FA Cup Opta Facts – Round 3

 

Arsenal v Hull City

  • This is a repeat of the 2014 FA Cup final which saw Arsenal come from 0-2 down to win 3-2 in extra time.
  • Lukas Podolski has scored four goals in six FA Cup matches including three in two games at the Emirates.
  • Only George Ramsay (6 with Aston Villa) has won the FA Cup as a manager more times than Arsene Wenger.
  • The Gunners have lost just one of their last 38 FA Cup home matches (W28 D9 L1).
  • The Tigers have won just two of their last 20 FA Cup matches against top flight teams (W2 D4 L14).
  • The Gunners have won 11 FA Cup finals, only Manchester United  have won as many.
  • Arsenal have won three of their previous six FA Cup clashes with Hull City (D2 L1).

Southampton v Ipswich Town

  • Southampton have played Ipswich four times in the FA Cup and won all four ties.

  • This is the fifth time Charlton and Blackburn have been drawn together, with both sides going through twice (W2 D2 L2).

  • This match conjures memories of the 1988 FA Cup final between Wimbledon and Liverpool. AFC Wimbledon were formed by fans of Wimbledon in 2002 in response to their club being moved to Milton Keynes.

  • Sergio Aguero has scored eight goals in eight FA Cup appearances.

  • There have been five 90th minute goals scored in Nottingham Forest's last five FA Cup ties.
  • Jamie Paterson has scored five goals in his last four FA Cup starts.
  • Forest have lost three of their last four FA Cup ties on the road.
  • Matty Fryatt has scored 10 goals in his last 14 FA Cup starts.
  • Britt Assombalonga has scored five goals in four FA Cup appearances.
  • Rochdale have never played Nottingham Forest in a competitive fixture.

 

West Bromwich Albion v Gateshead

  • Gateshead are yet to concede a goal in this season's FA Cup after three matches.
  • Alex Rodman and Danny Wright have both scored in two of Gateshead's three FA Cup matches

Blyth Spartans v Birmingham City

  • 1978 saw Blyth Spartans reach the 5th Round only to be knocked out by Wrexham after a replay.
  • Robbie Dale has scored five goals in his last five FA Cup ties this season for Spartans.
  • Jarrett Rivers has scored in three of the last four FA Cup matches for Blyth Spartans.
  • Birmingham City last lost to a non-league side in 1994's 3rd Round when Kidderminster Harriers won 2-1 at St Andrews.

Aston Villa v Blackpool

  • Aston Villa and Blackpool have only ever met once in the FA Cup, in 1938, with the VIllans running out 4-0 winners.
  • Aston Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 16 FA Cup matches.
  • After a run of 12 matches without a defeat in the FA Cup against lower league opponents, Villa have lost their last two by a 1-2 scoreline.
  • Blackpool have won just two of their last 13 FA Cup matches (W2 D3 L8).
  • The Tangerines have not beaten a top flight side in the FA Cup since 1976 when they defeated Burnley. Since then they have lost nine and drawn four of their 13 games in the competition against top division clubs.

Tranmere v Swansea City

  • Wilfried Bony has scored three goals in two FA Cup appearances.

Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur

  • Marvin Sordell has scored seven goals in nine FA Cup appearances.
  • Tottenham and Burnley have been drawn together six times in the FA Cup with seven meetings in total seeing four Spurs wins, two for Burnley and one draw.
  • Burnley and Spurs met in the 1962 FA Cup final with Tottenham winning their second cup final in a row.
  • The first ever meeting between Burnley and Spurs came in the FA Cup in January 1906 with the Londoners winning 2-0.
  • Spurs have scored just two goals in their last six FA Cup matches away from home.
  • Burnley have conceded 14 goals in their last four FA Cup matches and have gone 12 games in the competition since they kept a clean sheet.

 

Millwall v Bradford City

  • The Rams have failed to score in three of their last four FA Cup matches.
  • This is the sixth straight home draw for Derby, but the Rams have won just two and lost four of their last six home FA Cup games.
  • There have been four red cards in five FA Cup matches involving Southport so far this season.
  • Southport haven't made the 3rd Round since 1999 when they were knocked out by Leyton Orient and have not progressed beyond this stage since 1966.

 

Brentford v Brighton & Hove Albion

  • Brentford and Brighton have met three times before in the FA Cup with the Bees winning in 1928-29 and Brighton coming out on top in 1974-75 and 1987-88.
  • Brentford's 3-2 win against the Seagulls earlier this season ended a run of four games against Brighton without a goal for Brentford.
  • There have been five penalties scored in the last seven FA Cup ties involving Brentford.
  • There has been a goal between the 30th and 36th minute in each of Brighton's last six FA Cup ties.

Fulham v Wolverhampton Wanderers

  • Six of the seven wins in the FA Cup by these two teams in this fixture have been by a 2-1 scoreline with the other matches a 1-0 win and a 1-1 draw.
  • Steven Naismith has scored three goals in his last two FA Cup appearances.
  • Everton are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions against West Ham (W10 D4 L0).
  • Romelu Lukaku has scored in each of his three appearances for Everton against West Ham.

Cambridge United v Luton Town

  • The first ever meeting between Chelsea and Watford (March 1970) and the last (January 2010) have come in the FA Cup.
  • Chelsea have only lost two of their last 33 FA Cup matches (W25 D6 L2), though one of the draws saw them eliminated on penalties by Everton.
  • Oscar has four goals and two assists in eight FA Cup starts for Chelsea.

Barnsley v Middlesbrough
