The Solheim Cup
The female version of the Ryder Cup gets underway and the betting would suggest USA have this all but wrapped up at odds of 1/4 with Europe available at 7/2.
The Americans have won the last two renewals of this prestigious event on the LPGA Tour and while Europe have managed to win three Solheim Cups since its inauguration in 1990, they have all come on European soil.
The tournament is taking place at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois and is famed for its fourth hole nicknamed 'The Devil's Elbow' which will surely have many a golfer in trouble this week.
Europe certainly have the right captain in place with Alison Nicholas leading the ladies across the pond and she has been involved in all of Europe's wins in some capacity while the same can be said for Laura Davies as she has played in every Solheim Cup since the tournament began.
The US captain is Beth Daniel who is one of the most respected members of the LPGA Tour and it is no surprise she gets her shot at leading them to glory.
It is hard to see past a home victory as the strength in depth of the US team is frightening with Juli Inkster providing the experience and Michelle Wie easily one of the strongest rookies to ever play in a Solheim Cup.
For a top US points scorer, Paula Creamer and Cristie Kerr are unsurprisingly leading the market at odds of 4/1 and 9/2 respectively but Morgan Pressel at 10/1 performed extremely well last time when she was a rookie finishing third in points behind the two market leaders and her accuracy off the tee will be an asset on this tricky course and she gets the vote at a nice price.
Europe will have been boosted by Catriona Matthew's British Open win which will have her brimming with confidence and sure to play most of the matches looks the bet at 13/2 to top score for Europe, ahead of Major winner Anna Nordqvist at 8/1 and Suzann Pettersen at 7/2 who is one player who the American's really will fear and respect.
As this tournament gains in stature more and more people become interested and if Europe cause a major upset there could be a new group of heroines as opposed to the Ryder Cup's fallen heroes that everyone is talking about.
Morgan Pressel top US point scorer - 10/1
Catriona Matthew top European point scorer - 13/2
