of their last seven matches against Exeter, dating back to 1999/00 (D1 L1).

o   Nine of Exeter's last 11 League Cup games have been at home (W2 L7).

o   Exeter have never beaten a Premier League opponent in the League Cup (L2).

 

Derby v Carlisle

o   Derby are unbeaten in the last three meetings between these two sides, which have all been in the League Cup (W2 D1).

o   Derby have won just one of their last seven home matches against Carlisle in all competitions (D2 L4).

o   Carlisle have scored exactly two goals in four of their last five second round League Cup matches (W3 L2).

o   Carlisle lost 5-1 on aggregate to West Brom in the semi-finals of the 1969/70 League Cup.

 

Northampton v West Brom

o   Northampton have never beaten West Brom in a competitive match (D2 L4).

o   The last time Northampton faced Premier League opposition in the second round of the League Cup, they lost 4-1 to Newcastle United at St James' Park.

o   West Brom lost three League Cup finals between 1966 and 1970, against West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City.

o   West Brom have won their last three second round League Cup matches away from home, scoring 10 goals.


Wolves v Cambridge

o   The first two matches between these two sides were second round League Cup matches in 1980/81. Cambridge won the first leg 3-1 and the second leg 1-0.

o   Wolves are unbeaten in their last six Round 2 League Cup matches (W4 D2).

o   Wolves won the League Cup in 1974 and 1980, beating Manchester City 2-1 and Nottingham Forest 1-0 respectively.

o   Cambridge United last reached the second round of the League Cup in 2002/03.

 

Stevenage v Stoke

o   This will be the first ever competitive meeting between these two sides.

o   Stoke progressed from their last second round League Cup match by beating Luton 8-7 on penalties (after an initial 1-1 draw).

o   Stevenage have never gone beyond the second round of the League Cup.

o   The last time Stevenage drew Premier League opposition in Round 2 of the League Cup, they lost 2-1 away at Everton in 2013/14.

 

Norwich v Coventry

o   This will be the first ever League Cup fixture between the two sides.

o   Norwich have won just two of their last 10 meetings with Coventry (D4 L4).

o   Norwich have played lower ranked opposition in each of their last five Round 2 League Cup matches (W4 L1) with their only defeat coming against MK Dons in 2011/12.
