German Bundesliga Opta Facts - 17-19 September

Frankfurt v Freiburg

  • There have been no draws in 16 Bundesliga games between these clubs: Frankfurt have won nine matches, Freiburg seven.
  • Eintracht have won all of their last five home games against Freiburg; the last time that Freiburg won at Frankfurt was over 14 years ago; in March 1996, when Eintracht lost 0-1 at Waldstadion.
  • Only once before in Freiburg's Bundesliga history have the club managed to win six points in their first three games - the 1994/95 campaign, which ended with them finishing in third place.
  • After seven league games without a win (including the last season), Frankfurt just defeated Gladbach 4-0. It was Eintracht's biggest away win in 16 years (March 1994).
  • After Freiburg lost their season opener; despite having led first, they have won their following two matches 2-1 after conceding the first goal of the game. It was the first time that Freiburg have turned around two consecutive matches in the Bundesliga.
  • Freiburg won their last away game 2-1 at Nürnberg, but have failed to win any away games in the nine months since.

Bayern Munich v Köln

  • Köln are the only Bundesliga team that Bayern are yet to beat at the Allianz Arena (two draws, one defeat) - they are yet to face St. Pauli at home in their (relatively) new home.
  • Köln have won nine times in Munich, drawn 12 times and scored 50 goals - all three are the most in Bayern's history.
  • Bayern have lost just one of their last 22 BL games in the Allianz Arena (16 wins, five draws) - in March they lost 1-2 to Stuttgart.
  • Bayern have not scored for two games. The last time that happened was almost a year ago, when they lost to Hamburg (0-1) and Köln (0-0).
  • Köln have lost their last three BL away games, failing to score twice. Their last away win came on 10th April when they won in Hoffenheim.
  • Bayern have just scored just twice in their opening three games - the same as the bottom two teams (Schalke and Stuttgart). Köln have scored four times already.

Stuttgart v Mönchengladbach

  • Stuttgart are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Mönchengladbach, winning five of these.
  • Stuttgart have won none of their last five Bundesliga matches (two draws, three losses).
  • For the first time in their history, Stuttgart have lost their first three Bundesliga matches of the season.
  • Mönchengladbach won their first away match this season 6-3 at Leverkusen, but went on to lose their last home match 4-0 against Frankfurt.
  • Mönchengladbach have won only one of their last 24 Bundesliga duels with Stuttgart (10 draws, 13 losses). That win, 2-0 at home, came in April 2005.
  • Mönchengladbach's last win at Stuttgart was almost 16 years ago - in December 1994 they won 4-2, after falling behind 0-2.

Wolfsburg v Hannover

  • Wolfsburg have won their last five duels with Hannover, scoring 15 goals.
  • For the first time in their history, Wolfsburg have lost their first three league matches of the season.
  • Wolfsburg lost their last home match 3-4 against Mainz, after taking a 3-0 lead - this kind of turnaround hadn't happened in the league for more than 19 years.
  • Hannover have won only one Bundesliga match at Wolfsburg (seven losses) - that win was almost four years ago, on September 15 2006 (2-1).
  • Hannover are unbeaten in their last five league matches, winning four (one draw).
  • Hannover have won their last two away matches in the league.

Kaiserslautern v Hoffenheim

  • Kaiserslautern have lost only one of their last 13 home matches (eight wins, four draws).
  • Kaiserslautern have won none of their two duels with Hoffenheim, both in the second division.
  • Kaiserslautern lost their last league match in Mainz after taking the lead - the last time that this happened to them was in March 2009.
  • Hoffenheim have won their first three league matches this season.
  • Hoffenheim have conceded only one goal this season - that goal came after three minutes in their season opener.
  • Hoffenheim have lost only one of their last six away matches in the league (three wins, two draws).

Bremen v Mainz

  • Bremen have won the last six matches against Mainz in the Bundesliga and are unbeaten at home against FSV. Werder have never beaten a team seven times in a row in the Bundesliga, though.
  • Bremen are unbeaten in their last nine home games (six wins, three draws).
  • Mainz haven't lost any of their last eight games in the Bundesliga (five wins, three draws). If they add another unbeaten game against Werder, they will equal the club record of nine consecutive Bundesliga games without defeat.
  • After matchday three Mainz were second in the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. With a win against Bremen they could even make their first appearance in the top spot of the German top flight.
  • Bremen are by far the best team in the air in the Bundesliga, having won an impressive 84% of their aerial duels.
  • Mainz have the best chance conversion rate of all teams in the German top flight (24%).

St. Pauli v Hamburg

  • For the first time in Bundesliga history, a Hamburg derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV is to be played in the Millerntor-Stadion.
  • St. Pauli haven't defeated HSV in a competitive game in 33 years - their first and only victory came in their very first Bundesliga meeting; which ended 2-0 in September 1977. HSV have won eight Bundesliga games against St. Pauli since, alongside five draws.
  • The last competitive matches between these teams were in 2001/02. Hamburg won the first-leg meeting 4-3 - St. Pauli assistant managers Thomas Meggle and Andre Trulsen scored that day, and manager Holger Stanislawski was also on the pitch.
  • Both HSV and St. Pauli have scored all their goals after half-time this season (HSV six, Pauli three).
  • St. Pauli have failed to score in three of their four competitive matches this season.
  • HSV have scored a league-high three of six goals following a corner; that's only one fewer than last season overall.

Leverkusen v Nürnberg

  • Leverkusen have won four of their last five clashes with Nürnberg (one loss).
  • In their last home match, Leverkusen lost 3-6 to Mönchengladbach - the most goals Leverkusen have ever conceded at home in the Bundesliga.
  • Leverkusen have won only two of their last 11 league matches (four draws, five losses).
  • Last season, Nürnberg were the first team to beat Leverkusen, on matchday 25 at Nürnberg (3-2).
  • Nürnberg have won only one of their last eight league matches (two draws, five losses).

Schalke v Dortmund

  • Schalke haven't lost any of the last six derbies against the BVB (4 wins, 2 defeats). Dortmund's last victory over S04 came back in the 2006/07 season, when they posted a 2-0 success.
  • Of their last 23 Bundesliga clashes with Schalke, Dortmund only managed to win only two (10 Schalke victories, 11 draws).
  • Schalke have been without any points after three match days only twice before. In 1985/86 they ended up in 10th place, in the 1987/88 campaign they finished last and were relegated to the second division.
  • The last time Schalke held 17th place was on match day four of the 2004/05 season, when manager Jupp Heynckes was fired after a 3-0 defeat at Wolfsburg.
  • Dortmund have won back-to-back Bundesliga matches for the first time since March 2010, when they managed three consecutive victories.
  • Dating back to last season, Schalke are winless in five BL matches - their longest slump since May 2009.
