Poland v Greece

  • The last side to win a European Championship finals tournament that they hosted were France in 1984. None of the last eight hosts have won the tournament in their home nation, while only one of those (Portugal in 2004) have reached the final.
  • Poland have never won a game at the European Championships. Their one previous appearance in 2008 saw them exit at the group stage following one draw and two defeats.
  • Greece have only won one of their nine group matches at European Championship finals, though that was in their opening game of Euro 2004 - the year they went on to win the tournament.
  • Greece's one group victory in 2004 was against Portugal who, as Poland are now, were the hosts of the tournament.
  • Poland have won 10 of their previous 15 internationals against Greece (D2 L3), including three of their four previous competitive meetings (L1).
  • Greece are the only side to have won the tournament with a foreign coach (with Germany's Otto Rehhagel in 2004).
  • The last three host sides have all lost their opening games at Euros (Portugal in 2004, Switzerland and Austria in 2008).
  • Greece had the lowest goals per game rate in qualifying to reach Euro 2012 (1.4 goals per game).

Russia v Czech Republic

  • These sides have met twice before in European Championships (including games played as Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia). The Soviet Unio defeated the Czechs 3-0 in the semi-final in 1960, while the sides played out a 3-3 draw in the group stages of Euro 96.
  • Russia have won three of their last four European Championship group stage games.
  • Overall, Czech Republic have only won two of 13 internationals against Russia (D5 L6).
  • The Czechs have reached the final four in two of the last four European Championship Finals tournaments, losing the final to Germany in 1996 and being knocked out in the semis in 2004 by Greece.
  • Six of the Czech's 15 goals in qualifying came from defenders; more than any other side in the Euro 2012 qualification campaign.
  • The Czech Republic have never missed a penalty at European Championship finals (eight taken). Before them, Czechoslovakia scored with all 14 of theirs (inc. shootouts).

Netherlands v Denmark

  • Netherlands have won their last four European Championship group games, and seven of their last nine.
  • The sides have met twice before in European Championship games, with Netherlands winning 3-0 in the group stages in Euro 2000 and Denmark winning a penalty shootout in the semi-finals of Euro 1992.
  • Denmark have only won six of 28 previous internationals against the Netherlands, and haven't beaten the Dutch in a competitive game (excluding penalties) since 1967.
  • Denmark found the net in every one of their eight qualification matches for Euro 2012.
  • The Netherlands smashed 37 goals past their opponents during the qualifiers; more than any other side.
  • Klaas Jan-Huntelaar was the top scorer in Euro 2012 Qualifying, bagging 12 goals from 25 shots.
  • Holland had the highest passing accuracy in qualifying (90.2%).
  • The Netherlands have made it out of the group stages in their last six appearances at the Euros, the only side to have done this.
  • The Danes have won just one of their last seven matches at European Championship finals (D2 L4).

Germany v Portugal

  • This will be the fourth meeting between Germany and Portugal at European Championships, with Germany winning 3-2 in Euro 2008, Portugal winning 3-0 in Euro 2000 and the sides drawing 0-0 at Euro 1984.
  • Germany have only won two of their last 10 European Championship group stage games (D4 L4) and have been eliminated at this stage in two of the last three tournaments.Portugal have never been eliminated from the Group Stages of the European Championships (five appearances).
  • Germany did not go behind at any point in the qualification campaign, taking the lead in all 10 of their matches.
  • Germany scored at least three goals in eight of their 10 Euro 2012 qualifiers.
  • Portugal scored 10 goals from outside the box (six from open play, four from DFK) in the qualifiers; more than any other team.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo attempted the most shots in qualifying (54).

Spain v Italy

  • These sides have met six times previously in major international tournaments, with Spain's only win coming on penalties in Euro 2008. Italy have won three (including a replay in the World Cup 1934) and drawn two of the others.
  • La Roja have never scored in three European Championship games against the Azzurri, though Italy themselves have only scored once in these three games combined.
  • Spain have only managed three clean sheets in 21 previous European Championship group stage games.
  • Italy are the only side Spain have played more than four times at major tournaments (Euros and World Cups) but never beaten in regular time (D3 L3).
  • Italy have only won two of their last nine games at European Championships (D5 L2).
  • Italy did not concede a single second half goal in the qualifiers - the only side not to do so.
  • Spain scored at least two goals in each of their eight qualification matches for Euro 2012.
  • No side has ever retained the European Championship title after winning the previous edition.
  • France (1998 and 2000) are the only team to have won the Euros two years after winning the World Cup.
  • The Spaniards are on a run of 14 consecutive wins in competitive matches since the 0-1 defeat to Switzerland in the opening game of the 2010 World Cup.
  • Overall Spain have won 41 of their last 45 competitive games, drawing two and losing two.

Republic of Ireland v Croatia

  • The only two competitive meetings between Ireland and Croatia were in qualification for Euro 2000 and both were won by the home team.
  • Croatia won all three group games at Euro 2008 and have made the quarter-finals in two of their previous three appearances at the Championships.
  • The Republic of Ireland's only previous appearance in this competition saw them eliminated from the group stages in Euro 1988 despite a 1-0 win over England in their opening game.
  • However the Irish have made it past the group stages in their last three appearances at major tournaments (1990, 1994 and 2002, all World Cups).
  • Croatia scored nine headed goals in Euro 2012 qualification (43% of their total) - more than any other side.
  • No side scored more goals from set-piece situations than Ireland in qualification (10), while this contributed towards half of their total (50%).
  • Croatia have scored just four of seven penalties taken at European Championships, the lowest % by a team in the history of the tournament (min. five taken).

France v England

  • England are without a win in five against France in all competitions, losing their last three.
  • England have only ever lost four consecutive games against the same opponent three times before; the last time this occurred was in 1976, when England lost a fourth successive game against Brazil.
  • Three of the Three Lions' last four goals against Les Bleus have come in the 86th minute.
  • England have met France twice before at European Championships, drawing 0-0 in 1992 and losing 1-2 in Euro 2004 (despite leading 1-0 going into injury-time).
  • England have played in more European Championship tournaments without winning one than any other side (seven).
  • England have scored in their last 10 European Championship group games, but have only won half of them (W5 D1 L4).
  • France have been eliminated from the last two major tournaments (Euro 2008, WC 2010) without winning a single game.(P6 D2 L4).
  • No side scored more goals in the opening 15 minutes of qualifying games for Euro 2012 than England (6).
  • France hit the woodwork seven times in the European Qualifiers, more than any other side.
  • Only Italy (two) conceded fewer goals in qualifying than Les Bleus (four).

Ukraine v Sweden

  • The last side to win a European Championship finals tournament that they hosted were France in 1984. None of the last eight hosts have won the tournament in their home nation, while only one of those (Portugal in 2004) have reached the final.
  • Ukraine are the only country making their European Championship debut at Euro 2012.
  • Ukraine and Sweden have an identical record in previous meetings, winning one each with one game drawn (all friendlies).
  • Sweden netted in all 10 of their qualifiers for Euro 2012, scoring more than once in eight of these games.
  • Sweden benefited from seven goals scored by substitutes in the Euro 2012 Qualifiers, more than any other side.
  • Kim Källstrom set up seven goals in Euro 2012 qualifying, the joint-most of any player.
  • The Swedes have won their opening group stage game at the last two Euros (5-0 v Bulgaria in 2004, 2-0 v Greece in 2008).
  • Since 1992, only two of 14 sides making their debut at European Championships have won.
