Over for Rovers at White Van der Vaart Lane
Tottenham v Blackburn
English Premier League
16:00 - live on Sky Sport 1
Match betting: Tottenham 2/5 Draw 7/2 Blackburn 7/1
An inspired Wigan performance produced a 4-0 scoreline against the Magpies and will have given Spurs the encouragement they needed the night before their encounter with Blackburn Rovers. Harry Redknapp's side has been in dire form following Fabio Capello's departure from the England setup having won only two of their 10 matches. With only Wolves having picked up fewer points than Tottenham (six points) over the last nine league games it's a now or never situation if they are going to secure that all important Champions League spot.
When England came calling Tottenham fans were very protective over their manager however things have changed since their recent slide. Gareth Bale has made it public that failure to make the Champions League may force him to look elsewhere in the summer, and the likes of Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor would be likely to turn their back on consecutive seasons of Europa League football.
On the bright side Tottenham have a relatively 'easy' run-in and begin with a home tie against Steve Kean's struggling Rovers side. Despite victory over Norwich last weekend it was their first victory in six and their record versus Spurs is poor at best. Spurs have won their last five meetings in the league with Blackburn and are going for their third double in a row over Rovers. Now three points from safety Steve Kean's team are 1/10 to be relegated and the 7/1 at White Hart Lane could arguable be even bigger.
Rovers have the poorest away record in the Premier League. They have conceded 41 goals on the road this term, whilst Tottenham have scored in all of their 17 home games this season. Although Chelsea's result against QPR in the early kick-off will have some bearing on Tottenham's approach to the game, goals could well be on the cards.
For the Match Winner we've enhanced the price from 5/1 to 7/1 for Dutch ace Van der Vaart to score two or more. Earlier in the season he bagged a brace at Ewood Park and is due a performance in front of his home support.
If Blackburn are to have any joy on Sunday then they must look to their Nigerian striker Yakubu. Their top scorer has bagged an impressive 17 goals this term and is a 15/2 shot about first scorer and 9/4 about anytime.
Steve Kean has the luxury of being able to pick from a fully fit squad however despite this Rovers look up against it at White Hart Lane. A loss here could leave Blackburn in the grasp of Championship football however with so much at stake Tottenham -1 goal at 4/5 looks good value as well as the 4/5 about Spurs to score both halves.
