Newcastle to rob the Villans

They say a year is a long time in football, well two is even longer. Newcastle's last visit to Villa Park saw them relegated almost two years ago, they now visit the Midlands striving for a top 10 finish.

Despite their precarious league position and inconsistent form the Villans are odds on at 5/6, which begs the question. At 7/2 are Newcastle somewhat over priced?

Coming into this game having thoroughly beaten a poor Wolves side 4-1, the same team who upset Villa the week before, Newcastle will be brimming with confidence. Villa have only won five games in their last 25 league matches.

The Magpies will be without their talisman, Kevin Nolan, who is serving a two match ban and Leon Best is ruled out through injury, but at 15/2 Peter Lovenkrands to be first goal scorer is a good bet. Ryan Taylor comes back into the team and he will help shore up the defence.

Villa will be at full strength, but a full strength side has still seen them only straddle the relegation zone, and after bagging a brace last week we are offering a Match Winners special on Darren Bent to score two or more goals and an enhanced price of 5/1. Ashley Young is the second top goalscorer for Villa and he is 7/1 to open the scoring.

The sides met earlier in the season at St James' Park and it was the homeside who came away with a comprehensive 6-0 victory. Somewhat revenge for the relegation defeat handed to them in 2009.

You can back both sides to score at an odds price of 4/5, with both teams going for a win defences will need to be tight.

Over 3.5 goals in this encounter is priced at 9/4 as these sides are capable of serving up a goal fest.  Ashley Young has won five penalties so far this season, more than any other player in the league and at 11/4 you can back a penalty to be awarded to either side and at 10/3 you can back a penalty to be awarded and scored.

Gerard Houllier will come under increasing pressure should his side fail to record a victory here, Villa minus a goal is 2/1, while Newcastle also minus a goal is 9/1.

With the price that it is and the position that they are in I would fancy Newcastle to take the win in this match and complete their second league double of the season, the other being against West Ham.
