England look Down and out
It is the start of yet another era for the England team, the new manager Roy Hodgson takes charge for his first match and he has only had a couple of training sessions with the players.
He only has two matches before the start of his Euro 2012 campaign but he will know some of the players from his stint as manager of Liverpool.
The result against Norway is not important and it may be an experimental side. He will not know his first team for the first group match and he will be without the Chelsea contingent who have been given extra time-off after their Champions League victory.
Rooney will also not play a part in the match. He is out of the first two matches at Euro 2012 due to suspension and he will need to determine who will be England's front man without the star player.
Norway are 5/2 to win the clash, the draw is 9/4 and an away win is 11/10. The main contenders for Rooney's role look weak. Welbeck is typical of the squad of recent years, if you play for Man Utd, you get an England cap!
Defoe and Carroll and been on the periphery of their respective first team squads this season and can both count themselves fortunate to be heading to the Ukraine or Poland.
Carroll was picked over Crouch and he looks the best option. Chelsea's Champions League win should give the players hope, that England could lift the trophy. Carroll is 5/1 to open the scoring and he may be used as a sole striker.
That would seem the best option, England should play in a similar mould to Chelsea and attack on the break with numbers, and they do not have the quality that the likes of Spain, Germany and Holland possess.
It will be a similar formation and style of play to when Hodgson was based at Fulham, when they reached the Europa League final!
We will pack the midfield with players and Milner could be a big price at 16/1 to open the scoring. He should be in good spirits after City's Premier League title and he has an eye for goal. I would not be backing Downing to score anytime at 11/2, his only assist all season was getting Kenny Dalglish sacked by Liverpool.
He managed no goals and no assists in thirty-six Premier League matches. He does not deserve a place in the squad and I would be surprised if he starts all tournament.
Steven Gerrard has been named as England's captain for Euro 2012 and he will be hoping to kick-off Hodgson's tenure as England manager with a win against Norway. For the Match Winner, we have enhanced the price for him to score from outside the box from 8/1 to 12/1!
England are even money to have the most corners! Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ashley Young will all play a part in the game and they will be feeding Carroll plenty of crosses. You can expect them to make breakaway attacks and England should have plenty of corners.
