League One Play-Off Final Opta Facts - May 24

League One

Preston v Swindon

Preston have lost all three of their previous appearances in a play-off final - vs Wycombe in 1994 (4th tier), vs Bolton in 2001 (2nd tier) and vs West Ham in 2005 (2nd tier).

By contrast, Swindon have won three of their four appearances in a play-off final - vs Gillingham after a replay in 1987 (3rd tier), vs Sunderland in 1990 (2nd tier) and in 1993 vs Leicester (2nd tier). Their defeat came in the 2010 League One final against Millwall.

Despite winning the 1990 2nd tier play-off final, Sunderland were promoted instead of Swindon due to financial irregularities.

Joe Garner scored a hat-trick as Preston won the last meeting between these sides at Deepdale in April. Andy Williams scored Swindon's winner in the reverse fixture (1-0).

Preston have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight against Swindon, though that was in the last fixture.

The Robins have not lost consecutive fixtures against Preston since May 1977, when they had lost five in a row against North End.

Preston's last 11 goals have been scored by either Joe Garner (6) or Jermaine Beckford (5).

Swindon's 5-5 draw with Sheffield United in the 2nd leg of their semi-final was the highest scoring game in play-off history. Indeed, the 13 goals scored across both legs is also a play-off record.

Indeed, Garner has six goals in his last six games for Preston, while Beckford has five in five.

Ben Gladwin has eight goals in his last six games for Swindon, having scored just three in his first 50 for the Robins.
