Insider Trading: England v Scotland
England take on Scotland at Wembley for the first time since 1999 in a match that players and fans alike have been anticipating eagerly since it was announced. With neither country performing to expectations for years, bragging rights will be very welcome.
Here’s the feeling around William Hill...
As is often the case in one-off matches like this punters latch on to the bigger price underdog and with 40 per cent of single bets in the 90 minutes on Scotland, a surprise win would not be as welcome as you might think . At odds of 7/1 liabilities can quickly build and in singles Scotland are currently a substantial loser. This figure only looks set to increase as punters latch on to a big price in what could be a match much closer than the betting suggests.
Scotland wins have also been popular in the correct score markets, with 1-0, 2-0 and 2-1 wins for Gordon Strachan's side ones we'll be hoping to avoid. A 1-0 win for Scotland, at a current price of 16/1, has seen almost 20 per cent of all money staked in the Correct Score market and will add to our losses. The last match between these two rivals saw Scotland win 1-0 so we'll be hoping history doesn't repeat itself.
Rickie Lambert has earned a well-deserved call-up for this match and we've seen over half the money in the Hat-trick market placed on the Southampton striker. Should he get the nod, at 33/1 we will be hoping he doesn't get off to a flying start to his International career.
