Greyhounds galore with the Betfred Select Stakes

The Betfred Select Stakes sees two of this season's superstars take each other on the shape of joint 11/4 favourites, Fear Zafonic and Bandicoot Tipoki.

One of the most prestigious races of the year, the Betfred Select Stakes sees six of the best dogs being selected by the Greyhound Writers Association to run against each other in a one off invitational race over four bends.

Trainer Charlie Lister is lucky enough to field the first two in the betting and Lister has publicly expressed his surprise that Fear Zafonic was clear favourite as he was drawn in Trap 2 as opposed to his favoured Trap 1 which saw his odds drift to 11/4 and in turn share favouritism with kennelmate Bandicoot Tipoki who has the inside draw.

Lister also has the third dog in the betting, Farloe Reason who at 3/1 does love it around Nottingham and is certainly no forlorn hope coming out of Trap 4 and looks the most likely to capitalise should the 1 and 2 dogs hamper each other at all.

Windy Millar coming out of Trap 5 looks the best of the rest at 4/1 and a recent win at Nottingham gives him a shout, although he has actually been beaten recently by the 6 dog, Cabra Boss who is available at 7/1, while 20/1 rank outsider Crown Rover completes the line up coming from Trap 3.

The other highlight of the night is the 9.25 Betfred Select Stayers Stakes which was introduced in 2006 and like the Select Stake features six selected dogs except in the Stayers they tackle six bends.

Everyone is talking about the next leg of the ongoing battle between Bubbly Eagle and Midway Skipper who have met five times with the former holding a 3-2 advantage, although Midway Skipper beat her rival in the William Hill TV Trophy final at Sunderland.

For this duel Bubbly Eagle is 3/1 with Midway Skipper the 4/5 favourite as the general feeling is she can get first run but look out for Carbarns Tom who absolutely loves Nottingham and at a big looking 7/1 could make it a memorable night for Charlie Lister.

You can see these two races along with every other races starting with the 7.45 tonight live on Sky Sports 3, and don't forget the William Hill promise, that we are Best Odds Guaranteed on every race.
