From Mansfield to Anfield?

Mansfield (14/1) host Liverpool (1/4, draw 4/1) at Field Mill on Sunday, live on ESPN, with The Stags looking to make the fourth round for the first time in 5 years at the expense of their Premier League opponents.

Mansfied have so far managed to avoid any league opposition in this year's competition beating Wokington in the qualifying round, then dumped Slough and Lincoln City out - after replays in both, to win this glamour tie against the Anfield outfit.  Their best run in the England's Premier cup competition came way back in 1969; they reached the quarter-finals that year beating West Ham United along the way.

Mansfield go into this tie on the back of just 1 defeat in 12 matches, a 2-1 reverse at home to Alfreton on Boxing Day so they should go into the game confident of causing an upset.  Indeed the only time these two have previously met at Field Mill, a second round League Cup tie in 1970, The Stags recorded a goalless draw.  This would not be the worst result again this time, guaranteeing a money spinning replay at Anfield.

Manager Paul Cox will be hoping that club top scorers Jake Speight and Matt Green continue their form.  They have bagged 8 goals apiece so far this season and will be eager to continue their scoring exploits.  We have priced both at (10/1 to score the first/last goal, 7/2 anytime) and we have enhanced the price of Jake Speight to score at anytime and Mansfield to win from 14/1 to a massive 20/1.  Should you fancy John Dempster to get amongst the goals again as he has in his last two games, we go (33/1 first/last 12/1 anytime).   Richie Sutton is available after a suspension and should start.  The big defender could be a threat from set pieces and so may justify his (66/1 first/last 25/1 anytime odds).

Clean sheets are something of a rarity for Mansfield.  They kept only 4 since the middle of September, so both teams to score could be good value at 19/20.  Their discipline record isn't the greatest either.  They have had 3 players sent off this season in all competitions so far and and we are offering (11/2) for a red card to be shown in this game.  Remember this includes both teams.

Liverpool are likely to make sweeping changes to the side that beat Sunderland on New Year's Day.  Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel are all likely to sit this one out whilst new signing Daniel Sturridge could make his debut.

Sturridge signed in a £12m move from Chelsea this week and clearly enjoys playing in the FA Cup.  The Stiker has scored 7 goals in his last 7 starts in this competition and would love to keep that run going against the conference side.  We make him the second favourite to score 7/2 first/last, 10/11 anytimeRaheem Stirling is likely to be his strike partner and we have priced the precocious teenager at (13/2 first/last 15/8 anytime).

We have also have an enhanced Scorecast offer on Jonjo Shelvey to score at anytime and Liverpool to win from 6/5 to 2/1.  His has scored 5 goals this season the same as captain Steven Gerrard and bettered only by the prolific Suarez on 18.

The Reds have found the net 11 times in their last 4 games and could put a few past The Stags in this one.  We have a range of match handicaps available to help make the prices more attractive.  Liverpool to win with a 3 goal handicap is (18/5) and to win with a 4 goal handicap we will give you  (8/1).

Only three clubs have won the FA Cup more often than Liverpool's seven - Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham. They last lifted the cup in 2006, after beating West Ham on penalties in the last final to be staged at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. The most recent of their 14 appearances in the final was last season, when beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.
