Manchester United kid kicks off £10,000 payout for proud dad
When 19 year old Ryan Tunnicliffe came on as a substitute for Manchester United in their Capital Cup game against Newcastle last night (Wednesday), not only was it a personal landmark for him but he made his father £10,000 better off as a result of a bet placed with William Hill when Ryan was just nine years old that he would grow up to play for United's first team.
The bet of £100 was struck at odds of 100/1 and will return a profit of £10,000.
There could be worse to come for Hills who also took another bet of £100 at odds of 350/1 that Ryan will play for England's first team at some stage in his career.
This bet could win a further £35,000 payout for Ryan's dad.
"The last time a bet of this nature cost us £10,000 was when Chris Kirkland made his debut in goal for England, also landing a £100 bet for his father. We will obviously be paying close attention to the progress of Ryan's career in the future", said Hill's Graham Sharpe.
