Morris is Brechin hearts at St Johnstone
Scottish FA Cup quarter-final previews
Both St Mirren and Aberdeen have struggled in the league this season. St Mirren beat Aberdeen in January and both teams will know that with Rangers dumped out of the competition, they have a genuine chance of winning silverware. St Mirren are 9/5 to win in ninety minutes, the draw is 11/5 and an Aberdeen win is 6/4. Aberdeen have been really poor this season but on paper they have the strongest squad. Paul Hartley has won the cup previously and the Dons new captain became the first SPL player to score a hat-trick (150/1) on his debut. He is Aberdeen's biggest signing in years and you can get 11/2 for him to score anytime. Scott Vernon is a powerful striker and he can cause St Mirren some problems at the back, the journeyman striker has scored five goals in the cup competitions, take the 9/2 that he can score the first goal of the opening quarter-final match.
Brechin could be a potential banana skin for Derek McInnes side. There will be a full-house for the clash at Glebe Park and St Johnstone will play their first team. They are in a respectable league position and will not be relegated this season. They have a nearly-men tag, they have not won a trophy since they won the Challenge Cup in 2008. They have been boosted by the return of the former Chelsea bad-boy and Leeds United midfield maestro Jody Morris. Brechin are 9/2 to win in ninety minutes, the draw is 5/2 and a St Johnstone victory is 4/6. Jody Morris is the skipper and he is their best player. He is a big price to grab the first goal at 20/1 and I would back the 7/1 for him to score anytime. He regularly takes the penalties and he can shoot from distance. St Johnstone should be too strong for Brechin, get on Morris for first goalscorer to go Brechin some hearts at Glebe Park!
Dundee United are the Scottish Cup holders and I think that after Celtic, they have the most realistic chance of getting silverware this season. They have a young and talented squad and their most threatening player is David Goodwillie. He is 4/1 to grab the first goal and he is always helped by the contribution of Prince Buaben in the midfield. The Prince as he is known, has brought craft and imagination to United and he can score anytime at 4/1. Dundee United should be too strong for Motherwell and the 21/20 for the ninety minute win represents some value. The draw is 21/20 and the Motherwell win is 3/1. The pressure is on Dundee United as they are the holders but the 'well have been very inconsistent lately and may not turn up.
Celtic will be without the influential Majstorovic after he broke a toe in last week's 2-0 win over Hamilton. His absence means that Celtic's defence will be tested at a pivotal stage of the campaign. Inverness were impressive in their 3-0 win against Motherwell at the weekend and they are 13/2 to beat the Hoops. The Celtic win is 4/9 and the draw is 16/5. With the romance of the Cup and ICT's improved form, they could at least gain a draw. Celtic are an attacking side and superb going forward but Inverness can find the net. I would have a punt on both teams to score at 10/11. Celtic's best player is Emilio Izaguirre and he could well be playing in the Premier League next season, the 33/1 for him to score first looks generous considering his talent and ability on the ball.
