Young Boys v Everton

  • This will be Everton's first-ever meeting with Swiss opposition.
  • Everton last reached this stage of the competition in 2009/10, losing 4-2 on aggregate to Sporting Lisbon after a 3-0 defeat in Portugal.
  • The Swiss side have played four previous matches against English opposition (W1 D1 L2), conceding 13 goals in the process.
  • However, Young Boys have scored exactly three goals in both of their two previous home games against English sides.
  • The Toffees have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four games in the competition.
  • The Swiss side have won seven of their last 10 Europa League games (not including qualifiers) (D1 L2).
  • Roberto Martinez's men needed just 11 points to win their group - the lowest total of all the group winners this season.
  • Young Boys won a game more and earned a point more than Everton, despite finishing second in their group.



Celtic v Inter Milan



  • Celtic have played Inter three times before, most famously beating them 2-1 In Lisbon to win the 1967 European Cup.
  • The other meetings were in the two legs of the 1972 European Cup semi-finals, both ending 0-0. Inter went through 5-4 on penalties in Glasgow.
  • Celtic have lost their last four games against Italian opposition without scoring a goal.
  • Inter last faced Scottish opposition in the 2005/06 Champions League, winning one and drawing their other meeting with Rangers.
  • The Bhoys failed to win any of their last three group stage games (D1 L2), conceding eight goals in the process.

Liverpool v Besiktas



  • Liverpool beat Besiktas 8-0 the last time they met, in the Champions League in 2007/08.
  • The Reds have won their last three matches against Turkish opposition, scoring 11 and conceding just one in those games..
  • Besiktas have already played four matches against English sides this season, losing on aggregate to Arsenal in the Champions League qualifiers and winning and drawing against Tottenham in the Europa League (W1 D2 L1).
  • Including qualifiers, Besiktas' record against English clubs in Europe reads P18 W5 D5 L8.
  • Liverpool last reached this stage of the competition in 2012/13, where they were eliminated by Zenit St Petersburg on away goals.
  • The Turkish side remained unbeaten in their group stage (W3 D3), scoring in every game.
  • The Reds have won none of their last five games in European competition (D2 L3), though these were all in this season's Champions League.
  • Demba Ba scored five and assisted one more in his four appearances in the group stage.



Tottenham v Fiorentina

  • Tottenham have progressed each of the three times they have faced Italian opposition in the knockout rounds in European competition.
  • The Lilywhites have kept a clean sheet in each of those their last three home games against Italian sides.
  • Fiorentina have won five of their eight previous meetings with English sides (D1 L2).
  • The Italian's only previous visit to London was in the 1999/2000 Champions League, beating Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley.
  • Spurs have reached this stage of the competition for the third successive season, progressing on both the previous occasions.
  • Fiorentina have won seven and lost none of their nine away Europa League games (including qualifiers).
  • Harry Kane scored five goals in five group stage appearances for Spurs, including a hat-trick against Asteras Tripolis.
  • There was a player sent off in three of Fiorentina's six group stage games (one for the Viola, two for their opponents).
