Sunderland v Tottenham - Betting Preview

On terms of recent form these two should be top of the league.  Sunderland's (13/5) last few results including the Boxing Day triumph over Manchester City have risen more than a few eyebrows over the past couple of weeks and they go into Tottenham (23/20) clash with a renewed sense of confidence.

Black Cats manager Martin O'Neil is rumoured to have offered his resignation to the Sunderland board last month but since then has seen his side pick up 3 wins from their last 4 Premier League matches.  Whereas since their North London derby defeat to Arsenal, Tottenham (23/20) have lost just once in their previous 9 matches.

Steven Fletcher has scored in his last 2 Premier League appearences against Tottenham at White Hart Lane and should lead the line for Sunderland.  The club top scorer will be looking to add to his goal tally of 8 goals this season and we go (11/2 first/last goal, 6/4 anytime).  We have also enhanced his price to score in a Sunderland win to from 16/5 to 5/1Connor Wickham has been central to The Black Cats recent revival and we offer (13/2 first/last 15/8 anytime) to get on the score sheet again.  The winning goal that shocked City on Wednesday was scored by their old boy Adam Johnson and he is (10/1 First/last, 7/2 anytime) to repeat the feat.  Johnson said "The win at Southampton lifted us. Wednesday showed the confidence is coming back."

Craig Gardener has picked up 7 yellow cards this season so far, 4 more than the rest of his team mates so 6/4 for Sunderland to pick up the most bookings could be a wise bet.

The victory over City was the first back to back wins for Sunderland since last March and should they beat Tottenham they will put further distance between themselves and the relegation places.

The Lillywhites of Tottenham Hotspur are currently sitting pretty in 4th position of the Premier League on goal difference - with Everton and West Brom also on 33 points - and can leapfrog their London rivals Chelsea into 3rd spot with a victory over Sunderland.

The victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday, ably assisted by a Gareth Bale hat-trick, was their 3rd clean sheet in a row.  Should they go on to keep a forth, they will be the first Premier League team to do so this season.  We are 8/5 for them to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland.

Gareth Bale has equalled his best-ever goals total in a Premier League season (nine; set in 2011-12) in only 16 appearances.  His hat-trick was his first for Tottenham in the Premier League and for him to manage it again we will give you 50/1.  He is (7/1 to score the first/last, 2/1 anytime).  We have also enhanced his price to score in a Tottenham win from 16/5 to a very tempting 5/1.  Jermain Defoe has scored 10 and assisted two goals in 18 starts this season and we offer him at (5/1first/last,5/4 anytime).

Tottenham are the only Premier League side to have scored in every away match so far this season, making Tottenham to score both halves (9/4) an interesting wager.

Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham have suffered only 2 defeats in their last 19 Premier League games in the month of December (W11 D6 L2) and only Man Utd (16) have taken more points over the past six games than Spurs (13).

The head to head stats are pretty similar over the years between the two sides with Tottenham having won just one of their last seven Premier League visits to the Stadium of Light (W1 D3 L3) and The Black Cats have won just one of the last seven Premier League games against Spurs (W1 D3 L3).
