League One Opta Facts - August 15-16

Barnsley v Burton

This will be the first league meeting between the two sides.

However, they did play each other in last season's FA Cup, with Barnsley thrashing Burton 5-0 in the first round. Sam Winnall scored a hat-trick on the day.

Since promotion to the Football League in 2009, Burton have never lost their second game of the season (W4 D2).

Burton's Stuart Beavon - who scored on the final day of last season and the opening day of this season - hasn't scored in three consecutive games since April 2012 when playing for Wycombe.

Burton scored the second-highest number of away goals in League Two last season (35), with only Wycombe getting more than them (37).

Blackpool v Rochdale

This will be the first time Blackpool and Rochdale have met in the Football League since the 2000/01 season.

The Tangerines have only lost once at home to Rochdale in the league, back in 1983 (W4 D2).

Rochdale have scored just once in their last four league trips to Blackpool.

If Rochdale beat Blackpool, it'll be the first time since 1999 they've won their opening two league games of a season.

Blackpool and Rochdale met in the second game of the 1990/91 season, resulting in a goalless draw.

Bradford v Shrewsbury

The home side has won five of the last six league encounters between Bradford and Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury have failed to score just once in their last eight visits to Bradford.

Bradford haven't lost their first two league fixtures in a season since 1998/99 - the year they were promoted to the Premier League.

Shrewsbury had four players booked on the opening day, more than any other League One side.

The Bantams scored the lowest number of home goals (26) of a team to finish in the top half in 2014/15, and conceded the highest number of any top half team too (33).

Bury v Swindon

Bury have lost each of their last three home league games to Swindon without scoring.

The Robins have won six of their last seven league clashes with Bury, though did lose 1-0 the last time they met in February 2013.

Swindon's Nathan Byrne scored his first career league hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Bradford, netting three goals in 16 second-half minutes.

Bury haven't won the opening two league games of a season since 2008.

Swindon are aiming to win their first two league games in a season for the first time since the 2006/07 season, when they won promotion from League Two.

Millwall v Coventry

Millwall are unbeaten in their last 15 home league matches against the Sky Blues (W10 D5).

Coventry have lost three of their last four league games against the Lions, winning the other.

Coventry's on loan Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong scored his first Football League goals in the 2-0 win against Wigan at the Ricoh Arena.

Millwall only lost one home game in their League One campaign in 2009/10 (W17 D5).

Coventry ended last season unbeaten in six away games (W4 D2).

Oldham v Fleetwood

Oldham were the victors in both of their league games against Fleetwood last season, the first time the two sides had met.

Fleetwood failed to score in either league game against Oldham in 2014/15.

The Latics drew each of their last four home games at the end of last season.

The Cod Army won their first two away games in League One last campaign, before losing six on the spin.

Oldham's opening home game last season ended in defeat, 3-1 to Leyton Orient, before going on an eight game unbeaten run on home soil.

No Fleetwood player scored more than three times away from home in 2014/15.

Peterborough v Colchester

Peterborough and Colchester have met three times in each of the last two seasons. In 2014/15, Colchester won this exact fixture 2-0 in the league and beat the Posh in the FA Cup.

The Posh failed to score in two of their three games against the U's last season.

Colchester had the most shots on the opening day (17) in their 2-2 draw with Blackpool.

Peterborough are on a run of one win in nine games (D4 L4).

Port Vale v Gillingham

Port Vale have scored twice in each of their last five games against Gillingham (W3 D1 L1).

The Gills have lost three of their last four visits to Port Vale, each by a 2-1 scoreline (W1).

Port Vale are winless in their last seven games at Vale Park (D2 L5), and have won one in their last twelve league games.

Vale scored in the 90th minute in both fixtures against Gillingham last season - getting a equaliser away and a winner at home.

Of teams not relegated from League One last season, Gillingham recorded the joint-lowest number of away wins (5).

Despite winning 4-0 against Sheffield United, Gillingham also had the most shots off target in League One (8).

Scunthorpe v Crewe

Scunthorpe have been beaten just once in their last 11 league games at home against the Railwaymen (W7 D3).

Crewe have won four of their last five league matches against Scunthorpe, losing the other.

Crewe had the fewest shots on the opening day (4), drawing 0-0 with Port Vale.

Scunthorpe are unbeaten in seven home league games (W3 D4).

Crewe conceded a joint-high 47 away goals in League 1 in 2014/15.

Sheffield United v Chesterfield

Marc McNulty scored in both games against the Spireites last season for Sheffield United.

Chesterfield have won only one of their last five league games at Bramall Lane (D1 L3).

Sheffield United's last home league game was against Chesterfield at the end of last season, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Chesterfield have lost just one of their last ten league games (W6 D3).

Sheffield United are winless in six league games (D4 L2).

Southend v Walsall

Southend have lost just one of their previous 17 league games at home to Walsall (W9 D7), winning each of the last three.

The Saddlers have gone four away games against Southend without scoring, last netting against them away in 1998.

Of goalkeepers to have played 20 or more home league games in 2014/15, Southend's Daniel Bentley conceded the fewest goals in League Two (5 in 20 games).

The Saddlers have lost just one game in their last nine (W3 D5) - an 8-2 drubbing by Bristol City on the final day of last season.

Wigan v Doncaster

This will be the first time Wigan and Doncaster have played each other in the third tier since 1988.

Wigan have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight league games against Doncaster.

Doncaster are winless in seven league trips to Wigan (D3 L4).

Wigan recorded the fewest number of home wins in the Championship (3) last season, winning once in their last twenty home games (D7 L12).

Doncaster are on a run of two away defeats in a row; three losses in a row would be their worst run since March 2014. The last time they lost three in a row in League One was March 2007.
