Twitter War: Who Is Bigger, Manchester United Or Ronaldo?
Manchester United are up there as one of the biggest clubs in the world - but are they the biggest? Their Twitter following could well provide the answer.
Having launched their Twitter account on Wednesday morning they had amassed 180,000 followers by midday and they look to have firmly set their sights on overtaking the current Twitter football Champions, @FCBarcelona. William Hill offer 4/1 that @ManUtd have more followers by the start of the Premier League season.
"Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the biggest sides in World football and after doing battle on the pitch so many times, they now look set to go head to head online," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
Should they do that, they may then turn their sights onto bigger and better things. Justin Bieber is the most followed person on Twitter and Wiliam Hill offer 12/1 that Manchester United overtake him by Christmas. Their former (and possibly future player) Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed footballer on Twitter and the odds are 2/1 that @ManUtd have more followers than he does on Christmas Day.
"Maybe if Ronaldo moves in the summer, @ManUtd could pick up a few Twitter tips to help them climb the rankings," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
Will @ManUtd have more followers on Christmas Day than the following...
@justinbieber (41.6m) - 12/1
@katyperry (39.0m) - 12/1
@ladygaga (39.0m) - 12/1
@BarackObama (33.8m) - 10/1
@rihanna (30.4m) - 10/1
@Cristiano (19.6m) - 2/1
Will Manchester United have more Twitter followers than @FCBarcelona by 17th August 2013: 4/1 yes; 1/7 no.
