Punters Struggling To Make Their Minds Up For USPGA
Rory McIlroy aside, William Hill punters are struggling to pick a clear favourite, with almost equal amounts covering the top ten runners in the betting. McIlroy is the 10/1 favourite and has been the subject of a number of five figure bets. Jason Day has also proved relatively popular at 22/1 and results in a sizeable five figure loss should he win in Atlanta come Sunday. Elsewhere, the dynamic duo of Donald and Westwood have proved relatively friendless in the betting, although one punter in London did back the pair to the tune of £1000 each, both at 14/1.
"Our punters clearly fancy Rory for this one," said Hill's spokesman Joe Crilly. "The weather should be on his side and if it is, he will be very difficult to beat. We are in the position of cheering on almost every other golfer in the top fifty, just as long as McIlroy does not win."
Darren Clarke's dazzling performance at Sandwich has done little to convince punters that he is worth backing with only £984 being staked on him to win.
