He Ain’t Heavy Well Backed For Festive Top Spot

The Hillsborough Charity single has once again had its odds trimmed to top the Christmas Charts after it was given its first play on Thursday. William Hill make it 2/5 (from an original 10/11) to scoop the festive top spot. That puts it miles ahead of the X-Factor's 2012 release at 5/2 and the Military Wives choir at 12/1.

"The song has a perfect blend of emotion and star quality and with justice finally achieved this year it is easy to see why He Ain't Heavy is such a clear favourite for Christmas number one," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Played at Goodison Park by Liverpool's cross-city rivals Everton to mark the anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy, the single really touched the nation, being replayed on television on numerous occasions on the following days.

Christmas Number one: 2/5 Hillsborough Charity single; 5/2 UK X Factor 2012 winner; 12/1 The Choir (Military Wives); 14/1 Gabrielle Alpin; 14/1 One Direction; 20/1 Clive Dunn; 20/1 Rod Stewart; 33/1 BAR
