He was a Red...now loves the Shed...Torres!
Chelsea v Liverpool | 16:05 Sky Sports 1
"The target for every footballer is to try and play at one of the top-level clubs in the world, and I can do it now."
The words of Fernando Torres will have felt like a stanley knife in between the shoulder blades , a screwdriver in the loyal hearts of Liverpool fans, disrespecting his former employers before the ink had even dried on the Spaniard's reported £175,000 a week Chelsea contract.
The sky cameras, and the eyes of the crowd and the millions watching around the world will undoubtedly be focused on Torres, in his first outing as Blues player. 'El Nino' is priced at 10/3 to open the scoring against Liverpool and 11/10 to notch at anytime.
There are a number of Torres inspired specials for anybody believing that the striker could return to bite the hand that used to feed him. Our Match Winner Offer for the game sees William Hill enhance the anytime scorecast of Fernando Torres to score at anytime and for Chelsea to win to 7/4.
Other specials for this mouth watering clash include a market on who will be the first Liverpool player to foul Torres. The favourite is proud Liverpudlian Jamie Carragher at 5/1 while Martin Skrtel (11/2), Soti Kyrgiakos (7/1) and Daniel Agger (8/1) will all be keen to let the Spaniard know exactly how they feel about his departure.
With the media circus that has revolved around Torres it is fair to say that a few of the King's Road ego's might need a little massage and could be boosted with a goal at the Bridge.
The obvious choice for first scorer is the new man but I would go for Frank Lampard at 5/1. He scored from the spot in midweek and with the Liverpool defenders doing all they can to stop Torres scoring they could be prone to foul the Spaniard and give away a spot kick.
For Liverpool Luis Suarez produced an impressive cameo appearance on Wednesday night against Stoke showing the sort of link up play and finishing that earned him a £22 Million price tag. In fact, he showed in that short time what many already knew that his link up and first touch is better than the departed Torres. He is 15/2 to score first at Stamford Bridge.
Andy Carroll won't feature due to injury but Liverpool fans are sure to be licking their lips at the prospect of the new look strike force taking shape in the coming weeks. If the Reds can sign some decent wingers in the summer transfer window you wouldn't rule out a Liverpool title challenge next season under the leadership of Kenny Dalglish.
Raul Meireles has been on good form in recent weeks and netted the first goal in midweek, I would back him at 14/1 as a decent long shot to score first at The Bridge.
I think Chelsea (8/13) are a touch too short against a fired up Liverpool (5/1) and I expect Liverpool to score at least once. That makes the draw an appealing prospect at 13/5.
In the correct score market I would look for some value and go for a 2-2 draw at 18/1. The best bet of the game looks to be over 2.5 giving the attacking talent on show and Liverpool's more expansive approach since the return of King Kenny.
