El Clasico is one of the most historic, prestigious, exciting and anticipated matches in football.
La Liga champions elect Barcelona are currently twelve points clear at the top of the table, having won 22 of 25 matches, scoring 82 goals and have a goal difference of + 68.
Lionel Messi (@5/2 to open the scoring & @2/5 to score at any time in the 90 minutes)has scored an incredible 38 times in La Liga this season. To put this in perspective, he has scored more goals than sixteen of the twenty teams contesting the competition.
A superstar by all accounts and supported by a host of players that reads like a who's who; Chilean International Alexis Sanchez (First Scorer @6/1 & Anytime in 90 mins @7/4), Spain's national team first choice striker David Villa (@6/1 & @7/4), Spanish International Pedro (@6/1 & @7/4), ex Arsenal talisman Cesc Fabregas (@13/2 & @15/8) and then there are the famous midfield dynamic duo of Iniesta and Xavi.
Barca's attacking midfield and forward possibilities are endless and whenever and whoever they play, you expect goal mouth action of the highest quality and the ‘To Score' bet markets have to be considered.
If they have their scoring boots on, it will be difficult for any opponents to endure forty five minutes without conceding (Barca to be leading at half time @11/10 & Barca to score first and that goal to be scored up to and including the 30th minute @5/4) and while the Nou Camp is not the tightest fortress, penetrating the Valdes netting is no easy task.
However, it is not impossible and if there is a team that could give the Barca defence some nightmares, then Real could be the ones ruining Barcelona's dreams. (Both teams to score @4/11, Barcelona to score in both halves is @21/20 and @11/4 for Real Madrid to achieve the same feat, while the over/under scoring markets look enticing)
Real have their own superstar in Cristiano Ronaldo(24 La Liga scores and First Scorer odds @9/2 & Anytime in 90 mins @8/13).
Messi and Ronaldo are considered the two finest players on the planet and @23/20 on either player to get their name first on the score sheet looks great value.
Real are a distant third to Barca in La Liga. However this is more due to a less than satisfactory start to their campaign and they are top of the form lists, with five wins from their last six matches and while Ronaldo is the stand out player and match winner, he is assisted by French International Karim Benzema (@15/2 & @9/4) and Argentinian Higuain (@9/1 & @10/3), who has nine league goals to his name. In the above mentioned six games, Real have scored seventeen times and conceded a measly three.
It is impossible not to be impressed by these outstanding line ups, though incredibly and despite heading the tournament betting, neither team managed to win thier Champions League Last 16 1st leg ties. Barca lost by two goals to an inspired AC Milan and Real drew with Manchester United. Both teams face difficult second legs and a guaranteed place in the Copa Del Rey final would ease any nerves.
The first leg finished in a rather controversial 1-1 draw. The match itself was slightly low key and over shadowed by certain elements of crowd trouble and every football supporter will be hoping that the only talking points are between the two goals.
With pressure on both teams, expect some tough challenges. Penalty to be awarded and scored @21/10 and Penalty to be awarded and missed @8/1 are both possibilities is what is expected to be an exciting and frantic match.
Then there is extra time and penalties, although this will only apply if we have a second 1-1 draw. Fabregas giving Barca a 50th minute lead, before Varane levels with nine minutes remaining.
The two giants of European football have met over 220 times and the record is extremely even throughout.
So many possibilities. In a match to savour, El Clasico is sure to entertain us with all its regular thrills and spills, yet it is hard to get away from the advantage that Barca will enjoy at the Nou Camp.
Both teams managed to come from behind and scrape weekend victories and all the stats and facts add up to make this an extremely compelling match.
Although I expect Real to score, I can't quite see past Messi and company having the first and last say in a tie not to be missed. Barcelona through to the Copa Del Rey final to meet either Sevilla or Atletico Madrid?
Double Result - Barcelona/Barcelona @29/20
Messi or Ronaldo to score the game's first goal @23/20
Worth a Speculation:
Barcelona to win a thriller 4-2 @25/1
