Palace Best Backed To Win £100m Match
Palace Best Backed To Win £100m Match But Watford Trigger Huge Payout!
Ahead of the playoff final on Monday, William Hill have seen plenty of support for Crystal Palace. Ian Holloway's side are slight outsiders for the match at 21/10 (the same price as the draw) while Watford are 7/5.
The suport for Palace is in direct contrast to the amount of money that has been wagered on Watford throughout the course of the season. Should the Hornets lift the playoff trophy, William Hill will have a large five figure payout on the Championship promotion market alone.
"Having been there or thereabouts at the top of the table for nearly the whole season, Watford have been incredibly well backed in the promotion market all season," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "Palace on the other hand have had a couple of small blips since Dougie Freedman left and so the payout on them would be much less."
The biggest bets that William Hill have seen on the two sides is a £200 wager on Palace at 10/1 from October, while Watford have attracted a £2,500 punt staked at 10/11 in March.
"The fact that the biggest bet on Watford to gain promotion is more than ten times larger than the biggest bet on Palace, just goes to show how our punters have viewed their seasons, but the playoff is a lottery and Palace are being very well backed to cause an upset," said Crilly.
Watford are 8/11 to win promotion, while Crystal Palace are 11/10.
