United to be Shot down at The Rec?

Aldershot v Manchester United - Tuesday 19:45 live on Sky Sports 2

The Red Devils head to the Recreation Ground where the 2 sides will meet for just the second time in their history. The only previous meeting was back in 1970 where Man Utd ran out 3-1 winners in this competition.

The Shots (14/1) have struggled of late in League 2 but got a much needed boost on Saturday as they got a big 5-2 win away at Dagenham to end their run of 5 straight defeats and they can now turn their full attention to arguably the biggest game in their history.

Aldershot have so far recorded Carling Cup victories over West Ham, Carlisle and Rochdale to reach this fourth round stage and are the only team from outside of the top 2 divisions still remaining in Carling Cup action. They have been average at best in League 2 action though especially at home where they have a record of played 6, won 1, drawn 1 and lost 4. The hosts have only managed to find the net on 3 occasions in total during those 6 home games.

The good news for the Shots is that they can welcome back striker Danny Hylton back in to the fold following his late substitute appearance against the Daggers on Saturday. Hylton (14/1 first, 5/1 anytime) has bagged 5 goals so far this season and can cause the Man United defence problems along with on-loan Adam Smith who is 25/1 first and 8/1 anytime.

The Shots will have to hope that they can throw the form book out of the window and use the energy from the army town's sell out home crowd at the Recreation Ground in order to level the playing field slightly with a quick start and an early goal.

The Red Devils (1/4, draw 4/1) will be in need of a pick-up and can't afford the embarrassment of another defeat after Saturday's humbling against their noisy neighbours. United have never lost to a side from the fourth tier of football, so history is on their side with this one,  but the last time that Man United exited the Cup at this stage was in 2006, a shock exit at Roots Hall against Southend.

There will be a completely different make up to the side than the one that lost on Saturday as Sir Alex continues to rotate his squad. The likes of Michael Owen (3/1 First, 8/11 Anytime), Dimitar Berbatov (10/3 First, 4/5 Anytime) and Luis Valencia (9/1 First, 10/3 Anytime) should provide the experience along with some of the young stars. The changes can't be taken lightly though as they we're able to pick-up a 3-0 victory at Elland Road in round 3 and should be more than a match for the League 2 side..

Michael Owen is also the subject of our special Match Winner offer for this game. He bagged 2 well taken goals in the previous round and we have enhanced the price of him to repeat that feat. Owen to score 2 or more goals was 3/1 but is now a huge 5/1!

There should be goals in store for this one with Manchester United running out eventual winners despite a terrific fight from the Shots. It wouldn't surprise me to see United fall behind to an early goal before running out comfortable winners as class tells in the end.

Top Bets:

Man Utd -1 @ 4/7

Both to Score @ 21/20

Worth a Punt:
