Villa and Liverpool Promises Goals – Betting Preview

As Liverpool prepare to take on Aston Villa, they will be well aware of how their opponents have fared against tough opposition in the past week, and the Reds would be naive to think that this presents an easy opportunity to take all three points.

Of course, Liverpool know fine well how dangerous Villa can be, having tasted defeat at their hands last season at Anfield. Yet the reverse fixture yielded success for Brendan Rodgers, and he will be out to force a similar result to that of their 2-1 victory in March.

Since then, the Villa squad has improved, in quality, numbers and experience, and have shown in their two games so far that they are more cohesive unit. Despite his summer misgivings, Christian Benteke has already netted a trio of goals this season, and will certainly look to continue his run as Villa make their first appearance at home this season. The Belgian provides small value at 6/4 to score anytime, but we like the look at 7/1 to grab a couple.

Liverpool's victory last week was hard-fought, and despite nearly losing a pair of points at the end, John Walters contrived to hit the meekest of penalties to allow Simon Mignolet to take the plaudits on his home debut. It is rare, but if you fancy him to repeat his heroics, we offer 12/1 for a penalty to be missed.

Up front, Daniel Sturridge looks to have picked up the form he found at the tail end of last season, and his crisp finish last week topped a strong performance. Assisted by exciting teammate Phillipe Coutinho, the Reds may have a fiery pairing, and in a special 'Anytime Scorers Double' market, we offer 13/2 on them both grabbing a goal.

Villa will count themselves unlucky to have left London with only three points, but having topped Arsenal last week, they should remain in buoyant mood, and are certainly worth a look at 13/5. Yet, as the title suggests, this clash screams goals, and whilst over 2.5 has little value at 13/20, it is over 3.5 at 7/4 that looks like the bet of the day, and my Top Tip!

Match Betting: Aston Villa 13/5; Draw 13/5; Liverpool 19/20

Headline Offers: Christian Benteke to score and Aston Villa to win 5/1; Daniel Sturridge to score and Liverpool to win 5/2

Top Tip: Over 3.5 goals 7/4

Worth a Look: Aston Villa to win 13/5; Aston Villa 3-2 40/1
