World Cup: Who Is The Most Popular Team? Costa Rica Second Biggest Loser For Bookies!

England have attracted almost 15% of all bets staked on this year's World Cup according to bookmakers William Hill who also report that should the Three Lions lift the trophy, then they would lose nearly £2m.

"England are the longest price that they have ever been to win the World Cup but that price seems to be in direct opposition with the optimism of our punters," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Brazil are the favourites to win the tournament at 3/1 and are third best backed side with just over 10.5% of all bets staked. It would appear that the football hipsters have been out in force as well with Belgium the second best backed side of the whole tournament with 10.6% of all bets.

"Belgium are in vogue at the moment and are attracting plenty of interest from the betting public, although we see no reason to be afraid of them and have in fact pushed their price out of winning the World Cup from 14/1 to 20/1 in the last week or so.

In terms of which countries represent the biggest losers for William Hill, sandwiched between England and their seven figure liability and hosts Brazil, comes England's group rivals, Costa Rica.

"Costa Rica have attracted just 0.58% of all World Cup bets although given that they are such a huge price at 2500/1, it was never going to take a substantial amount of money to create such a liability," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "It may just be that the majority of the bets have come from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well."

Sergio Aguero is the best backed player to top score at the World Cup closely followed by Neymar and Lionel Messi.

England's WC Chances: No Drastic Measures Taken From Bookmakers Despite Second Consecutive Draw

Despite a second consecutive draw in their pre World Cup friendlies, William Hill have seen nothing to change their price and they remain 25/1 to win the tournament.

"It could be argued that England have deserved to win both of their matches against Ecuador and the goals should flow soon," said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. "The bonus is that they have avoided any real injuries, Oxlade-Chamberlain aside and Roy will have his starting XI for Manaus finalised."

Brazil are the 3/1 favourites to win the World Cup with Argentina 4/1.

After missing a couple of sitters, Daniel Sturridge is 40/1 to score the most goals in this year's World Cup although he is a long way behind tournament favourite, Lionel Messi at 8/1.
