Germany Favourites to Win Euro 2012!
The group stage of Euro 2012 is over with eight teams knowing that three more wins will see them crowned Champions of Europe. Germany are favourites with William Hill at 2/1, boasting the only 100% record so far. Spain are second favourites for the tournament at 5/2. Portugal are behind them at 7/1 with Italy and England rated 8/1 chances. Group D runners up France are an 10/1 chance with Czech Republic, 40/1 and Greece, 50/1 are given no chance.
Germany finished top of Group B, labelled the group of death and will play the runners up from Group A on Friday, Greece. The Greek's pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far as they defeated Russia 1-0 to reach the last eight but this could be a step too far for them. They are 9/1 to beat Germany in 90 minutes and 4/1 to qualify, the longest odds of all of the final eight. Germany are 1/3 in 90 minutes with the draw 19/5.
Thursday's opening quarter final see's Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal clashing with Group A victors, the Czech Republic. Portugal, the graduates of Group B are 8/11 to win within 90 minutes and with an on form Ronaldo in their ranks they may be worth that price. The Czech's have bounced back after an opening day defeat to Russia by defeating Greece and Poland. They are 9/2 to win in 90 minutes and 9/4 for qualification. The 90 minutes draw is 23/10.
World and European champions Spain come up against France on Saturday night and are 4/11 favourites to progress to the last four. France lost their final game to Sweden which gave England top spot of Group D but looked a threat before that defeat. They are 19/5 to defeat Spain in 90 minutes and 2/1 to make it to the last four. The 90 minute draw is 23/10 with a Spain victory in normal time, 4/5.
England, against national expectation have reached the last eight having topped Group D with seven points from a possible nine. They play Italy in the final quarter final on Sunday and it is by far the tightest of the four quarter finals to call. As the odds suggest, Italy 13/8 and England 7/4 for the 90 minute win and equal odds of 5/6 to qualify, it could be tight. England welcomed Wayne Rooney back against the Ukraine and he notched the winner where as Italy will be without influential centre back Giorgio Chiellini which is a boost to Roy Hodgson's team.
Not only is the race for the semi finals heating up but so is the Golden Boot sprint. Mario Gomez is 13/8 favourite after notching three in the group. Ronaldo (7/2), Torres (11/2) and Fabregas (16/1) are all creeping up behind him, all on two goals apiece. Italy have three strikers on a single goal each (33/1 Balotelli, Di Natale, Cassano) as do England (16/1 Rooney, 40/1 Welbeck, 50/1 Carroll) whilst France's Karim Benzema is 33/1 even though he is yet to find the back of the net.
